Ok since there’s been discussion on architecture here lately, I thought I’d rant about my opinion. I am not an architect, but I seriously do believe the Frankish period in Cyprus is massively overlooked and under-appreciated. It’s as if we don’t see it as our history. So, I think new additions in the centre of Nicosia are disrespectful to the history of the town (new town hall, new St Barnabas Cathedral, Plateia Eleftherias, Museum of Contemporary Art). All these buildings fail to engage with the vernacular of the historical landmarks which they are meant to complement- Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios Mansion (gothic x ottoman), Venetian Walls, Famagusta Gate (renaissance). So here are some AI enhanced versions based on some sketches I made.

As I have been saying for the past 3 days, there is a very interesting element of Greece in this whole shipwreck incident.

- The ship was repaired and/or converted into mishimou “brand new” status at the Perama shipyard of Greece.

- It was kept idle in Greece for many years.

- It was put into circulation in the Dodecanese but soon after it broke down again.

- The Greek owners desperately wanted to get rid of this ship.

- They tried to sell it to Turkey but the Turkish Lloyd didn’t give it a class and their surveillance reports stated clearly that the operations it went through in Greece were not satisfactory. They identified 29 different points that needed to be fixed in June 2018, further to be verified in their second report they published in December 2018.

- The Greek owners finally managed to sell it to a Turkish Cypriot company, most probably through Turkish intermediaries.

- Internationally speaking, the last flag that the ship was under was the Greek flag. It then went under the TRNC flag which is obviously not recognized by IMO. So we can probably say that the ship that sunk off the coast of Kyrenia on 30/08/26 was Greek flagged.

- The Turkish captain of the ship had his Turkish license expired more than a decade ago. But he stated that it was difficult for him to go through the whole renewal process in Turkey. There are interesting claims that Greek authorities helped him get accreditation for a Honduras license for which he paid 3,500 Euros (not to Honduras probably but to the Turkish and Greek intermediaries in between).

- And it is with the endorsement of Greece that the internationally unrecognized TRNC authorities are said to have approved the captain’s license. Why? Because Turkey does not recognize the licenses of Honduras. But seems like Greece does, following an endorsement process.

All this info is based on research from open sources online, as well as the testimonies given earlier today at the Kyrenia court.

I just put them in writing in my personal capacity, so that everyone can be on the same page.

Great case for an investigative journalism story for anyone who is interested to pursue it further and verify all the details.

All this is directly linked to someone who takes every opportunity to call people like myself who are fervently supporting a federal solution to the Cyprus Problem, “Grecofili” or “Rumcu” in Turkish. Next time someone tries to insult you, in any way, for wanting a federal solution to the CyProb, make sure you check what kind of benefits they are making behind the scenes.

So today I was reading about the "barrio gótico" of Barcelona, and how a large portion of it was a neohgothoc embellishment that went on during the 19th and 20th century.

Then, an Idea struck my mind: what if Nicosia tried to go back to its gothic roots? As you might know Cyprus arguably has the richest gothic style tradition, out of any country in south eastern Europe and the levant. All that comes down to the lusignan dynasty and its legacy.

The whole concept is that Nicosia (a unified one hopefully) could try and build (or rebuild) houses in some neighborhoods in the characteristic "Cypriot gothic style".

Thankfully , a few sparse medieval houses , still exist in Nicosia, but not in a cohesive manner. The reason is that a lot of the medieval facades were replaced in the 20th century, with the typical neoclassical design that we see in old Nicosia today.These survivors (as well as some houses from the Old city of Rhodes), served as inspiration for the painting I created.

People in Cyprus, I need some advice because apparently getting paid for freelance work is optional now 🙃

I’m a freelancer and a Cyprus-based management agency hired me to provide marketing/social media services for one of their creators

The agreed project fee was $460, split into two payments. I received the first $230

I completed and delivered the work. They actually pushed me to deliver earlier than originally planned

The remaining $230 is now outstanding

I’ve followed up with the person who hired me twice on WhatsApp about the remaining payment, and he’s stopped responding

I’m trying to figure out what legitimate options I have before I simply write off the money

I believe the agency uses Revolut for business payments, although I’m not 100% sure about their setup

For anyone familiar with Cyprus:

Is there an official place to report a business over an unpaid freelance invoice?

Is there a relatively inexpensive way to pursue a small unpaid business debt?

Can someone who doesn't live in Cyprus pursue a claim against a Cyprus-based company?

Is there anything I can do regarding a company's Revolut business account, or is this strictly a civil/contract matter?

Is there a small-claims procedure that would make sense for something around $230?

I’m not trying to create some massive internet drama over $230. It’s still money I earned, and I delivered what I was hired to deliver

And honestly, if this is something the agency does to freelancers repeatedly, I’d rather know what legitimate action exists instead of just letting it slide
