Most Underrated Study Spots
What study spots on campus don't get enough respect? I've mostly avoided the library this past year because it's full.

I’ve never been to any UTEP events before, and I was wondering if Minerpalooza is actually fun and worth going to I am thinking about going this year, but I don’t really know what to expect
I am also trying to meet new people and make some friends at UTEP, so I was wondering if Minerpalooza is a good place for that do people usually go with their friends, or is it easy to meet and talk to new people there?
What is the event usually like? Are there activities, food, music, games, or anything else that makes it worth going?

Looking for a place to study/do homework on the east side Lee Trevino area? Any suggestions? WiFi optional I usually use my hotspot. Thanks!

I’m only going to say this once, but students who commute to UTEP have got to be the worst drivers I have ever seen (especially those with Chihuahua license plates). If you are going to risk causing a traffic collision by cutting in front of someone and then returning to your original lane, your license needs to be revoked. I don’t understand how it’s so difficult to obey simple traffic laws during dense traffic hours. Seriously people.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but does a negative balance mean I am getting a refund? My account shows $3,820.74 in charges and $5,902 in financial aid/anticipated credits, leaving a balance of -$2,081.26.
It has been a couple of days and I have not received anything yet. I also cannot find the “Where’s My Refund” page on MyStatus. Does this mean I should be getting $2,081.26 back, or is the aid still processing? 😭

I am interviewing next week for a research scientist III position and I’m curious what a reasonable wage is in this city. My previous positions have been salaried, the first as a level 1 tech at $50k/year and the second was a level 3 tech at $75k/year.
I noticed the pay grade at UTEP is non-exempt; meaning, overtime pay is allowed. This is strange to me, since my last positions were exempt. Is it common for you guys to be paid hourly, and if so, how much?
I appreciate your insight in this. Thank you!
FYI I have a bachelors degree + 5 years research experience (1 year management). The lab uses the same animal models and techniques I am trained in.

I medically withdrew from the Spring 2026 semester and now on my financial aid there is a balance of -4k. Is that normal? I thought if I withdrew I wouldn’t get any money back, especially since it was all paid for through grants.

still waiting on my refund for fall of 2026, anyone else having the same problem? i took summer classes and they already posted and pete’s payement my account still on negative for fall 2026 which should be my refund amount. Finance never answer phone calls and can’t even go in person because there is no parking.

I’m a commuter student at UTEP and also an English major which means a majority of my professors require us to have the physical textbooks rather than Ebook. It makes my backpack really heavy and I don’t have a car to store them in between classes. Is there any lockers or storage on campus I could use to house my textbooks rather than carrying all of them at once? My back is killing me 😅

Is anyone else struggling with their Dependent Verification Worksheet? I have tried to get help from SBS and other departments but I am always met with a support ticket that makes no sense and then it mentions my issue has been resolved and a priority score of 4(low).
Multiple times have I tried to get help and to no avail? Wondering if I'm the only one this is happening to?
Really would be great if I got assistance on this since, due to this, I haven't got any of my aid.

This semester UTEP rolled out the new system where different classifications have different days where they can purchase parking permits. I personally don’t like it that much (Mainly because I got lucky last year and got a great spot) for two main reasons. The lack of class verification and the underclassmen having to cross the Sahara desert to get to campus 💀
On a real note the first gripe I got is kinda valid because I had a friend (Sophomore) who didn’t follow the outlined dates but he was still able to purchase a permit in a fantastic location (The date for sophomores wasn’t for another week, he used the opening meant for the seniors and it didn’t ask to verify is classification)
What do y’all think?

my disbursement never hit my account, like many others experiencing this. i went to financial aid right at 8am, they told me i owed $10 which is why my disbursement didn’t come in on time; not a problem, i paid it. they told me it should be processed wednesday and hit my account in 5-7 business days, but when i emailed student business services (SBS) they told me my disbursement wasn’t enough to generate a refund. has this happened to anyone before? i’m confused and panicking because i still have to get supplies, as many of us are dependent on financial aid to get the supplies we need for class. what should i do?

How is UTEP’s campus and campus life? Also, is there a lot to do near campus? I’ve searched up gyms near campus, but would like to know more about the other places like places to study or night life. Anything else that you think I should know about UTEP or El Paso is also appreciated!

I have an online class that meets 12:30 - 1:20 and we have to be on zoom, is there any quiet spot/empty areas around the psychology building that I can use while doing it? Mostly because I'll have 10 minutes to get to my lecture after and I dont want to speed walk across campus

Hey guys, I’m trying to figure out what’s gonna happen with my financial aid and was wondering if anyone here has been in a similar situation.
I was originally taking 9 credits this semester and owed around $550. I added a 3-credit class, so now I’m at 12 credits, but my balance jumped up to around $1,600 😭
My financial aid had already been awarded before I added the class. On Goldmine it shows:
Fall Pell Grant: $3,698 accepted / $2,773 paid
UTEP Institutional Grant: $702 accepted / $0 paid
Since $2,773 is basically 75% of the $3,698, I’m wondering if that’s because I was only taking 9 credits. If I’m at 12 credits now, would they potentially recalculate my Pell and give me the other ~$925?
Also, does anyone know what happens with the $702 UTEP Institutional Grant? It says accepted but hasn’t been paid yet.
I also got an email from Financial Aid recently saying I’m still eligible for financial aid, but warning me about my progress toward my degree since I’ve accumulated a lot of credits. I’m graduating after this semester, so now I’m kinda scared to drop anything and mess up my financial aid/SAP 😭
So basically, I’m wondering if anyone knows:
-Will going from 9 to 12 credits potentially increase my Pell?
-Could the $702 grant still disburse?
-How long does it usually take UTEP to recalculate aid after adding a class?
-If I end up dropping the class before the Sept. 9 census date, would that affect my financial aid/SAP?

A day before classes start and my PASE waiver hasn’t reflected yet in my account!
I called a week and a half ago and they told me that it should be reflected days before classes start.
What’s going on? Is it working for you guys?
