Dave Casper was a gritty, tough, and relentlessly physical Hall of Fame tight end who defined the Oakland Raiders during the hard-hitting 1970s NFL era.

John Spytek & assistant GM Brian Stark share who impressed them the most this preseason

Raider Nation share your thoughts on who impressed you this preseason & why.

>Mike Washington Jr. being a real deal RB. He has the size & the feel for the game. Can't wait for us to use the two back system & keep defenses guessing. This guys an explosive downhill runner with jets. 23 rushing attempts for 168 yards, averaged 7.3 yards per attempt. Feels great that we don't necessarily have to rush Jeanty back & have a more than capable backup. The Raiders had a round 2 grade on MWJ in the draft & we just got a steal in the 4th.

https://youtu.be/H0kWpzRNObA

>Treydan Stukes being able to line up in the box & center field while bringing the hammer. Solid wrap up tackler as well. Excited to see him grow & see how he's ultimately utilized on a per snap bases come the regular season. Isaiah Pola-Mao better watch out. I think its inevitable that Stukes eventually becomes the starter sooner rather than later, probably by mid-season. He'll be running with the first team defense in no time.

https://youtu.be/9kYFDiAZOiM

>Tyler Linderbaum's IQ is insane. Big time free agent signing for a reason. Though they played limited snaps, Tyler w/ our starting Oline gave us time in the pocket & provided us space to run. He'll be a key part of Kubiak's schematic attack & approach on offense. He checks off all the boxes with football intelligence & his mauler style of play. Seahawks with coach double K last year calling the plays were tied with the 3rd most rushing attempts in the NFL with 507 attempts & were also tied for the 10th most rushing yards 2,096 in the league. Get ready to pound the rock Jeanty & Washington because this guy Baum is going to clear lanes.

>Kirk Cousins' command & familiarity within Kubiak's system definitely can not go unnoticed. He was efficient when he played, made the right reads, & calls. The two times he started he helped march our offense down the field to put up points on the board. 110.2 passer rating, 13/17 passing (76.47%), 101 yards, & 1 touchdown.

>Fernando Mendoza's grit, toughness, & willingness to get better, stand tall, & learn from his mistakes. There was times when he took some really hard hits & responded the very next play without batting an eye. All the concerns about his arm strength should be completely dispelled. Wether we want to call it a cannon or a laser FM has it. He displays touch, accuracy, & velocity. Could somethings have been better, yes. We also can not ignore the WR drops. However, overall theres really a lot optimism to be excited about here with his potential. Let's give him the necessary time to really grasp the playbook, get his timing down with his receivers, & adjust to NFL's speed. One things forsure, he's definitely not gun-shy.

>Additional information on John Spytek naming Patrick Johnson the player that surprised him the most. The following article below talks about how Johnson was our highest graded player this preseason by pro football focus. I think we're all pretty excited & up to speed with the development of the youngster Tonka Hemingway. So if Spytek liked what he saw from the free agent Johnson in preseason, then it's no surprise that the PFF article below was published today 9/2/26. Veteran Patrick Johnson was signed on July 27, 2026 & made the 53 man roster.

Kirk Cousins will start at QB for the Las Vegas Raiders in their Week 1 matchup against the Miami Dolphins, head coach Klint Kubiak announced on Wednesday.

Cousins, 38, will start for his fourth franchise after staving off Fernando Mendoza, the draft’s No. 1 pick.

Discussion What are you most excited about in the week 1 matchup against the Dolphins.

I know its still early but with the game coming up in about 10 days, what are you most excited about in this matchup against the Dolphins. For me, I'm excited to see the improvements in the run game (hopefully Jeanty is healthy in week 1). Some players I'm looking forward to watching is Mike Washington Jr. and how Jack Bech does in his second year.

Inaugural Season through 1983:
238 WIns - 67 Loses - 12 Ties.

Read This Carefully:
In the 30-year period dating back to when Davis took over in 1963 up through 1992, the Raiders' winning record of .661 with 285 victories, 146 losses and 11 ties ranks as the best among all major sports teams. That's in every sport, not just the NFL.
Then it seemed to go wrong.

I realize that Super Bowl #3 was won there, but IMO, the Raiders were never THE RAIDERS!
after leaving Oakland that first time. Team and players feared playing at Oakland-Alameda,
They never got that Raiders Mystique back.

Since 1983 & our last SB Title, our Raiders are 253 - 391.
Since 1983, of 42 seasons, only 19 have been @ .500 Or above.
Franchise historical record = 512 wins - 494 Loses - 11 ties.

We have every reason to be pessimistic, but do not confuse that with
lack of hope for the future, and do not take sharp criticism for hate.
All four of these can exist at the same time and not cancel each other out.

News Q Myers: Ashton Jeanty “looks pretty good”

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

“He looks actually pretty good. There’s a reason why the Raiders didn’t put him on short term IR, because I think he’s gonna be available sooner rather than later.”

That’s Raiders reporter Q Myers giving an update on Ashton Jeanty that he caught by accident.

Q said he was filming the quarterbacks yesterday when he saw Jeanty and Dont’e Thornton in the background working on a side field.

Myers said he didn’t put the video out because he’s not allowed to show players who have injuries.

“Something tells me we won’t see Ashton Jeanty and Dont’e Thornton Jr. out there today. They’ll be out there doing their work with the trainers but after they send us back to the media room.”

OK, so I've been a Raider fan since before John Madden Football (EA Sports) had ambulances taking injured players off the field... LOL

What are you honest opinions on Fernando? Should we be worried, or do you think he'll convert to NFL speed?

And yes, I realize he's tough and had a good arm, and seems to process pretty fast... but...

He's not a dual threat, he struggles when moved from his launch point, and he's thrown quite a few picks.

Are we good in the sense of a franchise QB?
