Is it permanent for r/gaming or like a bonus gay pride month sorta thing?

I finished Act 3 just few days ago and have to say that overall it was probably the best metroidvania which I ever played. Huge and brilliantly designed map, diversified biomes, challenging but also satisfying boss fights, fantastic and perfectly suited soundtrack. Hype surrounding this production was incredible, but IMO it lived up to expectations and landed on my TOP15 games of all time list.

Using a c to Ethernet adapter. This surprisingly work.

For obvious reasons, there's been a lot of talk of physical game media lately. And in almost every discussion I've seen on it, there's been a lot of people confidently saying that modern game discs don't even contain the games anymore, that it's basically just a license to download.
So I decided to test this theory with my Ghost of Yōtei game disc by completely disconnecting my PS5 from the Internet and attempting to install from the disc with no internet connection.
And it worked. The full game installed. And to forestall any arguments that it was a partial installation (and just for the fun of seeing what happens when I skip all the sidequests), I powered through the main story. I made it through the whole game (while overcoming some launch day bugs) without ever connecting to the Internet.
Which is to say if you buy this disc, you do in fact own a physical copy of the game (additional screenshots below).

I was replaying the game recently and it got me thinking about what this game went through.
The leaks dropped, the internet went into a complete meltdown, and millions of people declared it dead on arrival. You couldn’t go anywhere without seeing claims that Naughty Dog ruined the franchise and that the game was going to tank financially.
Then the game came out.
It ended up shattering sales records, won Game of the Year, and took home hundreds of awards. People spent months insisting it was a guaranteed failure, only for the game to completely overpower the backlash. Whether you liked the narrative choices or not, watching a game face that level of pre release outrage and still turn into a critically acclaimed title was pure vindication.
I don't think there will be another title as divisive as TLOU2, let alone one that pulls off that kind of success while winning Game of the Year.

So a few days ago I made a thread talking about the studios Nintendo own: https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/1w21iyt/a_list_of_all_15_nintendo_owned_studios/
Today, I'm going to talk about Nintendo itself and their internal development teams. Pretty much every big japanese company has their own internal development divisions (outside of external studios owned by them) and Nintendo is no different.
Historically, Nintendo has had multiple divisions since the 70s which over time were merged until 2004 when Nintendo EAD (Entertainment Analysis and Development, since 1989) and Nintendo SPD (Software Planning and Development, since 2004) remained as the sole survivors. Nintendo EAD was headed by Miyamoto and focused on 2D Mario, 3D Mario, Pikmin, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Wii series, Splatoon, etc while Nintendo SPD was headed initially by iwata and later on by Shinya Takahashi and focused on developing warioware, metroid, tomodachi and rhythm heaven while another side of it focused on producing and overseeing games developed outside of Nintendo.
In 2015 during Kimishima first year, Nintendo EAD and NIntendo SPD merged to become Nintendo EPD (Entertainment Planning and Development). Nintendo EPD then assumed the roles of both EAD and SPD, now under just one single division instead of two.
Under this new division, now Miyamoto retired from his role as General Manager after decades and Shinya Takahashi who was General Manager of Nintendo SPD became the General Manager of Nintendo EPD, a position he has for 10 years (now executive general manager)
In Nintendo EPD, it is then divided into 10 known groups called Production Groups, all of them with a manager who manages their groups while the managers of all groups are overseen by Takahashi
Co-Production Group: Before 2023 it was called Production group Number 1 and number 2 with both merging to become one. This group doesnt develop games, although theyre still devs, they instead oversee and produce games not developed internally be it contracted by Nintendo or done by their subsidiaries and published by Nintendo. 95% of external developed games have producers and staff from them involved.
Production group no 6: like co-production group, it focus on overseeing and producing. It focus on the 5% which recently for them just means Paper Mario, Warioware Metroid Prime and Next Level Games titles, which are all either nintendo subsidiaries or contracted studios. It wasn't merged so far but I expect it to be over time to co-production group
Now going into the development focused groups, with only new games mentioned, not remasters:
Production Group number 3: Develop 3D Zelda, co-develop 2D Zelda, license and supervise Hyrule Warriors, remasters/remakes, and other spin-offs.
Works on Switch: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Echoes of Wisdom (w/grezzo)
Production Group number 4: Develop quirky, casual and experimental IP, generally not focusing on one IP but creating new IP and projects. Its manager is Kouichi Kawamoto, the General director of switch, producer of switch 2 and previously a director and mostly a producer on all the games of epd4.
Works on Switch: 1-2-Switch, Nintendo Labo, Ring Fit Adventure, Brain Training for Nintendo Switch, Game Builder Garage, Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain, Nintendo Switch Sports, Everybody 1-2-Switch, Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, Rhythm Heaven Groove
Works on Switch 2: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort
Production Group Number 5: Develop Splatoon and Animal Crossing. Since 2019 its manager is Aya Kyogoku, the director of animal crossing new leaf and new horizons
Works on Switch: Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Splatoon 3
Works on Switch 2: Drag x Drive, Splatoon Raiders
Production Group number 7: Co-develop Metroid and Famicom Detective club, responsible for planning, composition, direction, concept and production while usually needing an external developer to co-develop. Originally developed Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life prior to the epd merger but seemingly in the last years part of the group or everyone merged with EPD4 after those two titles released and the staff was there so we dont know if the group still exist. But they existed in the switch era so im mentioning them
Works on Switch: Metroid Dread (w MercurySteam), Famicom Detective Club Remakes (w Mages), Emio (w Mages)
Production Group number 8, aka Nintendo EPD Tokyo: The only EPD outside of Kyoto, they develop 3d Mario and 3d DK.
Works on Switch: Super Mario Odyssey, Bowser's Fury
Works on Switch 2: Donkey Kong Bananza
Production Group number 9: Develop Mario Kart and Arms
Works on Switch: Arms
Works on Switch 2: Mario Kart World
Production Group number 10: Develop 2D Mario and Pikmin
Works on Switch: Super Mario Maker 2, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Pikmin 4
Anyway thats it, I used my own knowledge and what i had in mind for this. Of course, this is just what comes out of EPD, nintendo releases come from them, nintendo own external studios and contracted studios, that's all part of the nintendo ecosystem but this here is nintendo itself. Hope you guys learned a lot if you didnt know much which is ofc very abreviated.

That time when studios have already learned how to make big budget blockbusters, but the development cycle is not 5+ years yet.

Played for hours with Onimusha and man finally a melee combat Japanese game with such a coherent story and not something all over the place. Agreed, nioh has great combat. But that’s all you can tell about those games. Combat and nothing else. No world building, not even barebones of a story, no effort in voice acting or animation.
Onimusha is no slouch when it comes to combat either. There is depth and way more.
Most Japanese soulslike melee combat games hide behind their combat making it okay to have every other feature downright horrible (graphics, story, even worse art design). From soft lacks only in graphics and performance. Their story and art design is amazing. Story telling is unique and but I am okay with it before there is significant effort.
Onimusha feels like complete package

Hey everyone, GTA 5 enhanced was released on PC last year but it had a lot of bugs. Is the situation any better now or should I re-play the legacy version with mods?
r/gaming • u/burnoutbrighter • 18h ago
I was just wondering, considering how eagerly everyone seemed to be anticipating it,
It feels like the buzz died down within a few weeks of its release and it’s kind of faded into the background. Was it just nostalgia crowd that got excited about it?
I mean, for a producer who made *Super Smash Bros.*, it felt like a pretty ordinary game.

I know it sounds silly and rather extreme, but I’m playing through the metro series currently. Seeing how fucked up life is in this game and remembering how shit things were during the pandemic makes the little issues in life seem trivial, rather than letting them become something bigger than they are.

If any of you remember the console game "Dead Block", the developers have banded back together to further develop and release a successor in "Dead Party". All previous posts in here regarding this game are archived so I can't reply now but I haven't seen the devs post about it anywhere.
Currently there is a demo available, will be playing with friends later tonight

PlayStation started to change for the worst around 2018/2019. Shawn Layden, a CEO that actually cared about games, left the company. Shuhei Yoshida, who was there from PlayStation's original conception, was demoted to a much less significant role because he wasn't fully compliant with Sony's new direction, live service.
Jim Ryan becomes CEO of SIE, and it's immediately clear from this point forward where Sony's priorities lie. Shuts down Japan Studio because Sony wants to focus on AAA. Restructures some staff to form Team Asobi as a last bastion (who won GOTY for Astro Bot, a AA game how funny). Then they announce that they have ***12*** live service games in development, and that they are acquiring Bungie for $3.6B to help steer this ship.
I won't reiterate Sony ending physical game discs, there's already been enough text written about that and probably what I've written above. PlayStation isn't even a shell of it's former self, it's morphed into something else completely. What do you guys think? Do you think PlayStation is still a brand worth being hopeful about? And for the PlayStation fans out there, do you support Sony's direction and if you do, why?

Basically, it allows you to have a sort of 'physical' game library, where you can get a better overview of what games you have to play. You might feel like an older one sometime, or just realize that you have a buncha unfinished games that are actually good and not buy even more. ;) And once you touch the game to the sensor (reader), it starts automatically, or starts downloading if it's not installed.
In my mind, the box would be a bit bigger than a credit card and like 5-7mm thick so it can stand on its side. Label (with title on edge) from regular 2D printer with a sticker sheet OR from a color capable 3D printer which are becoming cheaper.
Various styles would be available. Want NES, SNES or maybe Atari style cartridge? Just spend a few minutes editing the existing label and you're good.
The actual production of the box wouldn't take very long per game once you own the required stuff. NFC stuff is fairly cheap, but it looks to be at least $20-40 for the NFC reader/writer. And the NFC cards and actual plastic for 3D prints are cheap af.

Hi, was thinking of upgrading my 1080p Sony tv for a 4k one. Probably going to go for 55-60inch 4k 120hz OLED since I figure it will last me 10+ years and ps6 will work well on it when that comes out.
I heard OLED are “better” but need dark rooms? And if left on a static screen or a screen has logos or HUD in one spot over time the pixels burn and leave an outline? I’m curious as to how easy that happens? If lets say gta6 comes out and i play only that for a few weeks for hours a day and the hud stays in one spot everyday for 5/6 hours will I risk getting that burn?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: It seems someone is downvoting all positive comments on OLEDS. Idk why but thanks for the help. Ill look more into this refresh technology everyones on about. Hopefully when i get one it lasts 10+ years.

Holy shit i can not stop playing this game it's genuinely nuts. Never in my life did i think that this would be a genre that would appeal to me but the Star Wars IP sucked me in and i have to been able to get back out for days. Is this how fun the X-Com games are cause i gotta give those a try if so

Look, what I mean is, it’s exhausting to see the menu cluttered with abilities that don't really do anything—skills where it makes no real difference whether they’re there or not. Am I supposed to apologize for not wanting to see five MORE "filler" skills instead of five actually useful, important ones? It’s just a topic for discussion; just chill a little bit, LMAO.
