I’ve been developing a VR-based OEE monitoring system that combines production simulation, standardized work, operator interaction, and real-time OEE monitoring.

The idea is to connect IE concepts such as work measurement, process improvement, operator training, and OEE with an interactive 3D/VR environment.

In the video, an operator performs a simulated CNC production process in VR while the production data and operator position can be monitored through a 3D dashboard.

I’m exploring how VR can be used not only for training, but also as a tool for Industrial Engineering analysis and production system improvement.

Would be interested to hear how others see the potential of VR in IE applications.

Hi everyone,

I’m an Industrial Engineering student in Morocco and I’m feeling a bit lost about my career direction.

Academically, I’m below average and mostly just passing my exams, so I’m not sure whether I dislike the field or simply haven’t found the right part of it yet.

My main strengths are communication and people skills. I speak French and English fluently, I’m very comfortable with public speaking, and I enjoy organizing, coordinating people, and bringing structure to things.

I’m wondering what areas of Industrial Engineering could fit this profile best: supply chain, logistics, project management, consulting, procurement, business analysis, operations, quality, etc.

For those already working in the field: should I keep exploring Industrial Engineering until I find my niche, or start preparing for a different career that matches my strengths better?

And If you were an IE student again with my profile, what would you focus on for the next 6–12 months? And if you could recommend just ONE book, YouTube channel, or Coursera course, what would it be?

Any advice from people who felt similarly as students would be really appreciated.

Hello all I have a Master’s degree in computer software engineering and I have been working as a project manager for Oracle fusion systems and OIC for approximately 2 years. With the current state of the market and AI layoffs happening, I want to pivot into industrial engineering as to be very honest it looks a bit stable at the moment, are there any ways I can transfer my skills to this field?

I am looking into the University of Louisville for a master’s in Industrial Engineering. I have a flexible job but work full-time and need an online degree.

I’m looking to change careers. I majored in biology and minored in math, and I currently work in digital marketing. I enjoy it, but I don’t think marketing ops will survive AI, or at least won’t be as resilient as Industrial Engineering.

Has anyone had experience with this program? What were your thoughts? Any other online grad programs you would suggest looking into?

I’m graduating soon and I feel so lost about what jobs I can be competitive in as I feel I didn’t do much at my internships.

My first internship was at a college lab where I did basic Python data processing.

My second internship was at a chemical factory and I did power bi for most of the time. It reduced reporting times, but that’s really the only IE related thing it did.

I was planning to apply to business analytics jobs, but I feel I don’t know enough knowledge and major wise to compete against computer science and data science majors who are also cheaper.

I used Claude code a lot and I’m worried that my technical skills are basically now obsolete and replaceable with AI.

I feel like I’m lacking the manufacturing side and hard skills, especially lean 5s and six sigma. Should I delay graduation again to get a traditional manufacturing internship?

Can anyone ID or point me to the right sub that could. Company bought old Amada punch not sure of the model. I was told this was how we needed to communicate with machine but I wasn’t sure. I would have thought a db9 or db25 to db9. Of course it’s possible my source is just as misinformed as I am.

How many others have this problem? I am constantly racking my brain on ideas for the production floor or having conversations in my heads working through problems from different angles. Also, cannot stop converting problems into analogies to be able to explain to non-IE brained people.

I have been tossing and turning through most of tonight in preparation for a enterprise leadership meeting tomorrow on this software we are exploring. I do not agree with the approach to my core, so I have been tossing around trying to have questions and scenarios ready to demonstrate how poor of a fit this software will be for us.

Well going through that logic then kicked off a different problem I was facing with a production line I am laying out in a new building. I just never stops for me and I'm curious who else functions this way. Sometimes I absolutely crave this and others I do wonder how healthy it is to not be able to shut it down.

TLDR;

How do I work my way south?

I'm an engineer semi fluent in Spanish. I'd live and work in Mexico or other Spanish speaking countries. I keep hearing that I need to find a big corporation and work my way through to a role that straddles the border. I'd love to work on logistics and manufacturing projects full time in LATAM but I'd be happy working out of an American office connected to a Mexican factory.

How do I do this?

Starting industrial engineering next month and I want to ask is industrial engineering ai proof because I have hearing different types of options from different types of people

I have been tasked with mounting an auxiliary control panel for a portion of an automated conveyor system so that maintenance can move the line manually for a variety of reasons. I've figured out the hardware side of things and am waiting on ice cube relays to arrive before actually wiring in the Gigglebox (yes that is the official name, I'm slightly proud of the fact that that will be reflected in official documentation). I am a Maintenance tech, and I can read a schematic just fine but I'm told that I'll need to draw a schematic to be put in the binder with the rest of the prints for this equipment. I've managed to simplify the hardware side of things because we don't have more available PLC inputs, but I fear I've made it so the schematic for this is beyond what I can compile neatly and I'm not sure if there's even a way to draw some of it.

The manual directional control is a set of selector switches wired to the motor contactor coils through an interposing relay (gonna run it backwards through a set of ice cube relays) to prevent feeding back to the PLC when the gigglebox is enabled. It's entirely possible in overthinking this, but I'm trying to keep this minor monstrosity on a single page. Included is the top of the schematic for the gigglebox and one version of a control circuit for one segment of the conveyor. I'm not sure if there is a specific way to reflect that the ice cube relay is put in backwards or what that might be.

I know ie is extremely versatile but i want to go into an industry that allows me the flexibility to work hybrid or online like 5 years into my career. i was thinking of a minor in supply chain management but idk if that will allow flexibility i’m looking for.

I’m finishing up at community college soon and looking for where to transfer. I can’t decide if ucf or going to tally would be better cause fsu-famu is more renowned but ucf is in orlando and i’ve heard it’s easier to get internships.
