Looking for a few new subreddit moderators

Hi all,

Looking to add one or two mods to the subreddit. Year over year this sub keeps growing, mods come and go, etc. Send a message to ModMail, no experience required. Just need folks to help remove posts/comments/etc that break the rules and bloat the subreddit with unrelated junk.

In your message to ModMail, please include your current year, graduation year, and program of study. Feel free to add anything else you see relevant.

Thanks!

AI is ruining my learning.

I feel like within people I know this is pretty common of an opinion but I just feel like its ridiculous how classes are structured within my major. I've had so many classes that are just real miserable. Like, the implementation of AI generated exams, quizzes, homeworks for an entire class I took, another class consisting of 10 minute coding quizzes that require 100+ lines of code to solve that were barely taught in class (changes due to AI, though extremely hard class in the first place), and a third class where I was never lucky enough to attend when he was actually lecturing and would advocate for us to turn to AI instead of him to develop an understanding. it's just fucking ridiculous and if this is how it is now I can't even think about how it's gonna be in a few years tbh...

I feel like its a very open secret amongst people in my major that the curriculum is actually nightmarish, but so many of my professors take pleasure in it and I just feel like this is getting to a point where it's ridiculous and I don't even know how any of these professors are permitted to keep their curriculum, let alone teach full stop. I've lucked out this semester, like my profs are mostly great but all 3 of those classes are for people just starting their specialty classes and I don't like what the AI usage has created when it comes to the way so many of my classmates approach their degree.

Looking for Friends or people to hangout with!

Hi everyone, as the title suggests I’m looking to find more friends on campus or near campus mainly for weekend activities or get togethers.

I’m 27F and In grad school and commute to campus, but still live really close! I just moved to this area not to long ago, so new friends have not really happened yet. I’m really close with people in my program but with schedules it’s hard to find time to hangout.

Why is it impossible to find a job for work study? Like on and off campus you apply a bunch and no one’s hiring like I seriously need to find a job.

hi! I'll be transferring to Temple in the spring, and would like to know of any recommended places, streets, and neighborhoods near Temple that are safe for walking in broad daylight or at night, and have a large student population. Also, which streets should I avoid?

Has anyone else had graduation delayed because a required class wasn't offered? Drafting a proposal for Harrisburg.

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to gather some feedback and firsthand experiences from PA college students.

A recurring issue across PA schools is students following their degree map, staying in good standing, and then finding out a mandatory prerequisite, core class, or capstone isn't being offered when they need it—or is scheduled in direct conflict with another required class. Through no fault of their own, people get pushed into an extra semester or a 5th year, getting hit with thousands in unexpected tuition and mandatory fees.

On top of that, schools love to advertise "tuition freezes" while hiking up mandatory non-instructional fees (tech fees, campus fees, etc.) that we can't opt out of.

I’m working with student advocates to take a statutory concept to the PA General Assembly Education Committees called the Higher Education Timely Graduation & Mandatory Fee Integrity Act:

Fee Parity: Caps mandatory fee increases so they can't exceed base tuition changes (if tuition is frozen, mandatory fees must be frozen too).

Fifth-Year Tuition Waiver: Requires public colleges to waive tuition/fees if a student is forced into an extra semester solely because the institution failed to schedule or offer a required course.

Lawmakers in Harrisburg care much more about real constituent data than raw online numbers. If you've been delayed by course cancellations or unexpected fee hikes, please take 60 seconds to document your experience on this intake form:

📋 Share your story / testimonial: https://forms.gle/BEKFwnCVWEMdrFgy9

If you want to support the public push and help build broader momentum, you can also sign the petition here:

✍️ Change.org Petition: https://c.org/cmz5whTg88

Would love to hear your thoughts or similar experiences in the comments. What department/major at your school is the worst with bottlenecking required classes

need to yell at sfs

Who do I escalate an issue with sfs to?

Emailed sfs like three times and been fully ignored. From spring semester I had a refund they didn't send me then expired then when I set up the direct deposit I never got it. Emailed and never heard back. Still have gotten nothing. Now I'm having more problems with accepting my aid offers and them reviewing my documents wrong and I emailed them like a week ago and again heard nothing back. It generates a ticket then nobody reaches out to be and there's no updates to it. I'm PISSED. Clearly emailing the office does absolutely nothing. Help please

should i take a leave of absence for my mental health?

okay so im a sophomore and ive been struggling really badly with my mental health. ive been depressed pretty much all summer and wasnt able to get out of it before school started. we have been in school for over a week now and i havent gone to a single class because i can barely get myself out of bed. im diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and adhd, and my mom doesnt even know how bad things have gotten. i have a good gpa and im really scared of ruining it by continuing to miss class. i still have time to drop my classes, so im considering taking a leave of absence for my mental health. i also dont want to waste all the money on a semester if im not even going to class. has anyone taken a leave of absence because of their mental health? is that something colleges generally allow? and do you think it would be better to take time off instead of forcing myself through the semester when im struggling this badly? im also really scared of disappointing my family, but i honestly dont know what the right decision is. any advice would be really appreciated, especially from anyone whos been in a similar situation.

Switch majors

I want to switch my major from Accounting to Linguistics. Some people might think, “What…Why?”

For some background, I love learning languages as a hobby, and I knew that no matter where I worked, I wanted the option to go abroad, translate, or do something along those lines. I committed to Temple for Accounting because I wanted to pursue international accounting, but honestly, I chose it solely because it felt like the more promising and financially secure option. “money over passion” type of decision.

Since the start of school, I’ve already had three mental breakdowns and have felt extremely overwhelmed. I couldn’t see myself getting through business school because it was never something I initially wanted to pursue.

I want to switch to education with a concentration in applied linguistics. because I want to become an English teacher or professor. More specifically, I want to teach English as a second language. This time, I’m making a choice based on something I genuinely enjoy and am passionate about, rather than choosing a career solely for the money.

Lastly, what does switching majors actually look like? It’s only been two weeks since I started, and I’ve already contacted my academic advisor about it. Since I’m making the change so early, I’m wondering how complicated the process will be and what I should expect.???
