when i was a young bartender i drove drunk countless times.

i changed jobs and the realization of what i did makes me shiver still. i never crashed but that doesnt change the fact that i could cause a tragedy all those times.

i spent more money now to get a taxi or have family member pick me up if and when that happens now.

In my mid 20s I got a job as a pitmaster at a local restaurant and bar. The job involved me showing up at 2am and running the smokers and prepping all the bbq sides. I'd show up right as the bar was closing, and the staff would hang out after hours and party. I fell into some bad habits and started drinking pretty heavily during my shifts. The shifts were long, and I would stop drinking before day shift showed up, so I wasn't completely blasted by the time I had to drive home, but there were more than a few occasions I probably still shouldn't have driven.

That was a fun job, but I very quickly realized if I stuck with it I was going to wind up an alcoholic.

same, shirt brother. i am still drinking, more than normal if im being honest due to circumstances id rather not get into, but the one thing id never do again is drive drunk.

i was a witness to a very gruesome accident in my town, because of a drunk driver. that could be me and i would not be able to live with myself with lives taken because of my stupidity.

I was a bartender throughout my 20s while in school. Drinking and drugs is just part of the industry. The other bartenders that I knew that never moved forward with their lives are full blown alcoholics and/or drug addicts.

I was once caught by the cops on a rave doing Molly and they made me get back in my car and drive home (1 hour away), I was not ready for that journey

Especially since they caught me making hotboxing in the car, asked me if I had anything with me, told them no and ended up having some weed in my pocket. There were a lot of people with a lot of pills there, so they most likely just thought I was insignificant in comparison

Remember. It takes two years of school and a license to cut people's hair, but only a high school diploma and 6 months of "killology" classes to be a cop in the US.

When and where I grew up drinking and driving was totally acceptable. In fact it was pretty much *the* plan for most weekends. Chip in for some beer and weed. Then drive around the back roads ingesting those things. I had the biggest car so I drove more than anybody.

One - I got popped for a DUI when I was home from college my freshman year. Two - it wasn't "fun" doing it where I was going to college. Driving around at 10mph with no other cars around on a dirt road is very different from driving down a split four-lane through the middle of town going 45mph.

While ride shares are pretty shitty for everybody - the taxi service where I moved after college was a joke. Nothing like being stranded across town in a dark parking lot at 2am. Never a problem now.
