Housing/Roomates/Leases Decor rules in valley oaks?

Freshman here. Just moved into the new valley oaks building.

My roomate and I have been taking about possibly getting at doormat and maybe some small decorations for the outside of our door but im not sure whether or not that's allowed? I saw on the packing list that we cant put whiteboards on the outsides of our doors which seems like an odd rule. I didnt see any thing else about door decor on the list but I still want to be careful. Does anyone know if we are allowed?

Scholarships/Financial Aid No NetID to look at WMU Scholarship Universe

This is probably a common post here but, I am interested in applying for the Bronco Excellence Merit Scholarship. The thing is, is that from what I can find the application is on WMU Scholarship Universe, which I can't access without a NetID (something that I don't have because im not a student yet)

Housing/Roomates/Leases Dorm wallpaper rules?

Hey hey! I'm a freshman moving into Hadley hall soon, and the part I'm most excited for is decorating my room! I like to make rooms colorful, and of course I know that you can't paint your walls or anything like that. However, I was wondering about the stance on temporary wallpapers? The rules only specifically state no contact paper which makes sense because of damage, but what about cheap stick-on wallpaper that doesn't have nearly that much strength? I've seen people use this and just want to know if it's allowed here... thanks :')

Housing/Roomates/Leases Door decor?

Does WMU allow you to put things on the outsides of your doors? My roommate made cute little flags with our names & my cat’s name, but I don’t know if they let you put them outside facing the hall. I

Sports Western Michigan Football 2026 Preview - full writeup, two-deep, and win probabilities

Hey all. I spent the offseason building a full 2026 preseason preview for every FBS team, each with its own writeup. Here's the Western Michigan one

https://www.sports.mainmarket.com/college-football-preview-2026-fbs/western-michigan-broncos

It's got the returning production breakdown, the portal ins and outs, a projected two-deep, the schedule with model win probabilities, and a season projection.

Heads up, you might hit the paywall after the first page. Don't worry, I'm not charging reddit people for this, don't want to be an ass. Use the promo code LEECORSOROCKS and it opens up the entire thing.

So, what'd I get wrong? Western Michigan won the MAC, won the bowl 41-6, and finished dead last in the country in offensive explosiveness. 136th out of 136. You did it with a quarterback who ran for 963 yards and 14 touchdowns and a defense that was 4th in sacks and 9th in scoring. My model has you at 8-4 mostly because that 7-1 league record came with only a 37 yard per game edge. Does the formula hold up again?

I'll be in the comments.

Class/Academics How accessible are power outlets?

Hi, I'm going to be starting my first semester at WMU this fall and I just wanted to ask about how accessible power outlets are at lectures at the aviation and main campus? Do the lecture halls have power outlets on top of the desks for every seat or is it the type where you would need to specifically sit at a place where there is one? My laptop dies pretty quickly so I'd need to end up charging it pretty often which is why I'm concerned.

Hi! Does anyone have a copy of Introduction to Research in Education, 10th Edition by Ary, Jacobs, Sorensen Irvine & Walker (ISBN 9781337566001) that they’d be willing to sell or lend? I’m a new PhD student at WMU. Thank you!

Housing/Roomates/Leases Henry Hall Desks?

During fall move in I want to buy a 49 inch ultra wide monitor for my dorm ( my roommate knows about this) do the desks in Henry hall have any spots where you could potentially mount a monitor using an arm? My future roommate described his previous desk as being flat on all sides and therefore there wouldn’t be a spot to clamp to but I thought I should probably just ask here, thank you.

Community Any 127th guardsmen at WMU? Do you carpool over?

I'm enlisting at the 127th before starting classes at WMU for MINGSTAP, FTA, and internal UPT slot applications if I don't end up getting an airline CJO with one of the cadetships offered through the Flight Science program. Does anyone here serve at Selfridge? How do you commute to drill weekends? Does anyone carpool?

Sports Any places on campus to practice dance? or dance courses?

Hi! I’m new to WMU and I’m looking for somewhere on campus to practice dance, preferably a room with mirrors. I mostly do K-pop dance covers. Are there any studios or rooms that students can use or reserve?
Also, are there any K-pop or dance clubs on campus that are open to new members? I’d love to meet people who are also into dancing. Thanks!

Class/Academics Help! Switching Majors to Flight Sci.

I'm trying to switch my majors from Management and operations to flight science.

There are a few things I want to know from people who have made the switch.

I have a 3.6 GPA, the minimum 3.0. Is that competitive enough?

I'm having a really hard time drafting my bullet points. If anyone has any pointers or tips, I'd love to hear them. Especially if you're willing to share what you wrote. Whether you got in or not I believe it would help me vary much to hear what worked and didn't work.

Community transferring, have some questions for current students!

So I’m 19 and just finished my first year at a private catholic university. Loved it (though I’m not religious) but due to money reasons i am transferring. I am an incredibly late transfer because my family got our taxes redone (and they were JUST processed by fafsa after a lot of problems) and we found out it’s not financially feasible for me to continue at my university for another year. Hence, transfer.

First of all, i am curious as to the politics at this school. I am a queer woman (but not the type to join queer clubs or anything) and very liberal. I was wondering how accepting the culture is at this school, and if it’s widely accepting.

I’m also looking to rush (didn’t get to last year but wanted to) and i am looking for an actually accepting sisterhood that doesn’t haze .. lol. If anyone has any hazing/sorority experiences, good or bad, id love to hear it to get a frame of reference for if this is something id actually be a good fit for.

I’m also curious as to what the transfer student experience is like, and if other sophomore transfers have found the transition to be smooth and worthwhile. I’m leaving behind a huge support system at my old school and I’m feeling quite depressed about it, but i do plan to take any and all opportunities to find friends and community regardless, just wondering if wmu is fairly easy to make friends at.

I’m also pre med (bio major) and a dancer, if anyone wants to weigh in on those subjects or offer any other general advice/experience. I have no clue what housing would look like for me as a sophomore, so if anyone has any ideas about what would be good/bad for that, that would also be really helpful. I’d love to hear it all :)

Thank you!

Community Military-related admission deferral for Aviation Flight Sci?

I'm planning on going to BMT some time next summer to help cover tuition and flight fees. I'm finishing up some prereqs and part of an associates (state CC gave my graduating class some free credits) at the moment. I'm planning on applying for the Fall 2027 semester at WMU and hoping to defer admission till Fall 2028 so I can commit to a unit knowing that I've gotten into the program I want (I'm also looking at Kent st and a few others as backups).

I spoke to Stephanie Graves yesterday and was told "No, WMU does not allow Flight Science majors to defer their admission UNLESS they have already joined the military and get deployment orders or something like that. You cannot defer as a "just in case" and, please note, students who decline their admission to flight must re-apply and are very rarely allowed back in—it's too competitive". I'm planning on following up with admissions (her recommendation) to double check with my specific situation.

In the meantime, does anyone have any experience with military/boot camp related admissions deferrals at WMU?

Class/Academics Is there an actual requirement that business students have a Windows laptop?

This seems kind of bizarre to me, but I heard from another student that one of the accounting professors last Spring semester sent out an email the day before class started telling everyone to bring a Windows laptop to class to complete Excel spreadsheets in class, due at the end of class. I don't see how they can just assume that everyone is going to have a Windows laptop. Plus, if you're going to spending most of class working on Excel spreadsheets, why not just have the class in a computer lab?

Class/Academics Do I need a powerful laptop if I bring my desktop?

I’m going to be a freshmen engineering major in a few weeks and everyone always says engineering students need a laptop that can handle the engineering programs. I’m thinking since I’ve been using a MacBook that my mom no longer uses, could I get away with using that for notes, homework, in-class work, and keep my desktop in my dorm to handle the programs a Mac can’t?

Housing/Roomates/Leases Need help from Henry Hall residents!!

I'm staying in Henry Hall this upcoming semester. My dorm is single but the furniture is for two people, so I'm thinking of pushing the two beds together to make a king-sized mattress. Is this doable? Or would the bed frames get in the way? Thanks for any information!!
