It's an AM5 build, so I plan on stretching it out through the 2030s as much as I can. Waiting to upgrade my 9800x3d to whatever the last AM5 chip is in the future makes this feel like it can run nearly forever lol.
I will most likely get the RTX 6080 for GTA6 on PC and move my 5070ti to another rig. I even think I could get another gpu generation in after that.
I have 64GB of DDR5, so I really think, for gaming, I'm set with a framework to expand with through the PS6 era. It would take something transformative for me to get a new mobo/cpu socket, and ram in this economy.
If we are gonna talk about cost I wouldn't even consider 50 series cards for comparison.
I just got a 6900xt and sure, the 5070ti is like 35% more powerful and has all the dlss and raytracing and stuff, but my 6900xt is $1000 less, which is like a 60% better performance per dollar ratio
I mean your 6900xt is ancient on feature side, sure, Doom 2016 will run at 1000 fps, but Cyberpunk with even slightest ray tracing will make your card run worse than 2070.
I was gonna wait to upgrade my 2080 until next gen, but the climate seemed like a bad idea, and boy was I right! Very happy with my 5070 Ti (at MSRP). 😎
I went from the 1080 to the 5080 and it was such an amazing experience. Being able to crank games up and using newer features is amazing. The pricing is pretty brutal though.
Have we considered how many "free" FPS we would get if developers just optimized their games? They are walking hand in hand with the hardware "bros" to make the industry money.

If its 11 more from a 15-20fps base its great, If its 11 more from a 120fps base its almost unnoticible.

You were born this century weren’t you? I wouldn’t call it a great experience but there’s plenty of games you can play just fine with 30 ish fps. Consoles also were 30 fps for a very long time.
As someone who developed motion sickness out of nowhere in my 20s 30fps be giving me migraines in anything fast paced, but hey it could be worse I could not be able to play games in the first place so I can deal with my debuff.
Genuinely tho it hurt now understanding what some people must be talking about when they say "this games un-playable at 30" after mocking them for years, God said SHUT TF UP to me and I've taken it personally lol.

I guess it comes down to every person but I've noticed lower frame rates on a 3D, "high fidelity" game is far more noticeable and jarring than low FPS would be on an isometric or 2d game.
I don't notice lower FPS as much on games like Factorio, rimworld or OpenTTD but I REALLY notice small drops on things like BeamNG, Dota, Battlefield, GTA etc.
Well, yes, but If you can get 26fps maybe you can go to 40ish with tweaks.
Or the 15fps were with 8K RT Ultra DLSS5 or something. A 40% uplift would be fantastic.
Is 11 frames a lot? It depends on how many you had before. If you already had 144 frames, not really. But if you only had 23 frames, then definitely lmao
That was literally me with a 4080S looking at the 5080 on release. Aside from the AI stuff, it's like 13% faster in general. Which is like one good OC.

Edit: Looking at the TDP of those cards - 320W vs 360W, might as well just be a brute forced performance uplift.
Since you brought up OCing, the 5080 has substantial overlocking headroom to widen the gap significantly from the 4080S closer to 25-30%, especially at 4k resolution. Whereas the 4080S is already toward top of its timings. In rasterization I would say it’s a respectable leap from a Super variant mid-cycle refresh. The area where it can be criticized more accurately is that it did not come with more vram.
But as others have said, no one should ever be looking at going from a Super to the very next release of the same tier card lol. That’s just silly.
The 40 series to 50 series was and is a brute force upgrade. They are manufactured on the same process.
There was a large uplift from the 30 to 40 series, though, which I have experienced personally. The performance improvement between my 3090ti and 5090 is very impressive.
Also, as an aside. Do not get into 4k gaming if you have not already. It is a trap.
Depends on the screen. 5k2k with a 5090 will struggle to hit 144fps without mfg but if you have a 3440x1440 screen, you'll hit it consistently in pretty much every game just using 2x fg.
My GPU died and I am taking advantage of my dusty Steam deck LCD to finish all my catalog in steam. It's a simple and happy gaming experience. Not changing PCs until the ai madness is over
But AI will insert 100% of those frames between every real frame , you just need to pay extra this feature because we only make it available on our latest hardware. LOL

And with the current state of hardware and my life, this is probably my last pc lol
EDIT: that sounds ominous, I mean I am nearly 40 with a wife and child. I do not have the time or money anymore to fuck about with Nvidia price hikes.
