There are no magicians here.

Some questions will not be answered or replied to. As an example: "my game crashes" or "my download speed is slow" is not something you should even really expect an answer to. Troubleshooting and finding the solution to these issues requires a lot more information than simply stating "game doesn't launch", such as detailed information on when the issue started and how you perceive it, screenshots of any errors or the problem itself, crash logs, system specs, etc.

Consider using other things like the Steam Community Forums, an internet search engine, or a different support forum like /r/SteamSupport if no one here can offer any help. Additionally, every game on Steam has its own dedicated Community Forum, and you can also contact Steam Support regarding a specific product. Consider asking your game-specific questions there. Most games also have a dedicated subreddit.

Only Steam Support can solve personal account issues...

Game & Hardware Suggestions Megathread /r/Steam Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Thread.

Welcome to the Monthly Game & Hardware Suggestions Thread!

This monthly mega-thread is meant to contain advice, questions, suggestions & generic discussion on what to play or buy in terms of Games & Hardware.

Do you not know what to play? Want a Steam Deck or Steam Machine but unsure which model is best for you? Did you find a niche game that everyone should try? Wondering what GPU you should upgrade to or unsure about the specs of a computer? Do you want to share your unique experiences and learning curves with a piece of hardware? Can't find the perfect survival sim or unsure which 1 RPG out of the thousands available you should buy? Well this is the thread for you.

Now to make this work best and not just be spammed with generic & useless questions such as "What should I play?" or "What should I buy?", please be in-depth in what types of games/hardware you are looking for and why, and when giving advice it would be appreciated if you're more detailed than "I think X is good".

There are too many games to be able to properly suggest something with no background information, also simply commenting a game title and saying you like the game offers no actual value. The same goes for hardware: Saying you're thinking about buying X or you think Y is good with no other information, context as to why, your unique experiences, etc. offers no actual value or information to base a reply on.

Feel free to ask and discuss freely in the comments regarding games and hardware, whether you want advice on what to play, want to give advice to others on what to play, share a hidden gem you found, experiences you have with Steam hardware, or your review of a piece of Steam hardware. Generic discussions & questions about discounts, sales, events, specs is allowed as well. This is not meant to be a restrictive thread within the designated topics that this thread is for, however it is not a support thread nor is it the place to promote any blogs or curator pages or anything else, subreddit rules still apply.

Discussion Gyro aiming is such an underapreciated feature of Steam controller API

Just saw the news about a PS5 exclusive game Saros that just got a gyro aiming update, and people are celebrating. I was like

Huh, a game that's exclusive to a platform with a gyro aiming controller didn't have gyro aiming before?

And that made me realize how spoiled Steam users are, because we can virtually turn on gyro aim (and flick stick) on any game as we wish, from the latest release to some obscure classics.

Discussion Found out I had 500$ hiding in my steam account

Post image
12.0k Upvotes

So ive had my steam account for 10 years, one of my most played games is CS, with 1200hrs. Over the last maybe 3 years I havent touched the game, completely forgot about it.

Well I saw this tiktok saying you can now see your CS chats on this cs tracker website, and I was like wait let me check mine.

So i enter my username, dont see any chats probably because I havent played the game in 3 years. But something caught my eye....

Inventory value 500$?!??!?! I was like wait what? The only thing I might have worth money is CS skins. Sure enough i had 3 skins, exact same skin worth 140$ each. Dont need them, sold them. I have two other skins worth over 100$ that I would like to keep.

But yeah im shocked, I didnt realize my skins were worth anything. Might use the money to help pay for the new steam VR

Fluff This is how SteamDB is about to look, but I hope I'm wrong.

For those who don't know Nexus Mods acquired SteamDB and I am pretty scared that the website will be looking like this in a few months.

I want to clarify that I do not want to hate xPaw for his decision, it makes sense that he would burn out after so many years of running a website like this for free without ads but I am kinda sad its probably going to end like this. This is just for the memes!

Fluff Another steam support W

I bought a Steam deck around 2 years ago, recently the charger has been peeling out of nowhere for no reason, it has been getting worse over the months even though I rarely use my steam deck, so I decided to try to talk to support just in case this was a manufacturing error. Turns out, steam just decided to give me a replacement, for free.

The warranty was in a weird spot since I bought it in Spain and the duration of it was in limbo, so they just decided to give it to me without checking it further.

Another reason why steam is my #1 choice for games and will still be :3

Question Turn off monitors automatically with Steam Remote Play + SudoVDA?

I'm using Steam Remote Play with SudoVDA. Everything works, except my two physical monitors stay on during Remote Play.

Is there a way to automatically disable both monitors when Steam Remote Play starts, and enable them again when the session ends?

I also tried disabling my two physical monitors while using Steam Remote Play and leaving only the VDA enabled, hoping Steam would remember that setup.

But the next time I start Remote Play, both physical monitors and the VDA are enabled again.

Question Buy a different edition of a game immediately after requesting a refund?

I pre-ordered Halloween: The game, the standard edition. And I just now requested a refund because I want the digital deluxe instead. Can I now buy the digital deluxe edition BEFORE my refund has been processed? Or will this somehow conflict?

Discussion What is the purpose of the AI Disclosure section since so many developers are straight up lying about it? The store is full of obvious slop that claims no AI was used. Will Valve punish this at any point?

Today I saw yet another AI Slop game popping up in "Popular New Releases" feed, Lewd Dungeon Manager (be aware it's NSFW if you want to look it up), which states the following:

All visual assets and logos are created manually by our art team. Artificial intelligence tools are used only during early concept development to accelerate brainstorming. The final game contains no AI-generated content — every asset is hand-crafted by our artists.

Now this is an absolute lie. Anybody who has spent more than a few minutes playing around with local Image Generation models can tell you that those images are straight up generated renders and are in no way "hand-crafted" by artists from scratch. It's not even a question of "you can't really be sure if it's AI or not". It has the most obvious use of AI with no effort made to try and at least have it look different or cover it up. I can whip out the exact same output in a few minutes through ComfyUI.

What is the purpose of the AI Disclosure section if developers can just lie about it? If Valve really wants to take a stance, then they should at least try to set up some clear rules and enforce them whenever somebody is lying in their disclosure. At this point, for me as a consumer, it servers no purpose and I'd even go as far as saying that it goes into deceptive / false marketing territory. Yeah, I know, it's not Valve saying that, it's the developers, but at the end of the day, it's Valve that's allowing this blatantly false information to stay there

EDIT: To be clear, for this game specifically (and in many other instances that I've ran into) I'm especially referring to the Art side of things, which is obviously AI Generated and put into the final product as is or with minimal modifications. Can't speak of the code because this is not something that you can easily access. The art on the other hand is visible in the promo videos / images, so it's the easiest one to identify and call out.

It doesn't even matter what your stance is on AI art, code, etc. It's simply a matter of false information being allowed by Valve on the store page of a product.

News SteamDB Joins Nexus Mods

Thumbnail nexusmods.com
1.9k Upvotes

For now, SteamDB carries on as normal whilst we work with xPaw on the transition and start putting the team and resources it needs into it. Everything currently available for free will remain free, the browser extension will continue to be maintained, and the Discord and Steam group will remain purely SteamDB community spaces. Nexus Mods and SteamDB will also remain completely separate services, so you won’t need a Nexus Mods account to browse it.
