We are asking that you send thoughts and prayers to Rao and Vasu Unnava and their family. These two beloved members of the UC Davis community are among the thousands missing in the recent Nepal-Tibet flash floods.

We understand they were staying in a hotel in Timure, Nepal, a few kilometers from the border of Nepal and Tibet, when the flash floods occurred on August 26. They have not been located or heard from since then.

Rao stepped down on July 1 as dean of our Graduate School of Management (GSM), where he served for a decade. He is currently on sabbatical this year and will be working with the Institute for Innovation on Food and Health before returning to the school’s faculty as a professor of marketing. Vasu is as an adjunct associate professor at the Graduate School of Management who teaches marketing and studies consumer behavior.

They have touched countless through their work at the Graduate School of Management and throughout their careers in higher education. We are grateful to both Rao and Vasu for their contributions that extend far beyond GSM and UC Davis.
Currently, the University of California’s global risk management, security, and crisis response contractor is working with authorities and agencies in Nepal, along with the U.S. State Department, to locate Rao and Vasu. The Unnavas' children and extended family are also pursuing every available avenue to obtain information and requested assistance from U.S. government agencies.

During this anxious time of uncertainty, students can contact Student Health and Counseling Services for help. Mental health and wellness support is available to faculty and staff through the Academic and Staff Assistance Program.

We continue to hope Rao and Vasu will be found safe and sound. Again, please keep them, their children, and extended family in your thoughts and prayers.

this has been an ongoing issue for a while and i’m finally sick of it enough to talk about it on here so at least someone outside of this department can hear me. i swear to god the design department doesn’t give a flying fuck about students, their wellbeing, or their careers. i’m not even a design student and i’m enraged at their dismissiveness. i have been working as a student worker for over a year now and i have experienced non stop disrespect from any professor who has used the sewing lab in Cruess Hall and now that one of them got some money to redo it they have just proven to me the don’t care about anyone but themselves. one big issue that came up before plans were even made permanent is the dressing room provided in the room, and when i was shown the plans i immediately disagreed with its placement in the room since it was right next to a window that could open. i have heard enough horror stories to know that any situation that involves indecent exposure should be handled with the utmost care and consideration to all parties involved. however they still built it next to a window THAT CAN OPEN TO AN ACTIVE STREET and simply frosted it. from the street you can see right into the dressing room. even after several students noted their uncomfortability they disregarded it. there’s literally no reason to have it there either when there are 3 other corners of the room it could perfectly fit into. this doesn’t even take into account that they made a big stink about how proud they were to upgrade the rooms facilities, JUST TO WASTE MONEY ON HOME MACHINES. this is a university that prides themselves on making students industry ready and they are purposely removing perfectly working industry standard machines (which are being held in the theatre as we speak, not tossed, not donated, just sitting there getting broken by things being piled up on them) with home machines. students pay upwards of 40k to go here and your gonna shit all over their hard work by putting an at home machine in front of them. i am purposely leaving out professors names as i don’t plan to make too big of a stink about this as i have stated before i work here and i dont want to lose my income (which they have done to me in the past on accident, who knows if they can make another “accident” happen) but the professors that have been at the helm of all of this have only ever been disrespectful to me and my coworkers, talking down to us and mansplaining our own jobs to us as if we were children. speaking to us while doing our jobs as if we were children lost and can’t find our mommy. and the moment we speak up for ourselves they storm off in a huff with zero apology in sight. i am so so grateful for the Tool Room manager for being the literal best employee in the building for standing up for every student worker and student in the department and being the biggest help when it comes to any issue. if it wasn’t for them i wouldn’t have kept this job for so long. anyways thank you for listening to my rant and no matter what they do to the room i will work hard to make sure it runs as smooth as possible while also getting my own degree

hello im an incoming freshman at uc davis majoring in biochem and im just wondering how you get research here. i tried looking for some professors to email, but im struggling to find the place where the faculty's emails are displayed.

To the folks who knit/crochet, where do you buy your yarn? I'm trying to get back into the hobby but I dont really know anywhere that sells it. Plus I dont have a car, so anywhere outside of davis isnt really an option...

I know this question has been asked a million times by now but I would like some clarity. I am living at the cuarto halls as a transfer student and I would like to bring my car. My reasoning for this is that I would like to visit my family in the Bay Area regularly for personal reasons. From what i read, the only options available are paying $17 a day to park on campus or finding parking near dorms which is near impossible.

I know I should have taken this into consideration when deciding to live on or off campus originally, but now I have to deal with my circumstances.

If anyone lives in the residence halls and brings there car, can you please share your experience? How packed does the street parking near the dorms get?

I should be able to filter out courses with a time conflict when looking for classes to add. Worst thing ever.

I will be living in The Green for this upcoming school year and was lucky enough to get a parking permit, except I don't know how to pay for it. I know it is seperate from what I have to pay through AggieBill and have heard from some places that there is a resident portal that payment is through. I looked it up and thought I found the portal they were reffering to, but when I tried to access it with my Davis email and information, it said to contact my property to verify my information is correct. So, I tried calling The Green but they were so unhelpful and the guy I talked to didn't know anything. I'm getting nervous because I know payment is due the 15th and I can't lose parking.

TL;DR: How am I supposed to pay for my Green parking permit?

Currently on a UC campus tour road trip & I’ll be taking my son (Poli Sci) on a “self guided” walking tour of Davis’ campus this Sunday. Do you have a favorite building or feature on the campus? Is there a specific path we should stick to? Cool dorms?
Is there a cool downtown area next to campus we should check out? Areas to avoid?
I wish we could do a guided tour to get all the fun facts and such, I really want him to be wowed! But we couldn’t make that work schedule wise. I don’t even think the visitor center will be open due to it being a holiday weekend :-/

September is here which means fall sports are in full swing. To start off the sub's occasional game thread posts, we're highlighting the exceptional Women's Volleyball team making their home debut.

After winning the conference in their last year in the Big West, WVB have now moved to the somewhat more prestigious Mountain West Conference along with most of the Aggie sports. Volleyball is anticipated to be a centerpiece of UCD's bid to show it's competitive in the new conference, with the Ags narrowly picked to finish second out of the 10 teams in the conference. UCD was also the only team in the conference to land two players on the preseason all-MWC team -- Ximena Cordero Barr and Mia Starr -- who will look to help lead the Aggies to a strong nonconference showing before entering conference play to try to claim a top-4 spot and advance to the postseason.

With their home debut, the Ags will face San Diego State now of the Pac-12, which confusingly was a middling team in the Mountain West Conference last year before reforming the more famous Pac-12 brand along with a handful of other former MWC schools. (You could argue/imagine that UCD took SDSU's vacated spot in the Mountain West). Pac/MWC matchups like this are important for establishing the new landscape of the various sports in terms of where the conferences stand relative to each other, so expect the Ags to come out of the gate strong looking to "upset" a vulnerable team from a more famous conference.

Tickets are free for students at the UCU Center (adjoined to the ARC); make sure to bring your Aggiecard and monitor the UC Davis Aggies insta for any additional ticket-claiming instructions.

The Streaming Situation

With the new conference, UCD now has a more complicated streaming deal for most but not all sports games. Most home UCD sports games will be on MW+ (https://watch.themw.com/uc-davis), which is a $11/mo streaming service for non-football, non-TV games. (As of this writing there's a discount available for an annual subscription). This isn't an ad for the service, but if you do decide it's worth it to sign up, consider marking UC Davis as your preferred school because allegedly the school gets a payout based on number of fans signing up.

Once signed up, you can watch it on a browser, or there are apps available for iPhone/Android as well as smart TVs. Bear in mind, this is **only** for non-football sports and some but not all basketball games (since a portion of the MBB games and a handful of the WBB games will be on national TV instead). Also, while UCD has historically been good about streaming home games even for non-FB/BB sports, you can't count on other schools to have the same investment. In MWC play, some but not all away games for non-revenue sports will be on MW+, and it will be more hit-or-miss in the nonconference schedule at the beginning of the season.

Im freaking out how cooked am I. Im an incoming freshman and the last few days I was busy setting up my new laptop for school and since I only ever look at my gmail on my laptop I only just accessed it. The employer wanted to schedule an interview for September 1st with a group and I just saw it. I emailed them back explaining what happened and if I could join a different group.

Are they going to think Im super irresponsible after this and definitely not hire me? Am i even getting another chance? This is the only interview I've gotten for months and I feel like i blew everything. You're free to call me stupid 💔

Hello! i’m an incoming freshman moving to Davis from LA. I have a few bulky dorm essentials that I’ll need to ship by move in day (mattress topper, comforter, pillows,etc..) and was wondering where to ship them to and pick them up when I move in. i’ve applied for 6 jobs in the past year through ASUCD and every single one of them has given me an interview but all 6 of them rejected me. why is it so hard to get a job at school??

I’m heavily considering joining campus as a PhD student next year in the History Department. I’ve been in touch with a few faculty and they seem very supportive! My main question is about lifestyle, time on campus, etc.

Are there any PhD or other grad students who might help offer insight about big picture stuff? Do you live near campus or commute? How often do you work on campus, including TA work? How are the resources for students with a family? How tight does your budget feel?

Is it true that when youre drunk in Davis, you can just walk towards the general direction of the smell of the cows and youll usually find your way home? Also, is it true the Davis band members are unhinged people with creative hazing rituals? I was told not to fuck with anyone playing the wind instruments, particularly the flutes. I wish I went to Davis instead of Irvine for undergrad.

My brother just passed his behind the wheel test at Davis DMV so I just wanted to share the route he took. I believe there are three routes possible. Here’s the one he was tested on:
- right onto 5th St
- right onto L
- right onto E 8th
- left onto Pole Line
- right onto Loyola
- left onto Buckeye
- right onto Whittier which becomes Manzanita
- left onto E Covell
- left onto Pole Line all the way back to the DMV

I need to cancell my housing originally I thought I was going to be good to beable to live in my studio at the green my Fasfa was said to cover my housing, my mental was decent, and over all I was excited to be living on my own. Then when I got my aggie bill my fasfa did not cover it me or my family can not cover the thousands to pay for it, and my mental health has just continued to decline since May-June that now Im at a point that I need to stay with my support system and spoke to my therapist to finnaly get medication to help. I still want to go to school and I have decided to commute instead I have filled and appel that whent into more depth on just the financial issues but it got denied now I am filling an appeal for that denial.

Honestly Im so scared it will get denied again, school is less than 3 weeks away, I cant pay to live on campus or in the right mind space to live alone. School has always helped me have a routine and focuse on my future that has been one of the reasons I have made it this far in life. Now I got an email saying if I dont pay my aggie bill by the 15th I will be dropped form my classes, I've been trying to find ways to get me out of this contract for weeks at this point, tomorrow I have an appointment with my disability specialist to see if they can help me out and vouch for me to get my housing canceled.

What else can I do? I want to go to school, especally since I am a transpher an this is going to be my 1st semester at my dream school, I am set to finish in less than 2 years since I completed all my prereqs at community. I just cant live on campus cuase financially I cant pay for it and mentally I'm afraid with being without my support system I am going lose myself and everything I have worked so hard for...

I have a 2.8 GPA as a JUNIOR and I’m currently switching from bio to HDE. I’m pre-nursing and really worried I won’t be able to raise my GPA enough before applying. (I am applying after I take a gap year after grad)

Does anyone have study tips for upper-div SOC/HDE classes and STEM prereqs like anatomy and microbio? I feel like even when I try really hard I end up with Cs or Bs 😭 Any advice from people who have successfully brought their GPA up would be appreciated!!
