lmao, just the other day I downloaded gamenative on my phone to try a couple of games, never felt my phone so hot

I put on pixel per pixel lighting and played LotR return of the king. Gandalf lit up the whole stage. Made my s22 ultra cook the glue holding it together, and legit fell apart.
Worked at a Samsung store at the time luckily.
You can just chuck the phone in a glass of water and use the port for display out. Water cooled console.

Coincidentally I also own the s22 Ultra, the exynos variant though (europe and such). And no I dont feel confident running anything in that kind of temperature for more than 5 minutes.

u/lackofmoralfiber 1h ago
Yea I wouldn't the thing is just dying to cook itself to bits especially with niche and demanding applications.
The ultra is almost OK because the cooling is decent. If you have the standard or plus they really have heat issues. If you had an s22 in a case you got about 1 year out of the battery on account of the temps it ran at.

The water would evaporate, you would need a pump and a radiator to not have to periodically add more

Just install Vampire Survivors and you won't need the heating in your house.

I tried brotato (i know there is an android-native app, but just for the sake of testing gamenative) and Hollow Knight. I could feel the heat was not comfortable for my hand, let aside that that kind of temps are not safe for the battery. I now get why all these android handhelds have a fan that blasts air almost at 100%.

But memes aside, PC game emulation on smartphones is reaching truly powerful levels.

fr, you can run fallout 3 and nv comfortably at like 40fps now on the top of the line chips

genuine dumbass. 15w usage on an x86 game designed mainly for like a 1060 and an i7-4790 is insane

pcmr users overreacting to normal operating temps as usual

u/Spiritual-Society185 1h ago
Uh, your skin can burn at that temp. It will also quickly degrade your battery.

95C is not a normal operating temperature for the phone, you need to hold it and for most modern phones casing acts as a heat sink. I also happened to own 2 phones(nexus 5 and recently pixel 8) that had permanent damage from overheating even at actually normal phone operating temperatures

ARM will be the future of PC gaming

Maybe PC in general? From the little that I know ARM is just more efficient

apple m cpus are all arm and have days worth of battery and high performance

Yup, its not good for gaming but my M2max macbook pro is like alien technology compared to my PC. Sure my PC is more powerful, but not by loads in practice and its 10x as large, hot, loud and power hungry.

Phones don't have fans in them, at all.
They're entirely cooled passively.

I recall there exists some gaming phone that has a fan, but it's certainly a very rare feature to have.
edit: did a search and found 3 recent smartphones that have a fan: Oukitel WP600, Redmagic 11 Pro, OPPO K13 Turbo Pro

u/Putrid-Narwhal4812 55m ago
They're almost always gaming oriented phones with thicker dimensions.

For sure, but even the Redmagic is just 1mm thicker than a Galaxy S26, I doubt anyone would mind that little lol

Imma keep it real with you chief, I aint changing the thermal paste on my GPU. If she dies, she dies.

u/Mother-Translator318 44m ago
I’ll change my thermal paste if something is seriously wrong, like severe thermal throttling or crashing. If it’s just running hot but everything works fine, that’s its problem not mine lol

If your phone gets above 40 C its pretty bad. This should be for gaming laptops lol, those reach 90 C regularly

People with thermoelectric coolers can’t relate

You have to keep in mind that almost all phones are passively cooled through the screen.
Your CPU in the PC sure isn't passively cooled, neither is your GPU. So I'm willing to bet that if you kept the temperatures under control you'd have a great time gaming on a phone if the screen was big enough.
Its impressive that we went from these things barely run nice mobile games to it doesnt matter and most phones can run anything but top of the line can play pc games.

Why would I use my phone when I have a Ayn Odin 2 Portal with active cooling.

No don't fuck with the thermal paste. If you're still supported in driver updates it's most likely your GPU does not need touching. (With some exceptions, looking at you 40xx series)

u/SosseTurner Ryzen 9 5900X RTX2060S 64GB DDR4-3600 3h ago
If your GPU is thermal throttling even under light loads, it's time to repaste and get new thermal pads. For my RTX 2060S it was that time after 6 years if constant use, but temps dropped from 86°C to 73°C under load, and now without throttling, so it was necessary.

was playing slimerancher 2 when my cpu hit like 90° repasted never touched the game again after the 30 min temperature test 💯

Tbf the fact pc games can run on phones at all is so impressive you don't even care about the temps as much
