News Frame TLDR for week of 8/24/26 (15)

Steam VR sale potentially starting soon

According to a reddit post, supposedly developers have been invited to participate in an upcoming Steam VR game sale starting September 14th and ending September 21st. Of course, you can immediately jump to conclusions and shout "Wow! This means the Steam Frame is soon!" Good on you if you think that. You can also believe "This is total bullshit and probably fake." And I wouldn't fault you for that either. Either way, if this does end up being true, it's your chance to save on some more VR games for when that Frame eventually does come out. I'm only covering this because they're really isn't much else that happened this week. The crooked mods of r/SteamFrame kept the post up, so at least someone believes it.

Email to developers talking about the Steam VR sale

COOL THING: Beat Saber is now Frame Verified!

As of this week, Beat Saber is now officially verified for Standalone play on Steam Frame! If you remember a while back, it got hit with the "unsupported" tag for whatever reason. I've heard it was unsupported because the default graphics configuration was too high for the Frame to run well, and you had to manually turn the graphics settings down. I've also heard there could have been some weird classic Linux audio issue. It was marked as "default graphics configuration didn't perform well" officially, so I'm more inclined to believe the former. Either way, whatever issue it was has been fixed, and we can now confirm Beat Saver runs great on Frame! Side note, as of this writing, there are now 99 Frame Verified games on Steam. I wonder what will be the 100th...? Place your bets now!

TLDR: Supposed Steam sale for VR game starting soon, Beat Saber is standalone verified. The Frame is still not out yet.

21 days until Summer ends.

Mod Post Join Steam Frame Discord: Updates and Rule Changes

Hey everyone,

It’s been a little while since we last shared an update about the community Discord, and with us recently passing 6,000 members now feels like a good time to let everyone know what’s changed.

Over the past few months we’ve made a number of improvements:

  • Improved moderation with the introduction of Mod Mail, clearer warning and ban processes, and a consistent appeals system.
  • The 18+ requirement has been removed. The server is now open to anyone who meets Discord’s minimum age requirement. We still have a dedicated section for adult members who want to opt in.
  • Steam Frame compatibility support has been expanded, including a bot that automatically posts new Great on Frame verification updates.
  • Frame Watch continues to be the place for the latest Steam Frame leaks and rumours.
  • Frame TL;DR provides a weekly roundup of the biggest Steam Frame news.

With launch getting closer, we’ve also got plenty of community events, giveaways and discussions planned.

Whether you’re joining for the first time or giving us a second chance after being away for a while, we’d love to have you.

Question Will games be able to use eye tracking for game mechanics (not just foveated rendering) - or are there even already games doing this?

I just came to realize that there is quite some potential, like in horror games, doing this.

Discussion How good could Steam Frame + Arcturus actually be as a spatial camera?

Post image

The Arcturus Vision Camera looks much more interesting than just a color-passthrough upgrade. I compared its announced spatial-video specs with Quest 3, Vision Pro, PICO and dedicated 3D cameras, including angular resolution rather than only pixel count.

Discussion Great on Frame Wishlist

I haven't seen a similar post like this and considering how many games have reached Great on Frame, let's talk about games we hope to see get updated!

I'll start with some obvious ones and some personal requests:

- COMPOUND
- TOSS!
- Noun Town
- Audica
- The Lab
- Race the Sun
- Half Life 2 VR

Several of these games have had native Quest releases, which means most of the effort in optimization has already been done, and it's just a matter of integrating some updated SteamVR APIs to properly map controllers and whatnot. Maybe some other minor tweaks, but hopefully not a huge project.

The others don't have Quest versions but are games I suspect to not be as demanding, either because of their style or especially in the case of HL2VR, because of their age. It's a shame we lost The Lab, I'm hoping they pull through and fix whatever issues it had that caused it to be removed, since it's still easily one of the best first VR experiences for those trying it for the first time.

What games do you hope get considered Great On Frame? I'm more curious about VR titles but non-VR games are also welcome, particularly if you have a good use case for playing them on Frame.

Question Komodo Station release timing?

Does anyone have a guess as to the timing of Frame releasing at Komodo? Will it be the same time that it's released in Steam?

What was the release timing of Machine for comparison?

Want to have a chance to buy it from Komodo.

Question VR-Dedicated 6 GHz Wi-Fi 6E/7 Router and Frame Dongle in Same Room - Potential Interference?

This question has been touched on in other threads, but I haven't seen the issue of potential router/dongle interference discussed in depth, assuming both are located in the same room. The dongle will be running the Wi-Fi 6E standard with 6 GHz band. "True" tri-band Wi-Fi 6E/7 also uses the 6 GHz band, and 7 brings the added advantage of MLO to the table. I don't believe the question of "what specific data is transmitted over the dongle vs. over the general Wi-Fi connection" has been definitively answered yet, so for the purposes of this thread let's assume they're used interchangeably and Steam VR optimizes what's available (if this has been answered, feel free to correct me and point out how it affects the title question).

Is there any reason to suspect that having both the dongle and dedicated router located in the same room would actually lead to worse connectivity due to interference as opposed to just using the dongle and otherwise connecting the Frame to the house-wide Wi-Fi network? (FWIW, I'm running a Wi-Fi 6 mesh system in the house, so the only potential traffic present at 6 GHz is coming from the neighbors, but I'm aiming for the title question to generalize regardless of existing network configuration.)

Game Promotion Our game Space Control just got the Steam Frame verified status, woohoo!

We were so excited when the Steam Frame was announced, and immediately requested a devkit so we could make sure our game would work on the headset.

Unfortunately we didn't manage to get our hands on one, so getting verified was a bit of a struggle.
On our first submission, it turned out the game didn't even launch, but we didn't give up and after a bunch of resubmissions and fixing many issues, we finally got the verified status!

We're excited to play our own game on the Frame once it releases, and hope you all will enjoy it too!

Discussion UEVR games

So, I just gave UEVR a try for the first time on my Quest 3 and I'm kind of blown away.
I read it's easy to setup and to run, but being a bit tech challenged I still expected I'll have some troubles. I didn't. It's literary a few clicks and, just like that, the game is playable in VR.

So far I only gave Psychonauts 2 and F.I.S.T a try and I'm impressed! Especially Psychonauts 2 is a dream come true to experience in VR. And both look and run absolutely beautiful on my system (RTX 5070 TI). The only problem I had were some flickering shadows in Psychonauts 2 that were fixed by loading the user profiles (another fantastic thing about UEVR).

I'm really in awe. I didn't think UEVR games would look that good in VR (truly native feeling) and run that good on my not-quite-top-of-the-line system.

Now I'll wait for Steam Frame before fully diving in UEVR games.

I do wonder though, if you already tried UEVR, what games do you recommend that run good even on systems with less than rtx5090?

Personally, I can't wait to try modded Resident Evil 9.

Question 3D room scanning on other headsets, is there an app that stores a collection of yours and other people?

If there’s an online app where people are uploading 3d scans for anyone to look at I could probably spend a lot of time in that, wonder if Steam will get an app like that for the camera add on

Discussion KOMODO’s September 8 Restock Makes a September 7 PT Steam Frame Launch Unlikely

Thumbnail x.com
0 Upvotes

KOMODO has announced that the Steam Controller will be restocked in Japan on September 8 at around 10:00 AM JST.

That translates to September 7 at around 6:00 PM PT.

This makes September 7 PT a particularly awkward date for a worldwide Steam Frame launch. If Valve were to open Steam Frame reservations or sales globally that day, KOMODO could potentially be dealing with a major new hardware launch at almost the exact same time as its scheduled Steam Controller restock.

And based on KOMODO’s history, their website isn't exactly known for handling massive spikes in traffic gracefully. 😅 Previous Valve hardware launches have already caused serious server and checkout problems, with many customers struggling just to complete their purchases.

So from a logistics standpoint, it would be strange for KOMODO to deliberately put a Steam Controller restock and the worldwide Steam Frame launch in the same time window.

Of course, this doesn't make a September 7 PT launch impossible. Valve could theoretically decide to do it anyway, and the exact KOMODO timing could still shift.

But given the information we have right now, on September 4, I'd say the probability of Steam Frame launching on September 7 PT looks fairly low.

The September 8 JST KOMODO restock is definitely something worth keeping in mind when looking at the September 7 PT speculation.https://x.com/KOMODO_Games_JP/status/2095695945698791450

I've got one, it's a cool device but I am convinced once I have my Steam Frame this one will probably go the way of the dodo. I suspect this is to try and clear whatever inventory they have, but honestly it's probably not a big enough discount to do much.

Anyway, Ive been shaky on rumors of imminent release and then I read this email and was like, "YUP IT'S HERE!"

Question Will UEVR and treadmills work?

Hi reddit I have what might be two very stupid questions but I need to know. I'm really hyped for the steam frame for some time now but I just realized that I'm not 100% sure if I can do the things with it that i'm planning on doing.

I want to play my favourite games like Borderlands or Hogwarts Legacy with it. I know that you can use the UEVR mod to do that with other VR systems. Unfortunately my tech knowledge is enough to watch a Tutorial on how get that running but zero steps further. My question is - will I be able to have UEVR do its magic and enable me to play those games on the steam frame? I know this must Sound incredible dumb but idk how the steam frame will work and I am afraid it might only support workshop mods or like only have a big picture mode of interface and If that's the case idk how to get an external mod running.

My second question is regarding foot trackers or a treadmill. I want to really immerse myself and I heard that walking on the spot is a good way to mimic walking without getting motion sick. I am even considering the full ass treadmill setup because I've put my hopes on finally getting fit in this. My question Here is - will using either of those be possible/"standard procedure" that valve considered? I know both do take time to adjust to and are fiddly to get the settings right but what I don't know is If there might be other issues I could run into like some software being not supported or compatible with the steam frame.

I just really don't know anything about how hard- and software works and what is compatible or not. So I can definitely see myself dumping 1,5k in this to then realize I can't walk and can only Play beat saber (no offense). And I don't wanna do that so please help me understand before I make yet another stupid purchase. Thank you! :)

TL;DR:

- will i be able to play any game that UEVR makes VR playable on the steam frame?

- are there any potential soft- or Hardware compatibility issues I might run into when trying to get a foot tracker or treadmill to work with the steam frame?

- thank you! :)

edit: thank you for all the replies! and yes i do have a PC that should be able to handle it. I'm psyched to know i can play the games I want! :)

Discussion r/PCVR is now reopened! We made a place to talk about all the new VR modding & PCVR on Steam Frame, because Discord isn't cutting it.

Hi all, Lunch, Flat2VR & VR Dad here. r/PCVR is now reopened.

We wanted a central place where people could talk about everything related to PCVR and VR modding online, and discord is a closed garden a lot of people don't like. It's still the best place to get the latest VR mods and where modders live, but we wanted this information to be public and searchable online for modders & everyone.

Which is why we are reopening r/PCVR to the public!
