🫡 just doing my duty as a Redditor
I bet Williamsburg is dull as fuck now. Can’t imagine there’s much to do since the sweaty bar dancing scene took a shit. Fabian’s (…Fabienne’s?) probably hasn’t existed for yeeeeears. Or that one bar that sold massive foam go-cup drinks by the park. Turkey something something? Idk, but I randomly saw Pete and/or his brother Other Pete there sometimes.

Sticking it in the microwave for like 10 seconds well defrost the peel just enough that you can squeeze the banana out.

Allow to dethaw with peel on. Add the accumulated juices to your banana bread. You have gold... banana liquor gold.

What if you want a frozen banana though?

A friend asked me if I’d like a frozen banana and I said, “No. but I want a regular banana later, so…yeah.”

Its hard to peel frozen bananas. Peel them before freezing and they are ready to use
93
u/firstfrontiers 6h ago
I've always done it this way and have found it quite easy. Make four longitudinal slices down the peel and then just peel each section off.
I like it because it's a natural seal and keeps it fresher and better tasting than peeling before freezing.

I've been freezing bananas with the skin on since I gained sentient independance, cutting and squeezing out a banana from frozen has never been a wall for me.
That said, if that's not how someone is used to doing it, I can see how it would be mildly infuriating. I found skin on to be smoothest process. The hardest part is just leaving the banana out for a few minutes for it to warm up.

u/isotope123 5h ago
Same, I've never in my life ever considered freezing bananas without the skin. Why waste the container (I assume they're using...) when the skins are a natural container?
Defrost those bad boys in a microwave

I have literally never seen anyone freeze peeled bananas.

You oughta try it sometime. They’re ready for smoothies or banana bread.
I found it highly amusing to label the freezer bag “this shit is bananas”, but now Gwen is a sellout, so do what you will.

My wife freezes bananas with the peel on for banana bread all the time…she pulls them out before she starts prepping ingredients, and the peels come off by the time she needs them…not exactly rocket science 🤷🏻♂️

u/Fast_While4496 6h ago
exactly.

Literally never had an issue with the peel this is such a hilarious post to me. They come off immediately!

Me freezing bananas with the peels on my entire life…
71
u/MajesticProposal1 6h ago
SUGGESTION: blend it with the peel and see how that's like? also let us know cause there IS NO WAY i'm doing that shit.
(banana peels are supposedly nutritious with fiber, potassium, magnesium and antioxidants)

I SAID: "BLEND WITH THE BANANA PEEL AND LET US KNOW HOW IT WENT"
5
u/Exact-Ad-4132 6h ago
So this will fuck up most blenders because the peels are like long fiber stuff. If it doesn't break the blender, it'll likely stop the blades and you'll need to pull out the fiber

I like to blend a frozen banana up with protein powder and milk. I used to slice them, put them on a sheet pan covered in plastic wrap to freeze separated, and then throw them in a bag. I've gotten progressively lazier and often throw them in the freezer whole when I notice they're dying on the table.
Anyway, point is I've done this. I can't remember how it went so I think it was good.
There was Up&Up vanilla flavored protein powder in there and I think it masks a lot of weird shit because I can also throw a bunch of frozen spinach in and don't notice, but cannot handle the spinach at all without the powder. That tastes like some kind of swamp.

I did it for years. Still do it when i buy bananas. The peel is full of flavor (you can put raw sugar on then to make a delicious banana syrup). And thickens a smoothie pretty well. A good enough blender will pulverize the material enough you can't feel it.

So, you can just run warm water over it until you can use some pressure to slide the skin a bit (that means the skin is thawed and the banana surface is thawing) then peel it.
Patience is the solution to every food related problem.
Ive seen someone lose it over undercooked meat. (They wanted it well done, it was medium-well), the pan was still hot, super easy to fix.

I do this all the time, but the fate of my frozen bananas is always banana bread/muffins.

u/Euphoric_Box604 6h ago
Yeah I accidentally did this once not thinking about how I was gonna peel a frozen banana lol
Never again

I do this all the time. I just run them under warm water for 30 seconds and peel.
3
u/Ozzymadiasaur 4h ago
I actually do this too then I just peel them with a potato peeler. I have convinced myself they keep better this way, and I have no basis for this belief.

u/SwordTaster 6h ago
Dude. Just pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds. I've done this before and they thaw fine

yeah that mildly infuriating. extremely infuriating is a knife anywhere near frozen fruit.

u/urMOMSchesticles 6h ago
I did this with a banana that I had so my boyfriend can use it for smoothies and it’s been sitting in our freezer for a couple months now 😂😂😂😂
Honestly did not realize I had to take the skin off first. Sometimes such simple things get missed and I truly don’t understand how.

Just let it thaw a little and make shallow cuts lengthwise. It will come right off.

I don't know who taught me to freeze bananas with the peels on, but oneday, I realized how insensible that is and I don't know why anyone would

u/beingachristianwife 6h ago
Don't most people do this? If you leave the skin on, you don't need to bag them up right away. If you plan to make something with them, place in a bowl overnight in the fridge, and they will be perfect for us the next day. I hate touching thawed wet bananas, so having the skin on makes it much easier to avoid that experience. Plus it's fun watching it slide out of the peel like an oversized slug 😂

I did that too the first time I froze a banana. I admit, I didn't think it through.

That's good...if you plan on making Banana ice cream...not so much if you plan on doing it any other way

u/Admirable-Apricot137 5h ago
Yeah that's normal! They tend to last and taste better if frozen in the skin, it helps protect the flesh from freezer burn and weird odors. They peel just fine after like 10 minutes of defrosting, or you can run them under hot water for a bit.
1
u/nosrebnA 5h ago
Im sorry but I have been chuckling at the mental image of someone trying to pry open a frozen banana with a knife for a solid minute now. Thanks for the laugh and I hope you enjoyed the ice cream.

I made my partner's brain make the Microsoft error noise when I put a whole banana in the freezer. They didn't specify that they wanted it in a bag, but I'm the dumbass for putting a whole unpeeled banana in the freezer upon request 🙄

u/lilyebanks 5h ago
I did that once by accident and was so mad at myself, just totally spaced out prepping for the weeks smoothies

u/SekureAtty 5h ago
Leave them out for 30 minutes. What's the struggle? Immediate gratification has made people idiots. You clearly and literally just pulled those out of the freezer and you decided to immediately try to cut frozen food. FFS!

u/monkey_trumpets 5h ago
Microwave it. I never peel bananas before chucking them into the freezer. 1 minute, flip, then 30 seconds. Thawed bananas.

That's how I was taught to do it 🤔 Put them in warm water for ~1 minute and then the peel falls right off. Perfect for making smoothies or banana cakes/bread 👌

Have you tried bananas, vanilla pudding, cool whip and nilla wafers ? Tasty, look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about.

u/lillia_top_lane 4h ago
I wait for them to defrost, use scissors to cut one tip, then smoosh the contents out into a bowl.

u/DesiresQuiet 4h ago
Like a big yellow slug being juiced. Blargh. It really does work very efficiently tho.

I make a banana smoothie every morning and I've always ran them under boiling hot water for a few seconds and it peels off fine and still taste and has the texture of a regular smoothie 🤷🏽♀️

One time i put a banana with the peel in the microwave to see what would happen and it lit on fire
