Not a KDE project, but worth a mention here. Audacity 4.0 is out, and the headline change is a full rewrite of the UI on Qt, moving off wxWidgets.

Along with the toolkit switch:

• Native HiDPI rendering
• Dockable/floatable panels with saveable Workspaces
• Light, dark, and high-contrast themes with configurable accent colors
• A reworked clip-editing model built around the new interface

Some older features (Time Tracks, MIDI tracks, Macro Manager, VAMP/LADSPA plugins) aren't ported over yet.

Is there a solution for tripping login screen in KDE plasma? Sometimes it goes wild, sometimes it is normal. Sometimes its on both screens, but usually only on external one. This only happens on login screen. I'm using Kubuntu 26.04.

This one's particularly relevant to this sub since Plasma gets the best-supported path.

Orbiscreen turns a spare Android tablet into a second monitor for Linux. On KDE Plasma (Wayland) it uses a KWin virtual output through zkde-screencast directly, so there's no kernel module to install and no screen-share authorization dialog every time, it's genuinely rootless.

orbiscreen doctor will confirm which path it picked on your system and flag anything missing.

Install: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shadow-x78/ppa && sudo apt install orbiscreen (or COPR for Fedora, AUR for Arch)

Once installed it shows up in the app menu, click to start, right-click to stop or run diagnostics. No terminal needed after install.

Also does stylus pressure (4095 levels) for Krita, hardware encoding through VA-API or NVENC, and works over USB via adb reverse if you'd rather skip Wi-Fi entirely.

Would love Plasma-specific feedback, especially on multi-monitor setups combining a physical screen with the virtual one.

i know system monitor is deeply customizable, but by default it should at least show cpu/gpu temp and maybe disk and network rates.

This issue is closed unsolved both on GitHub and on Reddit.

Recording the solution for posterity:

For me, the cause turned out to be KDE notifications being disabled. The DBUS message timeout is 25 seconds, and both ThunderBird and Signal would hang on receiving a message. Thunderbird would recover after 25 seconds and Signal would be gone. Re-enabling KDE notifications fixed the issue.

Anyone know of any good android holo (or even android 2 or 3 themes)? Couldn't seem to find any but honestly that kind of UI looks sick and I wish to replicate it on my laptop.

KDE plasma 6.7.x (Recent cachyOS)

Panel colorizer 8.0.0

WHenever I set a theme, It will reduce the size of taskbar pinned apps icons. SO now the Application launcher icon is of full/regular size and others are small. BUT ... The icons will snap back to regular size if I set panel height from panel configuration to 48. ie they become same as the application launcher icon. But below that the icons become smaller. See images.

I like to keep the panel size to 44. 48 is too large. Why is this happening? I checked the margin settings in Panel colorizer but nothing worked.

I tried minimize then maximize and moving the window, but still.

When I close an app an reopen it, it starts as it should, no display bug, but after the sleep happens, it restarts.

I'm using Fedora 44 with KDE Plasma 6.7.4. I went to System Settings -> Security & Privacy -> Login Screen -> Configure Appearance, selected a wallpaper, clicked the Apply button (that also has a padlock icon) but nothing happened. When I closed System Settings, it warned me that there are unsaved changes, but after clicking Apply there, the new wallpaper is still not applied.

I have been a KDE Plasma user for years. I switched from GNOME back when Plasma 5.25 was released sometime in 2022. I have literally never known this feature existed, but I like it! It is cool to have my custom mechanical keyboard with (QMK/Via firmware) match the backlight to my system's accent color.

I literally just found out it exists today. I am on Fedora 44 with Plasma 6.7.4, and I am just curious when this feature was added.

I installed on my Lenovo Legion Go steam Os and very often use desktop mode, so i want to make system more beautiful and make it transparent and blur.
But in the settings (desktop effects) already enabled blur and transparent options and this didn’t work
How can i fix it?

I reported this at NVIDIA already but I thought I’d ask in case there’s a workaround here. Basically I have 4 monitors, and I want to show PlasmaLogin on 2 of them, so I edited my layout on the Desktop and use the apply to PlasmaLogin function to set it properly.

This works, but then when I change back to my desired desktop layout, and login, my GPU crashes with the aformentioned Xid errors, the only fix is to cp ~/.config/kwinoutputconfig.json /var/lib/plasmalogin/.config/kwinoutputconfig.json and restart.

is there a workaround for this? This used to work fine but since I switched to Fedora 44/NVIDIA 610 this has been happening and I have no idea why.

I have tried disabling VRR and disabling HDR, to no effect.

Is there an explaining for kwinoutputconfig anywhere other than looking through the codebase? I see that there is an array object for each display, and then a bunch of mappings at the end of the file that I presume maps to the connected monitor states (so if you have 4 monitors, and disconnect one, it generates a map for 3 monitors only, I guess outputIndex is the monitor from the original array the config applies to?)

Thanks for any pointers, but for now I disabled PLM and am using the TTY to login with a dialog to select bigscreen or desktop.

I'm using Fedora's KDE Spin with a pretty default config, and I think I found something that could be improved.

When I hover over an application in the application bar, a preview of the application's windows is popped up. When I attempt to close the application using the "Close Window" button on one of the window previews, however, the "Close Window" popover text blocks the mouse action from closing the window. I'll include a screenshot in the comments to this post if this post doesn't have a picture.

What configs do I change to make the popover text display somewhere that doesn't block the button? I'm not a KDE expert, and I'd like to learn more about how to configure KDE so that I can fix problems like this in the future.
