I think it really depends on the counseling you’re looking for. For me, I was looking to get my depression ans anxiety diagnosed and everyone was very helpful to me there. I haven’t been seeing a therapist but I have been seeing a psychiatrist there. That has been super helpful to me - as far as therapy type stuff I don’t have any experience with. I hope you find the help you’re looking for + wishing you the best ⭐️

Or like “I can tell you really care about your animals because of how upset you are” and it’s like idk. Maybe since they don’t know you, it’s hard to expect them to be any good, because part of their job is learning who you are and sort of tailoring your treatment plan to you, but I still felt it was pretty surface level. I’m sure the clinician is much better at doing therapy now.

I accidentally killed my betta fish that I had bought, yes, that’s a big deal to me, and so I went for one of the emergency therapy sessions because I was distraught because usually I’m not, you know killing my pets. I don’t remember what she said to me but it was sort of bogus. Like something to the effect of “at least you have other fish” or something. I just remember leaving it like “damn”

I’d say it’s somewhat of a crap shoot. Basically you sign up, get asked if you want a licensed therapist or a “student” therapist (still fairly qualified, just in training), and after a decent bit of time they finally schedule you for some sessions. I forget how long it took me but I think it was at least a month between signing up and actually seeing someone, and I even chose the student option.

I only went for a few sessions because honestly between when I signed up and when I actually got seen my “issues” were resolved. It was still fairly useful though, I got a bit of insight to myself, learned a few coping skills, did a little talk therapy. Strictly I’d say it’s better than nothing, but the real benefits are that they can refer you to get a free personal trainer at the gym which is pretty nice if guided exercise can help you. Also it’s free.

That being said, they can only help for garden variety stuff. I know some people who because of the severity of their needs were actually denied by student services. They will still try to connect you with a local qualified professional, but it takes such an insanely long time for them to do so that it’s honestly quicker to do it yourself.

Basically if your issues are school related and you’re looking to get accommodations, a trainer, or would benefit from fairly surface level therapy, then go for it. If you have more deep rooted or “serious” issues and are trying to get some real work done, try to start looking around in town.

With your budget, look for an apartment. I lived in Cardinal Court and while it worked well for me at the time I wouldn't recommend it unless you have to live in university housing

OP is currently a sophomore and planning for 27-28 school year when they are a junior. No exemption needed

Don’t you need an exemption? Sorry been 9/10 yrs for me lmao. If you can go apartment tho. Closer to campus and cheaper. If you’re forced to the dorms 100p to cardinal ct. they brought that back for the first time my soph yr and loved it compared to the jail cell I was in at Tri

Eh we just wanted money and we weren’t a frat so we let everyone in. We had a little White House near the trail on willow with a big basement. It was crazy. I remember the apartment party next to us got shut down and nothing happened to us hahaha

Apartments, cardinal court is super overpriced. Plenty of apartments under $600

That was Wednesdays I think. The same night you could get a pitcher of Captain and Coke for $6.25. $20 was enough for 2 or 3 people to get drunk. What a time to be alive.

Oh and $.75 well drinks at Stadium on Thursdays.

My memory is fuzzy from time and probably the fact I was chugging keg beers and jello shots, but yea I do remember some times it was cheaper for us to get in! And girls always got in the door full house or not hah!

My roommates and I on willow would charge 5 for guys 3 for girls. So you aren’t wrong.

Dollar Pitcher Night survived at Shanigan's until the late 90's at least. RIP.

I'm staff and we pay a ton to park as well. Luckily, my hours are 7:00am to 3:30pm so I always have a spot. I also never go anywhere on lunch cause if I do, no parking! When I used to work later hours, I got stuck so many times (dozens and dozens) paying for a meter until lunch time when someone would finally leave a spot.

I find that the best parties are ones where you have some loose connection to the person running it. Make friends from campus and you'll find your way there eventually.
