DISCUSSION Am I doing wrong by using Hyprland + Arch
Hello guys I was looking for some support, in various Linux communities I’ve seen some hate to people that use Arch and Hyprland, I love it it’s great, I joined to Linux because I wanted my desktop to look like that, blurred anime girls everywhere. but now I’m seeing so much hate, people saying we are larpers, and other stuff I have tried Niri and KDE plasma but I didn’t liked the workflows and in the case of KDE I feel a lot of bloat, also I was thinking on moving to Gentoo NixOs or LFS but I feel like Arch and Hyprland just work how I want to work, do I really need to change?

Bro its YOUR system if you are happy with it it's fine. Edit: just don't give a fuck what others say it is they're opinion and not yours and in this case only your's matter.

why do you care what the world thinks? Btw i absolutely hate hyperland and ricing and all the pointless bs but why do you care ? Is your mind so easly influenced? well yes cause you chose hyperland and the anime girls but i think you should work on a more important distro : you, grab a book i recomand the stoics authors (greek 2k years ago still true today)

I got called a larper because I made a program that I spent well over 1000 hours on simply because it had animations which is antithetical to a lot of Linux users that strive for zero bloat.
that said, I think a lot of especially new Linux users kinda get funneled into thinking Hyprland is the only game in town so you see a lot of "Arch + Hyprland + Noctalia" (and Quickshell for some reason) as a package deal, but Fedora + Mango + Noctalia works just as fine and Hyprland's eye candy features has long since been reimplemented in the competitors.

If you like it that’s all that matters. I used that exclusively for two years. I hate the anime girls but love a clean snappy tiling experience that just is inconvenient to do anywhere else

Thank you very much guys! I’m a person who gets affected easily by what other say, it really matters to me, really thank you very much.

Remove yourself from hateful communities --> problem solved. Use whatever you like.

Linux doesn't "look like that" - it looks like what you want it to look...
Maybe you were just unable to change your windows wallpaper to what you wanted and thought that a completely different operating system was the only way to get rid of that green rolling hill....
do I really need to change?
You just need to grow up and stop crying about what others think.

The reason you will have sensed a certain ... let's say 'dismissal' of users such as yourself is because there has, over the last year or two, been an influx of naive users ('noobs') jumping on Arch, because they've heard it's good for 'ricing' ... who aren't technically minded and have (initially at least) little-to-no intention of becoming so ... which, on a distro like Arch (intended specifically for people to build, from the ground up, into their own, custom, system) ... is not going to be very much respected by a lot of the userbase - it is, by definition, not for naive users: unless you want a baptism of fire, and to learn everything the really hard way, you need a minimum level of technical knowledge and experience to get the most out of it, and you have to be prepared to do a lot of reading (on the wiki), not simply copy/paste commands from websites/'AI', before coming here and asking for help (which many, if not most, of that influx don't).
You should probably also note that LFS is not a distro - it's a teaching/learning project. The only way someone would contemplate 'moving to' it is if they were:
- ignorant of that fact (hadn't even read about it and weren't yet aware of it).
- wealthy (or had a wealthy family) and could afford to spend all day, every day, keeping an eye on every single security announcement for every single element of their OS (from the kernel to ls) in order to make sure their system weren't vulnerable in some obscure (but significant) way.
- such an advanced user (likely an actual computer scientist) that they wouldn't be posting about this here in the first place.
By all means, investigate it, give it a try, learn useful and interesting things as a result, but ... unless you really are '3' ... my advice would be not to try running it as a daily drive.

No, technically hyprland was initially officially supported on NixOS and was hackier to install it on other distros but I assume now it is seamless. Personally I use i3 more being stuck on X11 for unrelated reasons so idk the details, in principle if installation and use is easy then there is no problem.
The aesthetic of twm is the defining modern Linux one and the only thing that makes it unique, KDE feels familliar to Windows users and that is why they enjoy it, objectively it is bloated and doing too much. The main issue with the mass adoption of twm like hyprland is not enough hand holding as KDE or mainstream DEs, for example still not having a standardized GUI settings tool, asking newbs to jump into config files to set up basic things like key bindings or idk, refresh rate is the elitist part of twm that create the dislike from casual users.

Being concerned about this is the real sign of a larper. It's your computer. Why do you care about anyone's opinion about your UX except your own?
