I never even made it to 4096. This is insane

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago

Full disclosure: I only got to 16384 before I had to start cheesing with the undo button. That is, I’d have to spam undo until I got the spawn in a specific spot to avoid getting trapped - at this point margins are tight…

In my defense I don’t think it’d be possible to get to 32k without either being impossibly lucky or using the undo button heavily.

u/cbigle 1d ago

TIL there’s an undo button

u/ardotschgi 1d ago

Really depends on the game you've got. Many don't.

u/Ayk1593_2 1d ago

wdym theyre all 2048???? /s

17

u/Fire69 1d ago

Why is it called 2048 when it can go higher?

35

u/javsent 1d ago

67,108,864 just doesn't have the same ring to it

10

u/ish_squatcho 1d ago

British accent: "But this one goes to 4096.”

2

u/Ayk1593_2 1d ago

idiot inventors tought it couldnt go past 2048 what a loser am i right 😂

u/vamphorse 1d ago

Probably evolved?

1

u/halfgreek 1d ago

What?!?! Mine doesn’t have Undo

5

u/TimidDeer23 1d ago

Back when it was popular me and my boyfriend would just keep a copy of the current game in a different tab.

1

u/MattDaveys 1d ago

Back in my day…!

1

u/touni102 6h ago

Never heard of an undo button in this

-1

u/Jon__Snoww 1d ago

Yeah, it's the button that says 'undo'

27

u/meatpopsicle42 1d ago

At least you admit that the undo button is cheaty-face.

5

u/Dragonspaz11 1d ago

As someone else who discovered undo button cheese.

I don't think it is possible to hit 16384 without cheesing it or getting extremely lucky. I think the closest I got was a 8192, 4096, and 2048, then it usually falls apart after that.

8

u/rhino_moss 1d ago

It has been done by a computer program, so it’s not impossible. I think it would be nearly impossible for a human.

28

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago

Yeah, the problem itself isn’t usually too tricky, it’s just needing to stop and consider the implications each time you get near one of the tight spots.

Especially difficult when 95% of the time you are swiping on autopilot.

12

u/rhino_moss 1d ago

Agreed, a big part of the computer’s advantage is in consistently applying the algorithm, never getting tired, distracted, or complacent.

6

u/FroodLoops 1d ago

My high score was 340,508 with a 16,384 tile on the OG mobile version that didn’t have an undo button…. ;)

4

u/Damurph01 1d ago

Mathematically I would presume that the odds of naturally getting to 16k or even moreso 32k would be so low that it’s not realistically possible. Could be wrong but that would be my first guess.

Not impossible, but improbable.

5

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago

Maybe not improbable, but slow

The game I posted had around 15,000 moves. I’m making about a move per second (not sure how much inactivity stops the timer… but let’s go with a move a second).

Realistically to find the optimal move during periods of space shortage, you’re taking a lot longer for each turn. On average you’d probably need to double or triple the time taken per move. That takes a 5 hour game up to a 10-15 hour game.

5

u/robotsincognito 1d ago

My high is 32k and this post is how I learned that there’s an undo button. So it’s definitely realistically possible.

2

u/derpenschwaggerman 1d ago

Can confirm, currently at 65k and I had to undo a ton of times to get the right spawn configuration

2

u/dendofyy 1d ago

Undo or not, this is still satisfying.

2

u/DasFunke 1d ago

I got to 62508. It was not easy, but once you learned the pattern it did get easier.

2

u/robotsincognito 1d ago

I didn’t even know there was an undo button. My best is 32,224.

1

u/BluudLust 23h ago

Still an achievement even with the undo button

1

u/Louder-Silence 5h ago

My high score was 27152. What version of 2048 do you have because I don’t seem to have undo on mine.

0

u/xnuh 1d ago

I have an ongoing game with a 131k, a 65k and a 16k (about 3.25M score). It's entirely done by hand but with thousands of undos. To get the 131k you need to fill up the entire board and get 4s at the end because there isn't enough space with 2s. Then same for the next 65k, the 32 k after that etc. 262k is impossible.

12

u/rhasta_masta 1d ago

only swipe in 2 directions i.e. left and down.

45

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago

That’ll only get you so far. Eventually you need to use a 3rd.

Never swipe up tho.

8

u/Irishpersonage 1d ago

To anyone playing at home, this is expert advice complete with resume

1

u/Hungry_Presence_9658 12h ago

For me it would be "never swipe down". I like to have the biggest number in left upper corner.

2

u/Hephaestus_God 1d ago

Look at the moves lol. Nearly 15k is Wild

102

u/supamee 1d ago

Now double it

60

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago

Heh. I was wondering if I could. I think theoretically, yes, because I do have one space still available

But 16->32 took far longer than the rest combined because I kept having to go backwards, so even if it was possible it’d probably be 8+ hours of time.

6

u/Any_Ad_5232 1d ago

So you didn’t get the 32768 tile?

8

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago edited 1d ago

Heh. I think they’re talking about 32->64

Edit: what I mean about 1 space being left: eventually to get to 64k I am will end up in an identical position but there will be no empty spaces on the board. In theory that isn’t game over, so like I say, getting to 64k is probably theoretically possible.

But the margin for error gets twice as tight at that point. So it’d take much longer to avoid getting stuck.

10

u/ThomasTheDankPigeon 1d ago

The max using undos is 131k. Took me about 120k moves and about 35 hours.

4

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago

Fuck me. Nice effort.

1

u/Aikilyu 1d ago

I mean, you could get a double 4 on the end instead of a double 2, so theoretically 128k is possible. The amount of undos it would take would be mind blowing though.

2

u/m8tang 1d ago

I think it's the same app I used to play. I got it to 131k, I think it was the max. I strongly recommend to just stop now.

137

u/beticanmakeusayblack 1d ago

Had to stop playing this when I would try to sleep and was still playing it in my Eigengrau

39

u/accountantsareboring 1d ago

Take my poor man's award for the use of eigengrau 🏅

6

u/KingOfThePlayPlace 1d ago

The Tetris effect hits hard

34

u/Nepherenia 1d ago

This is beautiful.

23

u/AdjacentBirdman93 1d ago

Always preferred 3s

16

u/Klecktacular 1d ago

Threes did it first and better

3

u/doinkypoink 1d ago

The music was so good!

2

u/DystopianAdvocate 1d ago

There's a game called Big Black Dot which is the same concept but instead of numbers it's colored dots. That was my fav.

1

u/Danph85 1d ago

So did I until about a year ago I gave 2048 a go again and much prefer it now. Not sure what changed, but 3s feels so slow and clunky now.

19

u/GreatAndMightyKevins 1d ago

I have a vivid memory of playing that shit far to much way back when. When I mentally "joined" 2 classmates who were standing next to each other I was so fucking weirded out at my brain that I stopped playing it altogether and didn't touch it ever since.

3

u/AbilityCharacter7634 1d ago

Something similar happened to me once. I was playing way too much Rocket League back then.

I was driving my irl car down the road when I mentally tried to do a front flip with my car to go faster.

Brains are weird.

u/Lord-Table 22h ago

After no-lifing baldur's gate 3 for a solid month i was trying to eat with a bonus action and buying groceries took a 2nd level spell slot

I love this for you. Great job. Nice.

7

u/rkvinyl 1d ago

Rookie numbers!!!

But it looks very nice and the reward is sweeter the longer it drags on, good job!

4

u/Individual-Ad-2126 1d ago

Never thought I'd meet another soul who plays this

6

u/Magnecyl_ 1d ago

Only satisfaction is listening to Pennybridge Pioneers

4

u/zero_2_deniro 1d ago

So I wasn't familiar with this band so I just looked them up and hit the first song I saw

No Cigar

Holy shit did I just get a huge dose of nostalgia playing video games as a wee child. It sounds like something from one of the pro skater so I assume it's from that

But hot damn thank you for that.

1

u/Magnecyl_ 1d ago

No Cigar is in Tony Hawks Pro skater 2 😄

1

u/zero_2_deniro 20h ago

Yesss! I could subconsciously hear windows smashing/the trick score noise as the song was playing

Thank you for pointing it out

4

u/diffferentday 1d ago

You don't play to the top left? What are you?

17

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago

Gravity man, five hours of thumb swiping, I’m def swiping with gravity not against it.

6

u/AbroadTiny7226 1d ago

Bottom left supremacy

2

u/vegetoot 1d ago

Its so long ago. Whats this game called again?

2

u/Power_Pancake_Girl 1d ago

Damn you beat our best.

2

u/olpipi 1d ago

How long did it take? I got max 8k and it took roughly 2-3 hrs

5

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago

Just under 5 hours over multiple sessions.

2

u/yosidy 1d ago

That's beautiful

2

u/spin81 1d ago

The game of 2048 is specifically mentioned in the rules but I love this and hope the mods will allow it to stay up.

2

u/FearTheSpoonman 1d ago

So is there some sort of trick to it then, and if so could you help me out please? I love this game but couldn't work out any tricks or algorithms to it myself.

2

u/FromOogieWithLuv 1d ago

Always swipe down or right. Never left or up. Start building the big number in the corner and make the next biggest number left of that and then the next biggest number left of that etc

2

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago

That’s the general strategy, but one big thing to add is being aware of when you can safely swipe left (or whatever 3rd direction makes sense).

For example, if your bottom row is full and nothing will combine with either left or right swipe, you shouldn’t restrict yourself to two directions.

Reason I say this is rigidly focusing my on only two directions can cause problems later on.

1

u/FromOogieWithLuv 1d ago

Or your strategy is to just have an undo button

2

u/breck3 1d ago

AND listening to Pennybridge Pioneers? I met a fox the other day...

1

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago

This post was just an elaborate promotion for Millencollin :)

/s

2

u/shs621079 1d ago

I managed to get to 131072 and filled the board. But I had to spam undo as well

2

u/shs621079 1d ago

This was a while ago but here's proof https://ibb.co/ymfzVrkn

1

u/Noversi 1d ago

4.75 hours

1

u/Purplesilk911 1d ago

I started salivating

1

u/soloid 1d ago

Got to 8000 and something once without the undo button.

1

u/Alejandro_El_Diablo 1d ago

Oh, I remember playing this game something like a dozen years ago. Once I reached 131072 (it was similar to this picture but all cells were filled and the snake started with two fours). It took me a couple of month and I had nothing interesting to do at school during lessons

1

u/SSDMorgs 1d ago

I made it to the following before I jammed up last year, haven't played since.

4096 - 2048 - 4 - 4
8192 - 512 - 16 - 8
16384 - 256 - 32 - 2
32768 - 128 - 64 - 4

1

u/yeah_naw_dawg 1d ago

I’ve only ever gotten to 8192. I dream of this perfection.

1

u/ChampionSea5198 1d ago

I i've been playing the five row version of this game for ten years

1

u/CompleteComment1903 1d ago

Try 2048 bricks next time

1

u/PlanesOfFame 1d ago

Not me mis swiping and screwing the entire chain like halfway through

1

u/DryManagement1495 1d ago

Wow my high score is like 122k

1

u/Dechri_ 1d ago

I lost waaaaay too much time to this game one spring...

1

u/samthewisetarly 1d ago

This is cool except you're swiping to the bottom right corner like some kind of psychopath

1

u/FullMoonTwist 1d ago

Nearly 5 hours 😭

1

u/marc_tg 1d ago

I made it till 65536, I posted in this subreddit but it was removed

1

u/JEFE_MAN 1d ago

65,536 is my highest tile. But that’s with plenty of undos.

1

u/Honkey85 1d ago

Nice! Haven't played that in years. And it's from the f-droid shop, isn't it?

1

u/nikos563 18h ago

I was playing that game for half a year. I eventually filled all the boxes with the highest tile 131,072.

1

u/Krocsyldiphithic 4h ago

My personal record is almost exactly half that

1

u/TheAlrightyZed 1d ago

The technic that I used was basically just
A + B = C
A + B + C = D
A + B + C + D = E
So on and so forth until 32768.

5

u/Nattekat 1d ago

The issue is that there's a luck factor at play. Sometimes you're forced to break the order, and if that next spawn is behind a big number, you're down a square for a while and if really unlucky left with no way to connect a 4048 to the next one.

0

u/TheAlrightyZed 1d ago

The technic I explained work the whole way through for me without any problems.

0

u/SevEdg 1d ago

There was a simple hack to this…don’t know if its still works.
You just have to swipe in a continuously in one direction and the game will never end. But this has to be done in a new game and from the beginning.

So if you chose go clockwise then just do ➡️⬇️⬅️⬆️ and if anticlockwise then ⬅️⬇️➡️⬆️ and just continue the pattern.

1

u/SevEdg 1d ago

Checked... doesn't work now.

1

u/mudfl4p 1d ago

I just tried this, game over at score 1412 😂

1

u/SevEdg 1d ago

Update 2...sorta does work in the 5 grid

-3

u/FromOogieWithLuv 1d ago

Lol “undo” button.

How can you possibly justify this as an achievement while using undo?

You are a Fraud mate.

2

u/Diggity_nz 1d ago

Fraud kinda implies I’m trying to hide something…

My first response in the comments was explaining how I did it.

We’re talking about a post on r/oddlysatisfying about a time wasting phone game - I’m certainly not claiming some Mensa level achievement, but it was pretty damn satisfying regardless.

So maybe a bit of perspective is in order?

1

u/Icy_Society4665 1d ago

Are you schizophrenic? Where did you read that this was an achievement?
