I kept hearing a humming noise. Thought it was the bathroom fan, then i thought ive finally gone insane.

Nope! Just a freaking dirigible just taking a lap. Giving major Nemo and the adventures of Slumberland vibes!

Still questioning my sanity though, definitely the last thing id expect to see.

Can anyone else dislocate their joints like this?

no it doesn’t hurt at all, just feels a little weird holding my finger like a stick or something lol

EDIT: thank to everyone letting me know not to do this especially often! I definitely don’t want nerve & joint pain when I’m older..

A chicken born with four legs is an extremely rare condition that happens to about 1 in every 10 million chicks

Does anyone have good resources for weird pics?

I used to have a link to this image hosting website that was almost like an old bing and I couldn't search by terms on it but if I kept hitting refresh I could get any manner of weird pics to pop up.

It is much harder to do this on Google images as it functions today, not impossible but it is a lot more curated now.

Ad for something I *looked at* in store

Post image

I was in Ross earlier just browsing cause my wife wanted to look at a few things. One of the things I looked at while in the store was shoe inserts or insoles. Never said a word about them and didn't even end up buying any. I didn't have my phone out in the store until I got to the register to check out. I get home and open up Google to see this ad. I've gotten ads for things I spoken about before but never for something I only really thought about. Extremely weird.

I didn’t even select the “extra cutlery” option. Did I win the tissue paper lottery or is this a bad omen?

Because I feel so insulted by the “woodbird” post as a birdwatcher I'm gonna share some actually weird woodpecker facts

Post image

Fyi I did kinda copied some of my comment on the other post

Woodpeckers will use their bills in a variety of ways such as marking territory or making holes for nest but I'm sure some of this is already known. What isn't well known and is exceptionally weird is that this can end up damaging the bill to The point where the bills will start curving (image for reference) which of course leads to it is eventual death due to their inability to use their bills to get into trees. Another way they could die is getting their bills stuck in the tree however both of these kinds of deaths are rare.

They can also have tongues so long that woodpeckers similar size to that of a red bellied woodpecker (in banana terms the bird is maybe a little less then 2 bananas) will have a tongue twice its bill length (the bill is about the size of a stem of a banana so times that by 2). This is of course very useful to get the food that's deep in the tree.

Of course there's also different kinds of woodpeckers which all use their bills for different reasons such as a sap sucker which, as the name implies, eats sap but it doesn't make holes for nest like the others. If you've ever seen a tree that has a ton of little holes on a tree that don't look natural and look intentional well that was probably a sapsucker.

Edit: there's a name for the situation in the pic called “Avian keratin disorder.” thx to another commenter for informing us

Edit 2: since so many have talked about I’ll also mention that their tongue is even longer than what they pull out because it actually wraps around their brain to act like a shock absorber. Ik of the brain part (I forgot to mention it) but what I didn’t know was the reason why it’s like that. Kinda reminds me of the pokemon greninja for those that know what im talking about.

Edit 3: I just remembered another fact that I’ll add. Woodpeckers are actually related to toucans! Theres a pokemon line called pipipeck that evolves into toucannon and at the time I didn’t know why. Several years later I saw a video on facts about toucans and how they’re related to woodpeckers! Kinda makes with their big bills right?

Pigeons love hanging out by this estate near my house. What's going on?

Whenever I walk past this estate, I see loads of pigeons hanging out around that one spot on the wall. There's no food or water source I can see... they just seem to like sitting there.

Any idea what's going on?
