General discussion Looking for a certain clip.

Am I just imagining this or was it an actual clip?

I remember an episode where Hal's friend from college is coming over and when he sees headlights in his driveway he runs out and says "hey ya big jackass!" and then gasps and then runs inside only to say "That was Mrs Haggerty pulling out of our driveway."

This has been bugging me for awhile since I can't find the clip on youtube. I found the episode but no evidence of the line.

Would love some help trying to find it. Thanks!

General discussion I never realized how much Malcolm complains after rewatching the show.

I first watch the show on Nick at Nite about 15 years ago but after rewatching it I see Malcolm can be very annoying at times. He complains too much and can be very pessimistic. He legit had a problem with Dewey claiming that his shirt is lucky, bro had to put science and logic into that lmfao. He might be really smart but he can easily be outsmarted at the same time too.

Lois’s life is hell

I’m on season 4. Her life is absolutely miserable so far.
She has to work 38 hours a week(basically a full time job but without all the benefits), do all the chores, raise 4 chaotic children. Hal is not even capable of babysitting his own kids.
Now she’s pregnant with the fifth. And somehow, Hal refuses to get a vasectomy. How many more kids does he want?! They can’t even afford the ones they already have!
She’s flawed, but when I’m watching her screaming, all I can think of is how sad her life is.
I don’t understand how she still doesn’t resent her husband.

General discussion Where did the whole Marlin Academy plot come from?

Ive been a fan of Malcolm in the Middle, and as someone whos had the "pleasure" of going to a military school, the Marlin Academy stuff always cracks me up. Was there a specific reason why they included that in the plot/was that a common trope of that time period?

I figured maybe one of the creators went through one or maybe it was way more common in the 90s-2000s, because I only really knew about one in my region growing up. I dont really have a great frame of reference for the time period since I was a little kid for when Malcolm in the Middle is set

General discussion Malcolm in the Middle was an enigma of a show that we probably won’t see again.

Malcolm in the Middle was created at such a pivotal time. It was the turn of the millennium which added a heavy aesthetic identity. It perfectly encapsulated the bottom middle class household. It had a unique over the top style of humor.
There’s only two shows that have came anywhere close to scratching that itch.
What We Do in the Shadows.
Community.

Any other shows?

I really wasn't expecting him to show up.

And by the way, i just finished "reese joins the army part 2" and I'm bummed about how serious the situation got and i wasn't expecting a 3-parter.

funny/memes/GIFs Nightmare About the Malcolm Family

Just had a nightmare where the Malcolm family moved to some big old southern mansion (like Eddie Murphy in Haunted Mansion) and weird things kept popping up with each family member, as they began settling in and exploring the house.

Don’t remember much, but in the end, Hal is cutting up a big tree branch that had fallen on the roof, and these ghoul like creatures (think those voiceless guys from Buffy) kept trying to attack Hal, but he had ear protecting headphones on and was running a chainsaw, and as soon as the ghouls would try to attack him, he would inadvertently turn or duck, just away or under them, and he knocked one of them with a falling bit of tree and another tripped and fell off a cliff edge, as it was lunging at him.

Eventually, Hal turns and sees the ghouls, but he is immediately transfixed, entering a sort of catatonic stare, and then starts speaking in an old Southern accent. The ghouls are dumbfounded, only for the main guy to realize that Hal is channeling his old ancestor (a portrait of whom you could see hanging in the main lobby, which looks exactly like Hal but with a monocle and a mustache).

The main ghoul then does a literal facepalm and says something to the effect of, “oh no, not this guy! This guy was a total dolt, from 200 years ago, and now we have to deal with him.”

Hal then proceeds to speak in the Southern accent and doing some buffoonish things, at which point I woke up.

So, a mix of MITM, Haunted Mansion, Buffy, and the Scooby-Doo Movie. Not sure if this is interesting, or even allowed on this sub, but I very much enjoyed the dream, especially the part where Hal was obliviously knocking the ghouls around.
