I came across a post lately on someone talking about banning some Rhodesian meme coin. Like that person, and most of you here, I have also come across the whole "Rhodesia good, Zimbabwe bad" schtick. I used to get into heated debates on Twitter and Facebook with some of those people because it rubbed me the wrong way. It doesn't affect me now because a friend explained to me how to view this whole thing. It's a long read, so please bear with me.
The first thing you need to understand is that most of these people do not care about your perspective as a black person. To them, you're just a thing at worst, more akin to cattle or furniture, or a K*** at best. The correct society is one in which you ( Monkey, Kaffir, or Darkie. Insert your insult of choice) live in some Tribal Trust Land in the middle of nowhere( unless you have a job in the city; if they deem you worthy of having one), you're satisfied with your little hot, tin-house in Mbare or Makokoba, don't have any aspirations beyond working for low wages in a factory or some white man's house, are quite comfortable with being called "Boy", "Girl", or "Native" and you're happy to give over your voting rights to some chief who you know serves at the pleasure of the white man's government and thus doesn't really represent you. I could go on with all the vile things they practised back then but most of you know this already. The best amongst them have a sort of benevolent contempt for you (they will drive you to the doctor when you're sick. The dog will sit in the front seat whilst you're in the back of the bakkie). The worst amongst them have nothing but hate for you (they have no problem calling you Kaffir followed by a swift kick to whatever part of your body is exposed is within reach). Either way, it's clear that they are not people you should be giving much thought to. You should be glad that they are not in a position to turn the clock back and Lord it over you like they did back then. (This is mostly true at the time of this writing).
They are very right when they say that ZANU PF destroyed the country. They are right when they bring up the fact that ZANU PF has made the country into the basket case it is. And they are right when they say that the economy was in a better state then. These facts are important, but how they use them is what you should pay attention to. If you look at their groups, they bond over two things: celebrating all that is rotten about Zimbabwe ( because it validates their theory on us being as less than them and so worthy of being ruled in that brutal fashion) and harping on about how great Rhodesia was. Whether young and old, they have nothing to cherish within their social circles except for Schadenfreude (deriving pleasure from someone's misfortune) and nostalgia.
But nomatter how nostalgic they are, they have to go to bed knowing that the chances that their little paradise of a country will come back range from miniscule to non-existent. They compensate for that by taking pleasure in our suffering. And in their twisted minds, the appropriate response for us to that suffering is for us to regret ending that colonial regime and to beg, on our knees, for its return. But unlike them, we still have our country, shitty as it is. We argue on this subreddit about its problems with the hope that we will fix them one day. We do so because we recognize that our country exists; it's a physical reality. We have hope, all that they have is nostalgia (if they are old) and fantasy (if they are young).
Edit: There are some of you that see this as an anti-white rant or have taken it that way. I am not anti-white. I am specifically anti-Rhodie. If you, as a white person, don't know who Clem Tholet is, the lyrics to "Rhodesians never die", the lyrics to "It's a long way to Mukumbura", or have no understanding of what "Slotting Floppies in the sun" means, then you're probably not a Rhodie. Likewise, if you do happen to know what all the above means but aren't a fan of any of it. The rant has nothing to do with anything happening next door. Its a public response to one of our members who posted something about banning a Rhodesian meme coin.

Just over a week ago, I shared the manifesto and architecture for Centrigon, my attempt to build what I call Species-Agnostic Intelligence.
One of the core ideas behind the architecture is that intelligence isn't something you start with. It's something that develops through a progression:
Experience → Pattern → Concept → Abstraction → Merge
Earlier this week, I ran the first public demo where that progression appeared in a single session.
The demo ran for approximately 102 seconds, and using only a live webcam and microphone feed, the system formed 6 concepts from recurring multimodal patterns. Those concepts were then recognized on recurrence, strengthened through repeated exposure, promoted into higher abstractions, and in some cases merged when the system determined they represented the same underlying pattern.
The interesting part for me wasn't that concepts formed. It was that they didn't remain isolated. They developed. More importantly, when similar patterns reappeared, the system recognized existing concepts and strengthened them instead of creating new ones from scratch.
A lot of the discussion around AI focuses on bigger models and bigger datasets. I am approaching the learning process from a different angle:
What happens if understanding is allowed to emerge from experience instead of being pretrained?

Yes, it is illegal to sell stuff everywhere.
But is it okay to chase them away. NO.
Most Zimbabweans live by vending. Which means that if their source of income is threatened or eradicated, the consequences would be catastrophic.
It can lead to civil unrest
Increase crime
Mass exodus from urban settlements which will affect other business like rent transport etc.
With limited resources in the rural settlements, the people returning will break the resources altogether.

Yes, the law is the law and should be followed. But a proper solution implemented wrongly makes it all look wrong.

Varun Beverages Zimbabwe will on September 20 begin the first phase of its much-anticipated partnership with Danish brewing giant Carlsberg, with the local company set to import and distribute the global beer brand ahead of local manufacturing next year.
The development will introduce a new player into Zimbabwe’s beer market, setting the stage for increased competition with Delta Corporation, the country’s dominant brewer.
The arrangement forms part of a wider agreement between Varun Beverages Limited and Carlsberg covering the sale and distribution of the brewer’s products in Africa, with Zimbabwe identified as the first phase of the rollout.
Varun Beverages Zimbabwe’s chief executive officer, Vijay Kumar Bahl, said the company would leverage its established distribution infrastructure to bring the Carlsberg brand closer to consumers across the country.
“Over the years, Varun Beverages Zimbabwe has built a strong, multi-layered route-to-market and distribution network, supported by people, infrastructure and execution capabilities, reaching customers across the country,” Mr Bahl said.
“We now look forward to putting that distribution strength behind a globally recognised beer brand and bringing it closer to Zimbabwean consumers.”
The September rollout represents the first stage of an agreement that is expected to culminate in local production of Carlsberg beer once Varun completes construction of its planned brewing facility.
The company has committed US$250 million towards establishing the beer plant in partnership with Carlsberg, an investment that is expected to create at least 2,500 jobs.
The entry of Carlsberg through Varun also extends the rivalry between the two companies beyond the soft drinks market.
Varun is already a significant player in Zimbabwe’s beverages industry through its soft drinks manufacturing and distribution operations, while Delta remains the country’s market leader in beer.
The arrival of an internationally recognised beer brand could therefore reshape competition in a sector that has traditionally been dominated by Delta’s extensive portfolio.
The first phase will allow Varun and Carlsberg to establish the brand in the market while preparations for local production continue.
Mr Bahl previously described the distribution agreement as the beginning of a broader expansion strategy that would eventually see Zimbabwe become a key manufacturing base for the Carlsberg brand.
“Varun Beverages Ltd signed a sale and distribution agreement for beer with Carlsberg for Africa, including Zimbabwe as the first phase,” Mr Bahl said.
“In the second phase, manufacturing will be done in Zimbabwe with the successful launch of beer in the local market.”
The transition from imported products to locally manufactured beer is expected to take place once Varun completes the new plant, which is targeted for 2027.
The investment is also expected to deepen competition while increasing the range of beverages available to consumers and creating opportunities for local suppliers.
Economist Stephen Chifamba said the partnership could have implications beyond the beverages industry by attracting additional international investment into Zimbabwe.
“Varun’s partnership with Carlsberg could attract further international interest in Zimbabwe’s beverages industry, reinforcing the country’s position as a regional manufacturing hub for Southern Africa,” he said.
The planned manufacturing facility could also position Zimbabwe as a potential export base for Carlsberg products into regional markets.
For Varun, the project represents an expansion from its established soft drinks operations into beer, while for Carlsberg, the partnership provides an established route into the Zimbabwean and wider African markets.
The September 20 launch will therefore provide an important test of consumer demand for the brand ahead of the transition to local production.
Once manufacturing begins, the project is expected to further integrate the beverages value chain, with local production creating demand for agricultural inputs and other locally sourced materials.
The US$250 million investment consequently represents a significant new entrant into Zimbabwe’s beverages sector, with the September distribution launch providing the first visible stage of an expansion that could culminate in local beer production in 2027.

Hey everyone,
So I'm working on a project to improve speech-to-text for Shona and I need a LOT of clean transcripts from radio audio to make it happen. The idea is pretty simple: grab radio recordings, run them through an existing transcription model, then have people vanonyatsogona Shona and vanoziva all the mupanda to go through and fix the mistakes. Those corrected transcripts then get used to fine-tune the model. Rinse and repeat until the model gets good.
Here's my problem — I need a ton of transcribed audio hours and my Shona is honestly not good enough to do it myself or even properly check someone else's work.
My current plan:
Hit up first-year students at the University of Zimbabwe, pay them per hour of audio transcribed. They probably wouldn't mind some extra cash, and it's work they can do from anywhere. Seems reasonable to me but I genuinely don't know if I'm missing something obvious.
Stuff I'm not sure about:
Would love to hear from anyone who's done annotation or data collection work, or anyone in general who has thoughts. Open to completely scrapping my approach if there's a better way!

I’m relatively new to the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange (VFEX), and I’d really appreciate some advice from people who actively invest or trade on the platform.
I’ve already opened my VFEX account, but I haven’t deposited any money yet because I want to understand the market properly before I start putting my money into it. I’m subscribed to the VFEX YouTube channel and I’ve been going through some of their content, but I feel like I still need more practical and in-depth information, especially from people who actually use the platform regularly.
For those who have experience with VFEX, What are the main things I should look out for before buying a stock? and Are there any common mistakes beginners make?

I heard as a country we have vision 2030 that aims to achieve an upper-middle-income economy through industrialization and infrastructure development creating jobs and wealth for ALL its citizens.
We can give credit where it is due, there has been some great strides in the stabilisation of our currency compared to what was there before. Road rehabilitation and infrastructure development like the Mutare-Beitbridge Highway, Mabvuku Interchange and the Bulawayo- Victoria Falls Highway. Other than that there has not been anything more of significance you can point out as being a great leap towards the modernisation of our country.
The same structures are still there that have been ineffective for decades, instead of using a different approach in solving some of our day to day problems there is no innovation. What is there is acceptance of inadequacy and a system that fails to cater for the needs of the majority to please a small denomination of the population.
We take pride in saying we are an educated nation, my brothers and sisters we are taught how to read and write but lack critical thinking skills. We are taught how to be workers and not creators. I can take Mr Chivhayo for example he is a great philanthropist, its his money no one can tell a man how to spend their own money.
However, I always question if he is really a true nationalist why not create spaces where there can be 10 or 20 men and women he imparts knowledge to create wealth he has created that benefits all the sons and daughthers of our great nation.
Instead, we are on our way to becoming the next Nigeria, a nation of Beggers, where innovation is dead. It is now normalised in our society to beg for assistance even for the most basic of things. People do not want to work, we can blame the government for failing to create fair opportunities for its citizens and the same time we glorify the corrupt who are flamboyant in showing off their ill-gotten wealth.
We are stagnant. The world is moving and we are still holding on to the ideologies of our forefathers struggles who died for a Zimbabwe that in non existent captured by the East to benefit them whilst us the sons and daughters of the soil are destitutes of our old former masters who we removed from our homes, the irony in this is unmatched.
You can say development needs time but when colonisers came they built structures that we still use until today. If you love this nation we need to be bold in asking why are things are happening this way, our silence is their approval for continuation.

Hi everyone I’m kinda in a situation and not sure who to believe and what to do as I’m being told multiple different things. I came to Zimbabwe on my UK passport. I got my visa and been extending it every month for 6 months. During my amazing time in Zimbabwe I got my Zimbabwean birth certificate, Zimbabwean id and Zimbabwean passport.
I was told by some people at the department of immigration that I have to pay $500 dollars for permit residency for dual citizens to stay longer. However people at the civil registry (people that worked for citizenship and passport) said that as I’m a dual citizen I no longer need to pay and have no fear of overstaying as I’m a Zimbabwean citizen with a zim birth certificate, id and passport.
I’m not sure who to believe and what to do. The civil registry is telling me 1 thing and not to listen to the other and the department of immigration is telling me 1 thing. Do I need to pay 500 for the residency or not as I’m a dual citizen
Also when leaving Zimbabwe will I present both my UK passport and Zim passport at check in/Airline Counter then at border control I present my zim passport (stamping me out as a citizen leaving the country) and if they ask how I intend to enter UK that’s when I’ll show them my UK passport. Then at UK border control I’ll then show them UK passport entering as a British citizen?? Correct?
