Naw, just no. ME was inferior in all accounts. The story in 2 is just better. Every single bit of it. Especially, the way it follows the strands of your choices from the first game and expands on them. The romance, the build up, the side quests, and the climax all payout delivered better in 2.

I disagree, first one is a great sci fi art house product while 2 has nothing in common with that.

Sci fi art house ≠ better story. 

The gameplay was buggy, and the story was lacking in character writing. I could keep going on, but everything was better with Edit: 2. Except for maybe like expanse, but that expanse was mainly filler rover content.

Nah. 1's main story was just straight better and had a much more compelling villian. The story of 2 was gather allies and then kill the collectors.

If you wanna reduce 2 to that you can, but that's just your take away. Being reductive doesn't makeup for the narrative failures of 1 where most of the story is exposition dumps and world building while the characters feel hollow and boring. 2 compounds on that world and delivers more narrative excellence all the way through. Not saying I dislike 1, but it just doesn't compare because the detached galactic politics aren't as impactful as the character driven narrative of 2.
