Government Services What the hell is going on with Nepal’s government IT spending?

Post image
45 Upvotes

I’ve been seeing posts where even foreigners are openly laughing at Nepal’s government websites. Some people are literally joking that our tax and aid money must be getting spent on Claude tokens instead of actual IT development on X.

And then you look at these:

https://pmdevcore.gov.np/

https://nepal.gov.np/

this is seriously embarrassing, and it raises a serious question: how much money is actually being allocated to build and maintain these government systems, and where is that money going? there is simply no way websites representing an entire country should look and function like this in 2026, especially if significant public money is being spent on IT contracts, developers, maintenance, and digital transformation.

just a geniune question if anyone knows, Who built these websites? How much were they paid? What were the deliverables? Who approved the work? Was there competitive bidding? Who is responsible for maintaining them?

Because if taxpayers are paying serious money for results like this, then this deserves far more scrutiny than a few memes.

Hello daju bhai didi bahini of technepal.

So, I have been leading this open source launch for the product we have been working on. After months of preparation, we finally went open source today.

If you have been meaning to get your hands dirty with Kubernetes, come give a shot to contributing to the repo. We have a couple issues labeled good first issue and will have more in coming days.

Also, we have a very modest target of 100 stars in the first month and its only been 8 hours and we have 40 star although 1/4th of them have been my F&F lol, i have been shameless.

Docs: https://agentbarn.dev/guides
Repo: https://github.com/aai-labs/agent-barn (Star it, fork it, contribute or simply ignore, whatever you want to do.
Why we decided to open source it: https://agentbarn.dev/manifesto

oh yeah, one line description of the project (really important stuff): Agent Barn is an agentic orchestration and governance platform which makes the unglamourous and unobvious(is that a word?) parts of agents, well to put it simply visible. Basically, you give it instructions in Slack/Teams/Discord/Telegram and it does things in JIRA, Confluence, Gmail, Google Drive, Github, Bitbucket, etc. The agents are run on inference through OpenRouter so you can definitelty use it with free models there within the free limits restrictions.

Anyways good night :) Wish you a "starry" night!

I’m currently studying Cyber Security and thinking about building my career in Nepal.

For people working in the field of Cyber Security in Nepal, what is the job market like for freshers? What salary can a beginner realistically expect, and how does it grow after a few years?

Discussion AI Roadmap

I’m pretty focused on AI nowadays. I got a part-time job as an AI Instructor, where I teach students in the USA remotely from Nepal. I’m pretty amazed at myself, given that I was considered unskilled and wasn’t given many opportunities by companies around Nepal.

I really want to work as an AI Engineer too. I’ve been cold messaging Engineering Managers and DMing them my progress posts, showcasing all the AI projects I’ve been working on. I also completed a 6-month AI internship at an international company.

Do you think my unique experience and consistency with projects could help me land an AI job in Nepal?

Discussion ConnectIPS now needs phone call permission to use the app

Basically title. I have always reject the unnecessary permissions in the app. This time connectips needs permission for make and manage phone calls. I just can't reject the permission and not use features related to that permission. The whole app is useless if the permission is not given. Nice way to evolve backwards.

Tech Repair Looking for MacBook repair recommendations in kathmandu

Hi everyone,
My M1 Pro MacBook recently died out of nowhere. I took it to a local repair shop in Jhapa, where they diagnosed a short circuit on the power board, but unfortunately, they weren’t able to fix it.
I’m now traveling to Kathmandu to get it repaired. Could anyone recommend good and trustworthy MacBook repair shops in Kathmandu and share your experiences with them?
If anyone has had a similar issue with an M1/M2 MacBook, especially a power/logic board short-circuit, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience and where you got it repaired.
My biggest concern is finding a shop that is honest and transparent. There seem to be quite a few repair shops around, but I’m worried about places that might overcharge, replace unnecessary components, or take advantage of customers who aren’t familiar with board-level repairs.
Any recommendations or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion Is this what internships are actually like or…? 😭

Upvotes

it has been more than a week of our internship and we still haven’t been given any actual work 💀 we were just given an PDF and told to basically follow that.

no one has checked on us, asked us anything, given us task . lol we don’t even know who our actual supervisorrr is😭

so after we finish whatever’s in the PDF, we just sit there, scroll, watch dramas, pretend to be busy etc💀

like are we missing something?? are we supposed to ask for work ourselves ?? so confused rn

Discussion Remote workers/contractors who are making 2k USD or more per month Spoiler

  1. Do you renew your contract every year? Is that needed?

  2. I heard that above 30 lakhs per year(which is roughly 1700 usd per month), the 5% tax rule doesn't hold too well? what is your tax process?

I personally let the bank deduct 5% and file it for me(although I might have to confirm myself). And I've been working on a contract for 1 year and wanna know if renewing is mandatory. I send them invoice every month and everything is super transparent and documented anyway.

Discussion YouTube Premium in Nepal

Is anyone using YouTube Premium in Nepal? I'm tired of buying from third-party sellers and getting scammed all the time. If there's anyone who is using a YT Premium family plan, I'd love to pay and join. Or, if anyone's interested in sharing the family plan (includes 5 members), I am ready to be the genuine host, and everything will be transparent(I'll make a WhatsApp group) without interruptions.
Family plan cost breakdown: $8.99/month = 1355.49 NRS/month. It looks expensive for an individual, but if we share the plan, 1355 divided by 3-4 people per month, it'll roughly cost around 350-400 per month. I am not a seller, and there will be no extra charges.

For anyone trying to crack interview in any sort of field (specially tech) apart from technical skills - you have to prepare yourself in such a way that the interviewees shall allow / invite you in their day to day work related communication. If you succeed to reach that part of conversation at last then consider you're getting the job offer.
