Announcement: No Harry Potter Content
Attention Bad Babies, Midnight Riders
(RIP Jr Mints)
We are closing the sub to Harry Potter content since ya’ll cant have civil discussions about it. We moderate the sub for fun. We don’t want to spend valuable time of our day sifting through trans hate.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs but rather than focusing on the show the discourse always ends up in anti-trans commentary, and that’s not something we’re willing to platform.
For those who genuinely engage in good faith and are excited about the series, we apologize and also believe there will be plenty of pods and subs covering the show for you to check out.
Atentamente
Your Mod Team

Friendly Reminder
Hey all, welcome into the RingerVerse. Just wanted to give a friendly reminder as the sub is growing with members that when you’re posting or commenting to please follow the rules and be kind to each other and our hosts. They are giving us a podcast that we receive for free. Being critical of a host or producer is one thing, but posting and using foul language about the hosts isn’t needed. Let’s be civil. Thanks!

WARNING: A dangerous listen
I was in the middle of a set of shoulder press when Van made the uncut joke during the Lanterns episode 3 coverage. Nearly died under the weight as the giggles set in. Close call. Be warned.

Episode 3 instant reactions debate
Just had to defend Van cuz some of the comments im seeing are wildly wrong. A lot of the people disagreeing with Van/ agreeing with Charles on the parenting is programming debate are just coping really hard.
You're born into a program and you're programmed into it. People have mutable output but the programming is still what they consist of. What Charles is arguing amounts to claiming, "if there's mutable output then it's not programming." Which is an absurd and naive argument.
Also Just had to vent real quick on the one B.S. point being made in some comments that only parents understand parenting and the midnight boys don't have kids
Its one of those things that's repeated so often people fail to notice how obviously false it is. Parenting isnt some closed off, self contained process which only parents are privy to. The person being parented is a witness to the parenting. You dont have to be a parent to comment on parenting

Lanterns episode 3 is the most viewed pod on YT in just 2 days
Idk if it's the vanity fair article or just lanterns popping off.
Midnight Boys (and House of R) are set to close the year off strong with two huge movies.
Hope we get House of Midnight before the year ends!

We should ban Lanterns content, too
There’s a lot of racially-charged content about Lanterns from the usual grifters out there, and we wouldn’t want the mods to have to sift through any of it, so let’s go ahead and ban discussing Lanterns, too.
In fact, Warner Bros in general is problematic because of their merger with Paramount and all the Mark Ruffalo stuff, so let’s go ahead and ban any discussion of IP from either of those studios. And obviously we’d have to include the MCU too, because of the Hulk, etc. The important thing is, these mods are just doing it for fun, and can’t be bothered to deal with any controversy, so let’s just make sure nothing is discussed here except weird parasocial glazing of the podcast hosts.

How connected is Lanterns to the rest of the DCU?
I’ve only seen Superman. So, no Supergirl, Peacemaker or Creature Commandos. Do any characters or events from these play a part on Lanterns?

Martian Manhunter vs Manhunter explainer
The MB mentioned they were going to do (by they I mean Jomi) a video explaining the difference between these two because people (me) were thinking the manhunter in the show was the martian manhunter.
Is that out? I checked their socials but didn’t find anything.

Harry Potter Coverage Question
Under 4 months away from episode 1. Tomorrow is an absolutely massive day of content with the new trailer/interviews/etc.
If this was ASOIAF or Star Wars or LOTR etc..? We would have had a breakdown of the 2-min-long teaser months ago. And we’d have had references to tomorrow’s event more than once, accompanied by a schedule or plan for when one or more pods would cover tomorrow’s event.
Instead it continues to be nearly complete silence from all at The Ringer.
We know why—that’s clear. And I don’t begrudge anyone their opinion on the matter.
But it feels unfathomable a show this big won’t be covered by The Ringer. Bill doesn’t let stuff like this get ignored—no matter the author’s tweets.
So I guess I’m curious if anyone has thoughts as to how they eventually end up covering this? Do they go out and bring an established HP pod in house? Do the obvious candidates of Mal/Jo end up covering it? Is Bill hustling to try and get Jason into the fold on this? Are they actually just going to surprise and ignore it?

Did anyone else think Buddy was incredibly slow and weirdly paced?
I’m kind of surprised by the reviews for this. I didn’t hate Buddy, and there’s a lot about the concept and production design that I liked, but I thought the pacing was really bad.
What’s strange is that it’s only about 95 minutes long, but it felt much, much longer to me.
The opening establishes the children’s-show parody pretty quickly, but then the movie keeps returning to variations on essentially the same joke. I kept waiting for it to move on.
Then once it does start expanding the world, the pacing becomes even more uneven. ISome sections drag while other developments happen surprisingly quickly. I’m not convinced there’s enough here to sustain a feature.
There are individual scenes and ideas I really liked, but for a movie this short, I was shocked by how often I found myself checking the time.
Anyone else feel this way?
