I wonder if the driver mistakenly thought the bus was further back and was just stopping for the train tracks and realized too late it was an actual stop or something like that.
It doesn't seem like they were just trying to ignore the bus signal. Not saying they didn't screw up, just that it doesn't seem like the typical "I'm too important to stop for this" shit.
74
u/Psychological_View56 23h ago
I agree. Just seemed like an awkward moment for them. The lights turn red when they're already at an awkward distance and the arm comes out after they're already partially past the bus.
54
u/Ok_Assumption1542 23h ago
Bus driver put out the red at an interesting time to be sure. Good practice to wait till traffic ( in this case a single car) that was that close passes. The driver really did look like they were trying to do the right thing, lots of hesitation.

u/xAPPLExJACKx 17h ago
Bus driver put out the red at an interesting time
No he had the yellow on for awhile.
6
u/Ok_Assumption1542 16h ago
You can pass on yellow. Red means stop. Yellow means prepare to stop and routinely means "hurry and get past so I can flip on the red." Especially when its only 1 car.
11
u/SailingSpark 20h ago
yes, but the yellows were going long before the reds. That SUV should have been coming to halt on the ambers, because the reds are never far behind
1
u/Noah_Webb 2h ago
Yellow doesn't mean stop. The bus driver should have waited for him to pass before putting out the stop sign. Hope he has a dash cam cause he should fight it.
18
23
u/Chillkill710 23h ago
Ya I don't think they understand how the yellow and reds on busses work. Like it seems like they are thinking, "it's yellow so slow down and caution." And then when it turns to red it's like there caught by surprise and like "well what do I do now" and then by the time they stop there to far and in the path of the bus and then decide to pull up to get out of the way.
10
u/Tomytom99 21h ago
The number of people who think that way is crazy
You'd think it'd be pretty clear that a bus with its yellows on and is stopped or almost stopped is going to flip over to reds, but apparently people don't seem to understand that and act like they're being tricked or something.
3
u/Long-Purchase-3611 20h ago
For real. The majority of the comments on this sub tells intelligent people exactly what the real problems are on our roadways.
7
u/Lilfrankieeinstein 20h ago
The driver should have stopped period. But I think the comments you’re talking about are more focused on the legality of when/where you pass the bus and what color the lights are.
It’s like in football. Yeah, he should have maintained possession of the catch after contact with the ground, but did he have two feet in bounds with firm possession before contact sent him flying out of bounds then to the ground? Wouldn’t that constitute a catch? Why does it matter what happens after he gets hit if he has possession when he first steps out of bounds?
It’s less about what he should have done and more about whether what he did is wrong, per se.

It looks like to me they thought they would get by before the yellow stopped and red started. Then they saw a cop and froze up
3
u/Alexwonder999 20h ago
I was once behind a bus and it was pretty late in the day, like approaching 5pm, and a bus just pulled over. I came to a stop and then they didnt have any lights on so I figured they were just pulling over and proceeded to pass. Right as I was almost to the back of the bus they put on their hazards and whipped the sign out amd started blaring the horn at me. I feel like I waited behind them for a minute before I proceeded, although it might have been 30 seconds, but Im still kind of pissed because anyone who saw the tail end would have assumed I was just passing a bus with their lights on and the sign out. Im very cautious around busses but Im also thinking sometimes they just pull over for whatever reason, maybe to make a phone call on the way back to the bus yard or to yell at some kid, and why wouldnt they put their lights on immediately if theyre letting kids off or even as theyre coming to a stop?
7
u/TheGoluOfWallStreet 23h ago
I'm nervous every time I see a school bus. I know the rules but I fear not noticing the signaling on time
4
u/reeedwaterloo 21h ago
The yellow lights mean the red is coming. Just like a stop light. The yellow lights were flashing when it was plenty far enough away. There’s no leeway with police on that. They put the ‘awkward distance’ between themselves and the stop sign coming out.
7
u/sarcasticorange 20h ago
Yellow lights do not always mean red is coming next for busses, at least not in the states I've lived in. When busses stop at RR crossings, which they are required to do, they activate only their yellow lights. Red is only used when someone is getting on or off.
1
u/_jump_yossarian 18h ago
When buses stop at train tracks the red flashing lights come on so that's no excuse. You see a bus in the middle of the road with flashing yellows the next thing that will happen is flashing reds with the STOP sign so the correct action is to stop.

u/bryhnlearningspanish 23h ago edited 22h ago
but wait aren’t the lights just yellow and the stop sign isn’t out when she starts to pass?
29
u/AverageBastard 23h ago
You’re right! The sign is out once the car has already passed the front of the bus. Now, they did have the opportunity to stop and knowing the bus was about to put their sign out, the lights are flashing to signal the bus is about to stop. The car was going to stop, they started to break and could have done so safely but they continued on.
9
u/bryhnlearningspanish 22h ago
yea i live in an area where theres a lot of school buses and being that person sometimes is difficult because at least where i live sometimes the buses will sit on the yellow lights for a bit so you can still pass but just slowly. but then if they pop out the reds right as your passing you feel like a jerk.
i dont think this person was trying to be a jerk. just mistimed.
20
u/Mendacium17 23h ago
I’m not American, I don’t get what the car did wrong?
33
u/GDITurbo77 23h ago
You can't pass a school bus if the red lights are flashing.
→ More replies (2)0
u/shewy92 19h ago
But they weren't when they passed. Or it was very close.
3
u/_jump_yossarian 18h ago
Flashing yellows were on and a warning to stop. Driver chose to ignore the warning.
1
u/GDITurbo77 19h ago
The car seemed to be a good 25-30ft away when. The flashing reds came on. You could also see him brake to slow down when the yellows were flashing so he knew the bus was coming to a stop. It seemed like he had plenty of time to stop with the speed he was going.
24
u/lifeistrulyawesome 23h ago
When a school bus has the stop sign and flashing red lights, you can think about it as an active crosswalk with a pedestrian walk sign, so kids can cross safely
Driving past it is one of the most serious driving offences in the US and Canada, because there is a good chance that a kid might be about to cross.
4
u/TheJivvi 23h ago
Interesting. In Australia we just have to slow down to 40km/h (25mph), and only on the same side of the road as the bus. The flashing lights are on the back, so you don't even see them if you're going the other way. This is for all buses, not just school buses, although that speed limit also applies near schools around the start and end of the school day, whether there's a bus there or not.
But children have it drilled into them to only cross at marked crossings (which almost always have lights near a school), and to wait till the bus is gone so it doesn't block their view.
1
u/AirplanesMakeMeHard 17h ago
Here in the US you ALWAYS need to stop for a school bus when the stop sign is out UNLESS there is a physical median/curb/guard rail, etc in the road.
I know this for a fact because I was given a ticket for passing a school bus w/ the stop sign out even though there was a curb in the road. Went to court, didn't even have a lawyer, just went in with the applicable law printed out and it was instantly thrown out. Prosecutor and judge didn't even know about the law. I guess they never read their drivers books when they were a kid and got their license for the first time. At least in my state. This is not legal advice. Review the laws in your area.
6
u/Alternative-Base5573 23h ago
Apparently in some(or all states) when school buses stop to let kids on and/or off, they have a stop sign light/show up, which means it is illegal to pass at all. Should be like that here around too...
-2
u/ImportantSignal2098 23h ago
If anything the stop sign is the most confusing part of this. You can see it in this video too. And the driver acted as if it was a literal stop sign - they stopped, then went ahead. They should be using something other than the stupid stop sign there imo.
1
u/xAPPLExJACKx 17h ago
Please don't drive.
They teach you how to handle traffic control devices including school buses and construction crews
1
u/ImportantSignal2098 17h ago
I have a few decades of driving experience. I know the rules and likely am a better driver than you are. It just doesn't make the choice to use the stop sign there less dumb. Have you tried using your brain before talking? Given that you're struggling with that, I'm guessing that you haven't considered that foreigners and newcomers can legally drive in other countries without being educated there. Please use your brain.
1
u/xAPPLExJACKx 16h ago
You sound exactly like my driver ed teacher who crashed 4 cars in three years
Foreigners should look up local the traffic laws when traveling. It's expected of me if I go to different country heck it's expected everyone even if you stay within the USA
1
u/ImportantSignal2098 15h ago
Foreigners should look up local the traffic laws when traveling
Does that contradict what I said?
You sound exactly like someone who has no brain and tries to "win arguments" - good luck with that. Just be aware that most people don't care about your opinions and expectations. You made zero difference by talking - you can't even reason, why would I care what you have to say? Go touch some grass.
1
u/xAPPLExJACKx 15h ago
Bro your name is important signal you get confused by stop sign.
1
u/ImportantSignal2098 14h ago
It's an auto-generated username, kiddo. Can you quote the comment where I said I was confused? Imagine talking when you can't even read.
9
u/bpaulauskas 23h ago
School buses have laws surrounding them to protect the kiddos getting off. So on a smaller road like above, both directions of traffic are required to stop when the bus has its red lights/stop sign out. Pretty simple reason really, small children and safety.
On roads with more lanes in can be only your lane of travel has to stop, but not in OPs video.
7
u/jillvalenti3 23h ago
All lanes have to stop unless there’s a divider/median. In that case, only opposing traffic can continue driving.
2
u/bpaulauskas 23h ago
I think it’s number of lanes in a lot of states, not based on dividers or medians. Ohio, for example, is a state where on a 4 lane road (regardless of divider/median) only the buses direction of travel has to stop.
→ More replies (1)3
u/jillvalenti3 23h ago
It’s crazy that a bus would even let a kid off on a 4-lane road instead of pulling into a side street 😔 as always, there’s still room for improvement here in the land of the free
3
u/JNavy1974 22h ago
Some areas there isn't a side street near by for them to pull off of. Especially in rural areas.
3
u/jillvalenti3 20h ago
This is based my experience living in the Northeast, so someone chime in if I’m wrong about this.
There’s typically not gonna be a four-lane road in a rural area, and if there’s the need for that many lanes, you’ll usually have side streets for business and/or housing.
Where there’s rural area with houses few and far between, kids are usually dropped off at their driveways.
2
u/bpaulauskas 23h ago
Haha right??? Honestly we do have so much work to do.
I think it begins with how car focused our country is. I’m so jealous of European countries where they have the walkable cities and great public transit
1
u/jillvalenti3 20h ago
Even South America has a better transportation system than us 🙃 we have a lot to learn
-27
u/SlimLacy 23h ago
In America kids can't learn traffic rules, so instead of teaching children things, the bus can flip out stop signs and everyone has to stop.
Yes, it's strangely uniquely a US issue.16

11
6
u/Melodic-Control-2655 23h ago
You notice how the kid that did get out immediately ran across the street without looking anywhere? Kids are like that, no matter what traffic laws you teach them.
-2
u/Special-Bowler-983 23h ago
Which is expected if everyone has to stop and these are the rules.
In most of Europe, this isn’t the law, yet we don’t drive over kids all day every day? You can teach them. (Although, where I live most kids go by bike and not with the bus).
I do get the rule tho, it is a safe option. But kids will adapt to the rules which are told to them.
3
u/SlimLacy 23h ago
And I find it funny everyone is so diehard about this, when it's a video of a car not stopping and a kid running into the road without looking. Had 2 geniuses been present in that video, this could've gone a whole lot worse, but I guess their system cannot be improved upon. Making it uniquely American.
6
u/Special-Bowler-983 23h ago
Which would be the same in Europe if we implemented this rule long time ago.
Everyone acts and learns to the rules applicable. Or breaks those rules. And if the rule is you have to stop because kids can whatever they do, not stopping is really dangerous.
Would be the same if you showed a video of someone not giving way to the cyclist from the right and almost hitting the cyclist. Americans wouldn’t get it because they don’t know this rule, while us European will be quite clear about it.
-4
u/SlimLacy 23h ago
American kids*
Countries with far less traffic accidents than the US don't have these rules.6
u/Turdburp 23h ago
Canada has the same rules as America. Why are you so weirdly perturbed by this?
4
u/YuenglingsDingaling 22h ago
Cause Europeans have to shit on anything different from the way they do it.
0
u/SlimLacy 22h ago
They also happen to be American, dear American. I know it's confusing, but American kids actually cover a lot more than the US.
Also yes, I am aware like 3 other countries besides the US implements the same system to very limited effect.
US Americans just cry so much more satisfyingly when you say uncivilized.
2
4
u/NotDrunkJustBigB0ned 23h ago
Most countries have people who stand in the middle of the road to stop traffic for children to cross.
1
u/samiwas1 15h ago
As much as adult pedestrians and bicyclists whine about not having fully protected spaces to walk/ride/cross, I don’t think this has anything to do with american kids.
15
u/SquidBilly5150 23h ago
This messes me up all the time. Busses around here will sit stopped with kids ready to go and just their yellows.
You creep along because they haven’t initiated the stop and then boom red.
Driver coulda stopped, sure but this is something the bus needs to address.
Before all you bitches chime in; I know the reds come on when the door opens. I’m saying as soon as the bus stops; red. Not idle yellow.
8
u/Prior_Researcher_492 21h ago
If you see a bus with flashing lights and kids clearly standing outside. Your ass should stop and wait regardless. Ive seen a few people in my neighborhood just ignore the bus when Im getting my daughter on the bus in the mornings and nothing pisses me off more.
1
2
u/Jonnyflash80 19h ago
Just stop and wait anyway. There's zero reason to be in a hurry when school busses and kids are involved. Use some common sense.
1
u/SquidBilly5150 13h ago
Where I’m talking is on 4 lane roads. The kids are ABSOLUTELY not crossing over. The school has perfectly planned their route for drop off and pickup as such.
However as you’re cautiously coming down the other side, no median, you are legally required to stop yes.
So you’re point car…some jackass behind you is going because it’s well, yellow. I’ve seen people get rear ended because of this when the driver was legally allowed to cautiously move forward. And as a human with a brain there is a very small chance the child will do a sprint across 3 lanes of traffic to run in front of me.
On a 2 lane like this? Yea sure just hit the brakes and chill for a second and double so because this kid is crossing the road
2
u/PrometheanEngineer 22h ago
Fun fact, my towns short buses use the same lights whether stopped or stopped with the sign out.
Youre okay to pass with just the lights.
Makes going around a nightmare, especially since short busses tend to deal with disabled children and take far longer at stops. I like quadruple check myself everytime before passing
30
u/theCOLLECTOR7250 23h ago
there is honestly nothing more satisfying than seeing someone do something that stupid and dangerous and immediately getting lit up by a cop. instant karma at its finest😅😌
31
u/zebttv 23h ago
Except I’d hardly call that instant karma. The buses have yellow lights first and then red lights when the stop sign comes off the bus. Def doesn’t look like a video where they blatantly fly by.
The stop sign isn’t even out when the guy passes by and then it pops out midway. Looks more to me like an awkward situation

This bus driver chose to really mess with that guy. The stop sign and him passing was almost synchronous. No foul
7
u/SMYYYLE 23h ago
Idk, im probably going to get downvoted to hell but i find this useless. Never seen this rule in EU and it works fine without it. Just make sure to pass slowly. Kids need to learn when its safe to cross the street. What are they doing if there is no bus that stopps the traffic?
Just look at the kid in the blue jacket, simply running across the street without even being careful..
6
u/NedShah 23h ago
Up until just very recently, North American roads are built with the intent of moving as many cars as possible as quickly as possible. It's cheaper and faster to legislate a safety zone around the bus than it is to relocate and redesign crosswalks.
3
u/MankyBoot 22h ago
Not to mention this rule applies to buses on country roads as well, where there are no crosswalks for obvious reasons.
2
u/Gruenpfeil 21h ago
The German StVO (traffic regulations) requires drivers to pass with particular caution and at walking speed (generally under 10 km/h). Traffic rules differ from country to country, so not having a specific rule prohibiting passing a school bus is perfectly acceptable.
1
u/SMYYYLE 21h ago
Ich weiß, hier hält sich aber auch nur selten jemand dran.
1
u/Gruenpfeil 21h ago
Tja, weil die Polizei kein Bock hat auf Kontrollen und auch die Bußgelder um den Faktor 5 zu gering sind.
5
u/FunCryptographer3476 23h ago
The drivers are all by definition adults who are responsible for their actions, so we create rules the adults have to follow.
The kid running across the street without looking is the natural state of kids, we teach them not to but some will always make a mistake and those kids don't deserve to die or be injured because they made a mistake.
5
u/Turdburp 23h ago
And the rule works fine in the US and Canada, so why do so many Europeans care? I don't give a fuck about the rules in Denmark.
1
u/SlimLacy 21h ago
Now that seems rather targeted.
"works fine" *Looks nervously at your traffic fatality rates* And yes, I'mma ignore the Canadian one, because obviously more than 1 thing is wrong with the US traffic hellscape.
1
u/orgin_org 23h ago
Yeah, different cultures and different mindsets.
I guess having careless children that aren't taught the dangers of traffic combined with having idiot drivers simply needs other types of rules.
2
u/cheesepuff1993 22h ago
Having a pre-schooler has made me realize there is no guarantee that they will always remember the rules or even if they do, sometimes other things override their thought process. I teach my kid to look both ways and acknowledge to me if any cars are coming, but I've also seen him almost sprint across a street because he got excited about seeing his grandparents.
Kids are emotional and excited little creatures. You can teach them every good thing possible, but they will inevitably screw up at some point. Adults, on the other hand, should not be in the same mindset and definitely should be the cautious ones. Especially when driving a 3000lb metal object...
1
u/MankyBoot 22h ago
In the US having the bus stopped with the lights on and the sign out means it is safe to cross. Or that is the idea. Don't blame the kids because the driver didn't stop.
I think this all came about because when you let a 5 year old off the bus and they get down to the street and see their mom across the way waiting for them they tend to rush out. A 5 year old after their first day of school can't be trusted to be smart and we decided we didn't like them being dead.
1
1
u/Gibbie42 11h ago
You noticed where this child was let off yes? Rural, small town, no light, no crosswalk, just a spot on the other side of the road they need to be, reasonable amount of traffic coming. There is no place to really safely cross. This is why we have the laws we do about busses, because a lot of kids get on and off busses in places like this. Mornings in winter often times are getting on the bus in the dark, an even more dangerous crossing. It hurts no one to have drivers stop for a school bus.
3
u/thefearinoculum 23h ago

Looking left and right needs to be muscle memory, safe zones are ideal for training that.
5
1
u/SlimLacy 21h ago
We just watched why you can't blindly rush onto a road, and that kid is definitely old enough to know better. If it was a 6 year old I'm all for sacrificing the mother to the torture that is the reddit comment judgement zone, but either that kids father is Goliath and she inherited his genes, or she is a good few years older than 6.
2
3
u/ZechFlare 21h ago
I find it wild how many people in the comments are defending a driver for breaking the law.
The red lights kicked in before they began to pass. While they did slow down, those are meant for you to stop, not slow down.
Just because kids should be aware when crossing and not every other country has the exact same rule, it doesn't completely absolve the person of getting pulled over.
I've never expected to see a place in reddit where something meant to protect kids gets turned into a debate/criticism. It hurts literally nobody to wait like a minute or two for a bus. Grow up.

While understanding the road rule, and agreeing it is effective, it would also be effective to teach kids to wait until the bus has left to cross when clear, so they don't get run over by the bus.
If the driver can't see you, hidden by the nose of the bus, it's very difficult for them to avoid you as they move off.
2
u/FreddieMonster 21h ago
The bus has a long metal arm that the children walk around so they can be seen by the bus driver. You can see it in this video.

-2
u/SlimLacy 23h ago
In the civilized world where a schoolbus doesn't shut down an entire road, you at a bare minimum look, before running into the road. Just in case someone doesn't care about your stop signs in the non-civilized world, maybe you should do that as well.
8
u/Tacosupmybutt 23h ago
Oh man you're gonna have a difficult time when you learn about red lights and pedestrian lights.
-1
u/SlimLacy 23h ago
Ironic considering my entire point is you should be taught these things far earlier in the US than when you're a teenager.
Ultra ironic since a car in the video we are responding to doesn't respect the stop sign as well.
I think maybe treating kids in America like they're all special needs is why America can't figure out their own rules and stop signs.
1
u/Tacosupmybutt 15h ago
Ironic? You're complaining that its "shutting down" a road. What do you think red lights and pedestrian lights do?
And guess what buddy people run red lights all the time, I guess we should get rid of those to? People should just yield to eachother cause that would be so much better!

Maybe put the onus on both. Clearly your stop sign didn't work here. And I've been in this sub long enough to know, this is FAR from an isolated case. And countries with far better traffic safety than the wild west the US is, don't have these silly rules.
But yes, lets pretend like an issue limited to the great US of A doesn't have anything the US could improve upon.

What is actually wrong with you that you are putting the responsibility of safety on children.
Seriously, I’m genuinely curious how you can’t see that we shouldn’t trust an 8 year old to be safe on their own.
So damn dumb that you are quadrupling down on the worst take.

Jesus 8? I'd maybe have given you that at up to 6 you'd have a good point a guardian should accompany them, but 8? Is it all the flouride in your water or something?
As I said, it's uniquely an American issue/solution to use those silly stop signs on a bus and your safety statistics in traffic sure as shit doesn't seem to warrant anyone listen to you guys about how to deal with traffic.
Edit: I'll never understand the point of responding and then blocking. Is it solely the "ha now it looks like they stopped responding and it is my victory!!!"?

u/bpaulauskas 23h ago
Just so we are clear. You are saying that 8 years olds around the globe know everything they need to know about safety and can be trusted alone, except for us uncivilized Americans.
Thank you for making it crystal clear that you are here in bad faith trying to justify your hate boner

Their parent is in the middle of the road, indicating that it is safe to cross. Just admit your mistake and stop acting like a clown.

Last thing mom sees is a car about to drive out and she barely reacts to her kid flying by.... I'm sure had the mom not been there it'd have been waaaay different. Excuse me for not putting too much stock in that non-argument.

u/lifeistrulyawesome 22h ago
Are you 8 or something? Just admit your error and move on.
I'll say it again: there is no shame in not being familiar with the customs of other countries. But it is very pathetic to double down on your ignorant takes after someone else explains your error. I'm sure a proud Dane like yourself can understand that.

u/SlimLacy 22h ago
I'll repeat myself, but come back when your traffic safety statistics couldn't be mistaken for armed conflict ones.
Also, wrong? I think this is idiotic, it's an opinion.

Yes, you are wrong.
The Danish traffic death rate is 2.3 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. I live in Quebec, where it is 4.1 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. In the US, it is 11 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. The Ukrainian war zone death rate is estimated to be around 300-400 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. So when you said that the US has a death rate comparable to the Ukrainian war zone, you were objectively incorrect.
I do agree with you that northern European countries have some of the safest roads in the world. But that is completely irrelevant to our conversation.
Maybe you are trying to insinuate that Denmark is safer because kids know how to look before crossing the street. That is categorically not true. One of the key pillars of road safety policy in Denmark is to build infrastructure under the assumption that kids don't behave that way. Denmark's roads are safer because they are designed better.
You live in a safe country. That doesn't make you knowledgeable. Your assessment of the current situation demonstrated that you are ignorant of how roads outside Denmark work.
You don't have to feel shame for being ignorant. If you don't travel a lot, there is no reason for you to understand the differences between Denmark and other countries. Some people are happy without knowing anything apart from their immediate vicinity.
But now that people have explained your error to you, the only intelligent and dignified response is to admit your ignorance and take this as a learning opportunity.

You need to realize the bus driver isn’t letting her off the bus until it is safe to cross. She gets off the bus well after the guy blew the stop sign.

u/SlimLacy 22h ago
I've seen enough videos on here to know that definitely is as safe as naked wrestling with hippos.

u/Minute_Tart_8259 22h ago
Your solution must be for children to never cross the street because it’s never truly safe. Or you’re just spiraling instead of admitting you’re wrong. Maybe both.
0
u/SlimLacy 22h ago
Yes, that is my solution. Split the US up in small pockets surrounded by impassable roads and may the best man win.

Lol, there is nothing uncivilized about a rule that requires cars to stop when kids are about to cross the street. Just acknowledge that you were ignorant on the matter and move on.
There is no shame in not knowing the road rules from a different country. But there is shame in acting like a douchebag after someone explains them to you.

u/SlimLacy 23h ago
Being called uncivilized really ruffles you guys feather huh?
Come back when your traffic safety statistics don't resemble the Ukranian frontline from the Russian side and maybe I'll consider listening to you regarding traffic safety.
Unkind regards, a Dane.

u/ytilonhdbfgvds 23h ago
Actually no one really cares what you think, it didn't ruffle anyone's feathers. Just makes you look ignorant is all.

I'm not even from the US. I lived in the US for a few years, but not anymore. So you are not calling me uncivilized.
You are shaming Denmark's good name with your attitude.

no they are right. How do they think roads work without a guardian bus driving around after them?
No other country I know does this.
5
u/Minute_Tart_8259 23h ago
Your point is this would’ve been dumb if there wasn’t a school bus?
0
u/Humble-Reply228 22h ago
yes, exactly. Building a habit of running onto a road without looking is dumb. I don't cross a pedestrian crossing with a green man without looking and this child has been taught to have absolute faith in administrative controls.

I love this video. I think it shows so much. The dumbass driver has plenty of time to stop but just casually drives right through when the bus is in the process of stopping. The cop just magically appears. He is probably following the school bus just for something like this. He sees the dumbass driver and either the driver sees the cop and knows he messed up or the copper has a great big grin on his face and is waving the driver over. Then there is the mother or the person waiting for the child getting off the bus. When the bus is stopped they actively go to get the kid and is watching traffic at the same time. The BEST part is the kiddo has no idea that anything else is going on and is soooooo damn happy to be home.

They need to start revoking drivers licenses for passing school busses during a stop

Because kids can come from either side of the road to get on the bus so traffic on both sides must stop and wait until the red lights stop flashing before they can go.

Because kids need to cross the street

Kids as young as 3 years old ride school buses here, and many of them get picked up or dropped off in areas with no crosswalks. Cars yielding to stopped school buses is an additional safety precaution to help reduce the chances of an accident. Not all 3 year olds are going to be 100% compliant with road safety rules.
-3
u/Special-Bowler-983 23h ago
But wondering, what will happen when the kids are going to the stop before the bus arrives and have to cross the street?
Do they learn to watch traffic in that scenario or do they cross the same way?
4
u/Jason2890 22h ago
That would be up to the discretion of the parents. Some kids opt to wait on the opposite side of the street until the bus arrives and cross safely once the stop sign and lights from the bus are active. Some of the more mature children might cross the street beforehand by obeying normal pedestrian traffic rules and wait on the appropriate side for the bus.
Keep in mind too that buses are large and can obscure the vision of the children if they’re trying to cross the street in front of the bus. So these precautions just help mitigate the risk of injury/accidents since children may not necessarily be able to see oncoming traffic as well as they would be able to if the bus wasn’t there.

It’s very common that where the kids are dropped off there’s no crosswalks, and the bus doesn’t turn around to let them off on the side they need to be on, so when the bus stops, everyone stops to let the kids get home as safely as possible.

Gotta give them the benefit of the doubt that they're literate in West Virginia.

Making fun of rural poor people is hilarious if you're a 13 year old or have the mentality of one. Do an inbred/meth joke next.

WV is ranked 50th in edumacation. Don’t get me started on where they rank for drug overdoses and welfare dependency.
Don’t let facts hurt your feels.

Violating driver saw flashing yellows on bus from much farther than needed to know to stop. Way too much sympathy for the offending driver here in my book.

u/Head_Ad_1643 22h ago
If that resulted in a ticket, that cop is a dickhead.
-1
u/GracchiBros 22h ago edited 19h ago
You're right. This person slowed down and was passing slowly when the yellow lights where on and the red lights/stop sign didn't go until they were next to it. I could see warning them, but writing a ticket would be a dick move.
And downvotes you can't even defend don't change that kids.
-1
u/Head_Ad_1643 21h ago
Honestly stopping them at all is kinda a dick move. Maybe the cop just had a bad angle and couldn't see but im sure that didnt stop him from claiming they had a perfect view.
