[MEGATHREAD] Cancellation questions (please post here)

We’ve noticed that a lot of conversations about cancellation have come up in this sub. We’ve also noticed that sometimes those conversations can include inaccurate or misleading information that can sometimes make the process longer and more complicated.

So, we’ve created this pinned MEGATHREAD for all cancellation-related discussions and questions. This way, everyone can access the correct information and ask additional questions in one updated, transparent, and easy to find place.

Please use this thread for questions about cancelling your Vivint monitoring service, early termination or other fees related to your service agreement, equipment financing that might be handled through a third-party provider, or anything else related. Posts on these topics outside of this thread may be removed so we can keep the discussion centralized. If your post gets taken down, please repost your question here so the discussion stays organized and easier for everyone to find.

HOW TO CANCEL VIVINT SERVICES:

Customers wishing to cancel their Vivint services should call the Vivint Customer Service Team at 1-800-678-2635 for assistance.

Requests through any other outreach channel, including any contacts provided by AI-generated or other third-party search results, may delay processing of the request as we attempt to route the request to the Customer Service team for review.

You can learn more about Vivint’s cancellation policies at this link: https://support.vivint.com/article/Policy-Cancellation

Vivint Cancellation FAQ’s:

Q: How Do I Cancel My Vivint Service?

A: Customers wishing to cancel their Vivint services should call the Vivint Customer Service Team at 1-800-678-2635 for assistance. The Vivint Customer Service Team is the only team that can receive and process service cancellation requests.

Q: When Can I Cancel My Vivint Service?

A: You can cancel your Vivint service at any time. If you decide to cancel before your contracted subscription period ends, there may be early termination or other fees assessed depending on your individual service agreement.

Q: Where Can I Find My Vivint Contract or Service Agreement?

A: You can review your Vivint Service Agreement in the Documents section of your Vivint Customer Account Center.

Q: Does Canceling My Vivint Service Also Cancel My Third-Party Financing Agreement?

A: You may have separate financing agreements for your equipment through a third-party company. These financing agreements are independent of the Vivint service contract. If you cancel your Vivint service, your loan does not go away, and you may still be held responsible for honoring the terms and remaining balance of that third-party agreement.

Q: Does Vivint Provide Support for Extenuating Circumstances?

A: If your situation involves a death, bankruptcy, transition to assisted living, active-duty military service, or other similar extenuating circumstances, it’s helpful to mention that during the call. Those situations may follow a different process and could need more documentation.

Introducing u/QuinnFromVivint, your resident expert on everything Vivint!

Hi everyone,

We want to introduce another way that we are going to start replying, assisting, and engaging on r/VivintSmartHome and other subreddits.

Vivint customers have been talking about their systems on Reddit for years. You’ve been asking questions, troubleshooting issues, and sharing honest feedback. In the past, there were unofficial interactions with employees here, but now we’re showing up for those conversations more directly and consistently than ever before.

You may have seen official posts and comments here from u/Vivint, but we’d also like to introduce you to u/QuinnFromVivint, who's ready to answer your questions and give support wherever it’s needed.

What this space is: a place to ask questions, get clarity, and share feedback (good or bad!) directly with us. We’ll jump in where we can to help, explain, or point you in the right direction.

What this space isn’t: a replacement for official support channels, a place to discuss unrelated products, or a sales or marketing feed. Not every question can be answered publicly, but we’ll always be transparent about what we can and can’t help with here.

This is meant to be a constructive, respectful space, and we’re here to listen first. If you have questions, ideas, or feedback about your Vivint experience, we’re glad you’re here and we’re looking forward to the conversation.

We’re excited to step into this new chapter with you!

- The Vivint team

Every 2 days my app stops working on my S24.

Im so aggravated with this app. It just cuts out and doesnt work and I have no clue it stopped. I uninstall and reinstall every 2 days when I remember. Absolute garbage of a app. For as much as were locked in for, I expect this app to work flawlessly. But instead were stuck with crappy service and a empty wallet

Life360/Tracking

Mainly a feature Request u/Vivint u/QuinnFromVivint

Since Vivint CarGuard got discontinued and shutdown, I think it would awesome if we could get a life360 integration to use life360 features within the Vivint app or even would move to Vivint Tracking if they ever release their own GPS tracking service for families.

Beware of Vivint selling your information

Yes, I had a brief experience with Vivint. Didn’t like it (over $5000 for subpar equipment????). So I c a n c e l l e d immediately. I was in their system for a week tops.
I have to admit, a lot of frustration was due to a very crappy sales person. But after the fact I can thank him for being so lazy and crappy. A lot of the frustration came from promises he made, then when I asked for the stuff he promised, including why a bunch of sensors were never installed (because they ran out - it was 11 PM!). So when I said sensors were not installed, and asked him about promising me 3 extra sensors, I started getting billed for those items. So charging me $5000, then wanting $160 more to supply what I had already paid for. The stress that I went through in that week, took months to overcome. But it made me more resolute in c a n c e l l i n g.

The other thing that was inexcusable. When he took down my name he must have had a hearing issue. He misspelled my last name, even after I repeated it. Then he refused to correct it. He handed me the tablet, and I said my name is wrong. He said correcting it is a lot of work…. Really??? It took him a couple of minutes to present me the “paper”work. So all the legal documents and contracts were NOT in my legal name. Only the misspelled version.
But then, I started getting a lot more junk mail. And wouldn’t you know, it was addressed to my misspelled last name! And from what I can tell, they are STILL selling my information!

Still having issues despite resets.

My previous post was about the detection zone going off screen and not functioning. We got that sorted out after 2 days and now today, there was nothing recorded overnight.

My neighbor happened to be up at 3am and noticed someone standing at the end of my driveway for a bit and guess what? The camera didn't trigger or capture anything. I went outside during the day while deter was on and it did not trigger. But then it did a little later when I tested again. Amazon made a delivery and walked up my driveway: deter did not trigger. It did trigger at the door bell camera. And then triggered when I went outside to test again after the delivery person left.

It seems that deter and motion capture are not working sometimes. But all Vivint will do is reset the camera from their end and then send you on your way, knowing full well they've kicked the can down the road for a different chat agent to figure out.

It's so sad that we as customers can have this many problems and still be on the hook for our billing and our sub par equipment. Vivint will fix everything if you sign up for their subscription. But what about the fact that you sold me equipment that didn't work in the first place? Or is the software? Who knows. Vivint surely doesn't.

Rant over for now.

Edit: don't worry about asking me to DM you Quinn. I'll spend a few more hours on chat with an agent tomorrow. It's my favorite past time lately.

Not really trying to spend hours on the phone..

Redraw off screen

How do I get my redraw back on screen? Full screen doesn't work either. It glitched off screen while I was trying to adjust the detection zone.😫

Anyone know how to reset detection zone?

This happens a lot. The Vivint app is so bad. There is no excuse for bugs like this when AI can companion code with humans nowadays. I work with coders and the speed at which skilled devs are squashing bugs and deplying new features is incredible, assuming you have devs who understand companion coding.

Anyway - I have reset defaults, rebooted the camera, and restarted setup and nothing is working. It's stupid I have to get on chat every time I have an issue and can't fix these things myself. And I know why they want me on the support line/chat. It's so they can upsell me on some package. But honestly, I have my eyes set on a closed loop NVR system. As soon as we're done paying off this equipment, we're gone.

Until then, I'd like to get what I'm paying for. Anything you all know that I don't about resetting these cameras? Any secret tricks?

Can I arm and disarm my alarm via Google home app?

Thinking about getting Vivnt for my alarm system in a smart house I have. Can I arm and disarm the alarm via the Google Home app? Ink know you an use your voice by I don't use much voice commands.

Anyone has this setup this way? Want to use my phone/Google Nest Hub to arm and disarm my alarm.

My biggest frustration with Vivint is the constant upselling every time you contact them for support

I finally got them to stop calling me every other week selling me on new stuff. And they lied about me having cameras…I don’t own any Vivint cameras.

Customizable Doorbell Chimes

Your landlord won't upgrade your locks. Here's what you can do instead.

I get this one a lot honestly. renting means more strangers moving through the building at any give time, and if your lease won't let you drill or mount anything, it can feel like there's nothing you can actually do about it.

Most of what actually matters doesn't touch a wall anymore though. Door and window sensors are just adhesive, so you get an alert the second something opens and peel them right off before you move out.

Motion sensors and glass break sensors work the same way. They connect over Wi-Fi, no mounting needed, and they're worth having if you've got hallway blind spots or a ground floor window.

Locks are really the only place you need to touch anything, and even that's minor. A smart deadbolt swaps in over y our existing one, runs on batteries, no drilling, and you put the original back before you leave. Worth it if you've ever wondered whether a past tenant still has a key.

We put together a renter's guide if you want the full breakdown.

Anyone else dealt with this? Curious what people actually ended up doing when the lease wouldn't budge.

Vivent literally will not let me e n d my services - this feels deeply illegal

I called once, it was impossible and I have never been treated that way by customer service before (see everyone's experiences here: https://www.reddit.com/r/VivintSmartHome/comments/1rpzfhy/megathread_cancellation_questions_please_post_here/).

I called again, after 2 hours, they agreed to accept my "request" but wouldn't give me any confirmation that I put in this request (no number no e-mail no nothing). So now the 30 days have gone by...and surprise surprise...I haven't heard from them and I have to call again.

For anyone who was successful, any tips? Who can I reach out to?

Alternatives to the LG Innotek WiFi bridge???

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

My camera stopped working. I checked the Wi-Fi Bridge for the camera and it powers on for a few seconds and then shuts off. I've tested a different outlet and disconnected the camera, and the power light still shuts off. So I called Vivint and they basically said they stopped making that model and I would need to upgrade my cameras and I don't want to do that.

Are there any alternatives or replacements to this WiFi bridge?

No rewind on any cameras

Does anyone know what would cause a loss of the rewind capability? This has been the case for about 3 or 4 days, out of the blue. App and panel are fine otherwise.

Update: After trying all the typical things like resetting the panel and the like, I chatted with support. In the course of inquiry they asked if 2 users logged in with 1 email address. I said yes. They say this can in some way affect the DVR playback. I ask if they're sure because, as a non-this-type-of-tech person, the connection isn't apparent. She says yes indeed and proceeds to walk me through adding a user. Just following the path I'm being lead after explaining it all.

I successfully added a user (iPhone) per the instructions. Verified access and function with them. Signed in myself (Andriod) and the problem persists. It's like exactly where I started. Not only that, but now the 2nd user has lost rewind function on all cams. It worked prior to adding the user, so now we're worse off.

I figured this was an Android issue, as the iPhone didn't experience the same loss of function prior to being added as a user. Now it's an iPhone issue, too.

I also lost the chat function in the app, right after getting the instructions to add a user from the panel. Zero messages get delivered from me now to chat support. Lol it's amazing. Ok, so losing the chat made me have to call. I get a pretty solid guy from support. He takes me through the reset the hub panel steps, again. He tweaked the bit rate, he said, on all cameras. Logged out and in the app, the whole nine. Resulting in...him saying I need a tech visit.

Now, I ask those with the knowledge...does any of what I've been instructed or advised to do make sense?

What could an on-site tech do that deals with the loss of rewind function in the Andriod and now the iPhone app? The original issue is that I can't rewind.

smoke/co monitor

I have a smoke/co monitor in my home to monitor my alarm system and it recently started falling off the ceiling while the sticky pad remains on the ceiling. Does anyone here know if Vivint offers replacements or if I can buy it elsewhere?

After replacing our HVAC filter, how is the Filter Replacement process reset? I have not located any place tp update the system that the filter has been replaced, and the reminders are getting rather annoying.

Park City is the safest summer destination in America. Honolulu is the riskiest.

We recently analyzed FBI summer crime data from 25 popular travel spots, and the gap between the safest and riskiest is bigger than you'd expect. Park City, Utah, came out safest with a property crime score of 136 per 100,000 people form June through August. Honolulu sat at the top of the risk list at 442, more than three times higher.

The trend side is where it gets interesting. Miami's summer property crime has jumped 60% since 2022,once of the sharpest climbs anywhere. West Palm Beach went the other direction and dropped 43% over the same stretch, even though the two are barely an hour apart in the same state.

Keep in mind that these are citywide rates, not tourist-only. It still gives you an idea of how much theft is happening during peak season.

Where have you gone this summer? and does safety ever cross your mind when you're picking a place, or is it all about the trip itself?

Confirmed Data Throttling from Vivint and/or cell provider

Confirmed from their virtual tech support line while trying to figure out why videos are missing, choppy, buffering, partial recording of full detection zone setting regardless of high/medium/low sensitivity setting.

Called to have fixed or diagnose. Tech support confirmed of throttling data. Made some adjustments, but still not what it used to be. Missing videos on 24/7 monitoring or playback.

They blamed WiFi through the walls, but was never an issue in the past. WiFi is fiber speeds, cell TMobile/Verizon/ATT on panel. T-Mobile unlimited, fastest/highest speeds cell plan. Still only getting 30-40% signal speeds on two cameras and only 65% on doorbell for several months.

Removed and reinstalled all cameras, reset and reset panel. Still having the same issues. Slow connectivity, buffering, missing videos, very low signals.

$2,661 is the average burglary loss, and vacation season is when it happens most.

The FBI puts the average loss from a burglary at $2,661, and empty homes during travel season are exactly what burglars are looking for. A dark house with a stuffed mailbox basically advertises that nobody's been around for a week.

Luckily, there are a few small things you can do right before leaving on vacation to keep your home safe.

  • Put your mail on hold so it's not piling up
  • Have a neighbor grab any packages off the porch
  • Set your lights on a varied schedule since a fixed timer is easy to spot
  • Do a quick check of your sensors and camera angles so you know the entry points are covered and you'll actually get an alert if something happens.

An underrated tip is waiting to post on social media. Sharing beach photos while you're still gone tells everyone the house is empty, so it's worth waiting until you're back.

What does your routine look like before you leave for vacation, and have you ever come home to something being off?

Smart Actions that don’t seem very smart…

Hello guys, I installed Vivint a few days ago and the technician came over and set my system up. My house is set to “arm stay” at midnight, and “disarm” at 6am. Today my son accidentally opened the door after midnight and we had to dismiss the alert with the pin. I was a little surprised that when we did that the system didn’t go back to arm stay. There’s really no way to set smart action to attempt to “arm stay” a few minutes after a dismissal. But the worst thing is what I realized while poking around in the app. If I set the house to “arm away” and we leave for the weekend, it will disarm at 6am unless we actually disable that smart action? I went in and tried to see if there’s a way to set it to which “disarm at 6am except if armed away is in place”. So this relies on me remembering to disable the smart action to disarm the home, otherwise the system will disarm indiscriminately. While I do have my phone with me and can arm my house, I have an huge issue with the fact that you can’t arm your house if a sensor is open or something. There are so many things about this system I simply do not like.

Hub error! I need help!

My smart hub pro 2 which got installed about a month ago had an update so i clicked on update. Now it says "System check failed" I clicked the little i at the top right and it says up to date so I rebooted and still showing the same error. I don't know what to do. I called support and they quoted me $99 service fee for someone to come out here and look. Total BS since I just got this a month ago.
