I was walking by Loch Shianta in pouring rain around 16.50 today, and I heard a group singing a very ethereal song with drums. I looked around and couldn't see anyone. My best bet was that they were singing in the forest right behind the lake, but I couldn't see anyone. I was spooked and wet, so I just hiked up and left. But now I am curious: was there a group singing, or did I hear faeries?

I also have a video where you can hear the singing, and I showed it to my partner, so I am not full-on going crazy just yet. I am hesitant about sharing it here as I don't want to get on the wrong side of the faeries if that's a thing.

Ps. I am not normally someone who goes about their days believing in faeries, so I am trying to make sense of what I have witnessed.

Hello, I will be visiting Skye this November. I have reservations in Uig and would like to catch the Armadale Ferry the next morning at 9AM. Never having driven on Skye, can anyone give me an idea of how long I should allow to get to the ferry on time? Thanks in advance

We're coming to the Isle of Skye by bus tonight. We're planning on shopping for groceries in Broadford and need a taxi to get us from there to our accomodation near Sconser Port between 8 and 9 PM. We have two backpacks and two large suitcases. What company/companies would you recommend?

Hi, my family and I are traveling to the Isle of Skye in November. My wife likes to collect paints of the places we visit from local artists. I already have a list of local galleries, but I was wondering if there were any places around the isle where we might find artists painting/selling their products? As she traditionally likes to buy from the artists directly in person.

We’re on a road trip through Skye and the internet coverage throughout it was decent- with a huge exception of Portree.
Looks like I have 4G there, but it just doesn’t connect to the internet…

I know that this happens because there are a lot of people and networks isn’t coping with it - but still- why?
Why not installing more retranslators and extend the network, at least in the city? You know that a lot of people come here - and the network will be jammed. So just expand the network there!
Tourists bring money, so Portree can definitely afford it.
How do locals live in these conditions though?

We’re probably too late for the established tours and most of them don’t advertise a geology slant anyway. Any locals with a bit of general knowledge about the island’s geology willing to haul us (2) around for half a day on the 14th?

How important is it to have reservations on Skye around the middle of September, granted on a weekend, but I am not a picky eater and will be a solo traveler?!? Any and all help much appreciated! One night will be rather late back from a group tour, but my first evening I was planning on walking about!!

Is it a legitimate accommodation?

I see that it's booked almost all the time, but there are very few traveler reviews compared to other accommodations listings (60, all positive).

I'd like to make sure it's not a scam before possibly booking it.

My partner and I are planning to camp on Skye towards the end of September. From past experience, we’re prepared for some rain, wind and chilly nights. However the weather where we live (south west England) has been unlike anything we’ve seen before - constant heatwaves and currently in a drought!
Have Skye locals noticed any significant shifts in the weather this year? Or is it what you’d expect?

Hi Reddit, I would appreciate any feedback on my Itinerary for 3 days in the highlands. I’m renting a car in Inverness and then driving to Skye for 2 nights, and then driving down to Glasgow. 

I’m not sure if I’m being too ambitious trying to pack everything in, if some of the hikes will take longer than I’m anticipating…

I’m assuming l the popular spots like the Quiraing and Old Man of Stor are equal busy on weekdays. I’m deciding how best to start my day on Skye whether to begin a the Quiraing, and eventually get to Dunvegan Castle before it closes or do the opposite and get to the Quiraing in the late afternoon. 

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for offline trail map apps? Ideally something free, or affordable. 

The weather has been weird but I will take the sun when I can get it! It was decent weather in the late afternoon, sun came out and broke up the clouds and rain it made for a beautiful sunset last night. Living here is nice when the weather cooperates! I was able to get the weed eater out yesterday and do the yard finally.

I’m travelling from London to Skye this August. I have provisional driving card without any driving lessons that's why won't have a car, and I'm planing to be in Portree for 5 to 7 days.

My Wishlist:
- Eilean Donan Castle
- Trotternish Loop (Storr, Lealt Falls, Kilt Rock, Quiraing, Duntulm Castle)
- Fairy Pools

My Questions:

1. London to Skye: Is it better to fly to Inverness and take the bus/train, or take the train via Fort William/Kyle of Lochalsh?
2. Transit Gaps: Stagecoach route 57C covers parts of the Trotternish Peninsula but places like the Fairy Pools seem tricky without a car. Are local day tours or taxis from Portree reliable in August?
3. Pacing: Is 5 days enough when relying on public transit, or should I extend to 7?
4. Additions: Are there other must-see spots accessible by bus?

I'm thinking of staying in portree, one thing i want to see is the fairy pools, but any other suggestions for hikes, activites and maybe even a spa day?

Hi everyone

Me and my friend are doing a 5-6 day hike in Skye, however we are not extremely experienced so we don’t want to overestimate our abilities. We’re aiming for around 10-16 km per day, just to feel confident we have enough time to complete it in, in case our bodies, our navigation skills or the weather is limiting us.

We are therefore planning on cutting the Skye Trail in half, either doing Duntulm → Sligachan or Broadford → Portree. However, I haven't seen anybody split it up in that many sections, and I’m worried about weather there’s enough water - especially on the ridge, which we were planning to complete over the course of three days. Anyone, who has done it lately, have some advice on weather it’s a bad idea? We really want to do the beautiful ridge, but maybe it’s better to to the southern part if we’re going to split it up that much?

Hello I'm travelling up through Highlands (not my first rodeo!) but first time to Skye. Anywhere between glencoe and skye to rent a car? I'm heading to Inverness to leave afterwards, so would need to drop off same place and travel to Inverness or drop off there. Thanks for your help!

My partner and I are visiting Skye at the end of our NC500 trip next month. We’re planning to stay for 2 nights (but have some wiggle room if we did want to extend for a night)

I’m not sure whether it’s best to base in one campsite across the two days or try a couple of different locations. We’ll be sleeping in the car and have a tent with us so we’ll need to deconstruct most of it anyway so that we can drive around.

The places on my radar at the moment are:

- Portree (think there’s one campsite about a mile from the village)
- Dunvegan (Kinloch Campsite)
- Sligachan Campsite
- Glenbrittle Campsite near Carbost

Very open to suggestions!! Really just looking for a nice location that’s convenient enough to visit plenty of different spots
