Germany has more castles than the United States has McDonald’s. This is the Eltz castle, located in Wiershem. It has been owned and occupied by the same family for 33 generations over 800 years

I've been there! You can go inside but can't take pictures as people still actually live there. It's absolutely breathtaking and was one of the best parts of my trip (though the whole country was incredible honestly). The castle is super tall but you can't see it until you're up close because it's in the center of a deep valley surrounded by tall hills. This is also one of the reasons it's stood (mostly) undisturbed for so long
