Bunny Farm Update: Added the 1st interactive item (a key) and a space asteroid minigame!

Hi everyone! Back with another quick update on my passion project, Bunny Farm. I’m working much closer with the Pygame code now. I manually positioned an interactive golden circle in the kitchen. When the player walks into it, the game switches states into our very first minigame: an asteroid-dodging space game where you collect points! I customized 80% of the minigame logic and assets myself to make it work. I also added the game's first real item: a mysterious key that spawns in the living room. It can be collected and will have a major purpose in the lore later on. Also, thanks to a tip from the community, my live mouse coordinate tracker is working flawlessly in the top right corner!

First game advice

I started learning python about 4 days ago, and made a text based boss fight with various builds and weapons about 2 days ago. I started learning Pygame right after I finished that game and planned on making a game in that, but after looking it up, a lot said to do it in GDscript as it’s better for game development and beginner friendly like python. Should I switch to GDscript in Godot, or stick with Pygame? If you need any more details or anything lmk, thanks.

Flippin' Sketchy - fixed font spacing issues so its less nauseating to read, started on collectable and park object animations (info in body of post)

So the font was jumping back and forth cause when i made the two .tffs i didn't realise i gave one more padding than the other, i will eventually make a third for proper line boil animation but they take a while and im enjoying drawing animations .

For the animations I drew the "secret tape" as a cassette tape instead of a vhs like the THPS games do cause i figured i should try to be a bit more creative, I'll probably rename the goal to "hunt down the hidden cassette" or something haha.

The statue of liberty ill go back and neaten the overfill of colour on my pc when I do a sweep of all the animations before finishing the game. The park objects you can see underneath are the collision, i decided i wanted to be able to build around the animations, i just need to neaten them.

I'll probably spend the next week or five (depending on if i have the motivation haha) finishing this rooftop level so i can post a demo on itch so you guys can play and give feedback if you want.

The Fourth (and probably final) Iteration: Recode Test/ SEPD REMAKE

This is where things got really serious.

I took a completely different approach gameplay-wise for the remake, and things finally started to get polished and finished. New character build for better visuals, a height and jumping system, improved menu and a ton of other improvements/additions.

This video features both the polished movement system and Sonic.EXE's new visuals for his Attack ability.

This was also made in Arcade.

Update on Bunny Farm (Pygame): Working more actively on the code and fixing bugs myself!

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone! Thanks for the feedback on my previous post. I’m still using Gemini as an assistant for larger code structures, but I've started taking control of the project. I'm now actively fixing bugs, tweaking the logic, and manually positioning elements on the screen to get the exact look I want. I’ve just updated the overworld with a brand new ground texture, added more details to the floor, scaled up the tree sizes, and added a windmill near the plantation area.

Making a simple, silent 2D game in Pygame using AI for code

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m a beginner making my first game called Bunny Farm. It’s a hobby project heavily inspired by The Walten Files. Since I'm still learning, I'm using Gemini to help with the code matrix and AI/Canva for the map design. Because of my limitations, the game has no sound and the world feels empty, but it accidentally created a cool, creepy liminal vibe that fits the horror theme.

Exporting a game

Hi. I have just finished a pygame game. It ended up being a script that uses pygame and numpy and a couple of png's. I want my friends to try out the game but I have no idea how.

I think that just giving them the folder might be asking a little too much as that would require them to have them to install python and the libraries. I could also try to make it into an executable. However, I have friends in both Mac Os and Windows, so I'd have to create two versions and the Mac one seems really hard. Last I considered a web app. It could work for both operative systems, but again, I have no experience on web apps.

I'm lost. What should I do so my friends can play? Thank you very much for hearing my ramblings and please excuse my poor English.

Just published a full Python / Pygame IDE with lessons and examples on Android! My son couldn't find one, so I built it. It's made the way I want apps on my son's phone to be: no dark patterns, one refusable notification permission, no telemetry.

Hello everyone!

I guess this is technically self-promotion, but on a personal level I'm still pumped and wanted to share my project with you all, so I hope that's OK.

My son took a Python / Pygame course over the summer, and he immediately got sucked in and loved it. After a week he built an entire little rogue-lite game where you choose a class and delve deeper and deeper into rooms of a dungeon. Amazingly, there were a lot of parallels with a game I made back in high school on my TI-89, so I told him about it, and he immediately said "Oh, there must be pygame for phones!" But to our surprise, we couldn't find one that was what we were looking for.

So... I started building one. I made it for my son, and he's been my tester, and before too long it was looking and feeling good enough that he said "Are you going to put this on the store?" And I sat there and thought "...why not?"

Before I knew it, I was filing paperwork with my state to start an LLC, registering with the IRS, and even opening a bank account and... I guess I'm a business owner now? Wild turn of events over the last month. But I finally got my app to version 1.0 last week and pushed it to Google, who just approved it about an hour ago!

So without further ado...

PyPad: Python Pygame IDE

Features:

  • Full IDE suite
    • Start a new project and choose between a terminal project or a Pygame project that runs fullscreen with a game loop
    • Code completion
    • Add assets (images, sounds) from your phone
    • Project versions and restoration
  • Only 1 permission, and it's refusable: a notification to let you know your app/game process is still running, with uptime and a stop button
  • No internet permission at all, so no telemetry, no tracking, no nothing. Everything runs entirely on the phone.
  • Example projects, from Hello World up to a simple little mobile-style game
  • Learning courses (6 courses, 35 lessons), each staged with multiple lessons that guide you to the completion of a project
    • The first course starts at Hello World in the terminal and ends with a little fortune teller game you keep
    • In the last course you'll build a spaceflight simulation inspired by Kerbal Space Program, complete with real orbital mechanics

I set the price to $1.99 USD. No idea if that's the "right" price, but I wanted it to be a fair trade for the work while staying cheap enough that anyone curious can just grab it. That said, I do intend to work on a free, non-intrusive ad-supported version which might come out in a few weeks. So keep an eye out if you would like to wait for that option!

That's the whole pitch! My son has been my entire QA department this whole time, and a QA department of one only catches so much, so if you grab it and something feels off, tell me and I'll fix it. And if you (or your kid) build something with it, I would genuinely love to hear about it. Thanks for reading!

(Heads up: it's not available in the EU/UK just yet while I work through some regional requirements.)
