I am a mod of a subreddit. We decided to backup the entire contents of it, in case of Reddit closed. So we took it as a JSON.

But we want to migrate that a self-hosted reddit alternative platform . It should support deep nested replies, images, vidoes , all types of Reddit posts and all post contents of Reddit.

Suggestions please.

I've spent the last year talking to people who facilitate peer support in LGBTQ+, kink, and ENM spaces. Therapists moonlighting as community educators. Advocates running Q&As inside Facebook groups. Experienced practitioners hosting workshops in Discord servers with no moderation structure and zero permanence.

Every single one of them said the same thing: the platform gets in the way.

Content disappears. New members can't find the resources that took hours to curate. A conversation that could have been a structured psychoeducation session becomes a 200-message thread nobody can navigate. And the whole thing runs on the facilitator's personal goodwill with zero infrastructure backing them up.

These communities deserve better than repurposed group chat tools. The people doing this work deserve a space built for what they're actually doing.

I'm building Unbound Minds - a peer advocacy hub specifically for LGBTQ+, kink/BDSM, and ENM/polyamory communities. Not therapy. Not a crisis line. A structured, identity-affirming space where facilitators can run events, host discussions, and contribute curated resources that actually stay findable.

The platform has dedicated areas for each community, authenticated profiles, and a moderated discussion structure that separates open threads from facilitated sessions.

Honestly curious: for those of you who do this work - what's the one thing that makes your current platform feel like it's working against you?

Nobody's there yet, so you will be early. Sub creation isn't implemented yet either, though the backend is built for more subs. There's one open sub for now (s/lounge, covers gaming, tech, random and ask), and I'll add more once there are people. Still working on it, so things will keep changing.

Hey everyone,  I've been working on Knotra for a while now and it's finally live. There are a couple of communities and a few users, mainly friends. Since it just launched, most of the posts are still from me.

I wanted to keep things simple and modern. Posts have up/down votes like Reddit, but I went a different direction with comments and use reactions instead. The idea is to give people a little more meaningful feedback on their comments than just an up or down vote.

All you do is host your own website and link to others with hyperlinks. At the footer of your website are small images which constitute, get this, a "web ring" of other websites you trust/vouch for, so people can explore your "network".

Your webring is the people you wanna associate with.. If you want new people in your webring you can just google.

People can respond to what you post on their own websites. If you want to automatically include these as comments on your posts without a cgi or javascript mess, you can network with your webring using the webmention W3C web standard.

Delivered by the magical defederated protocol called "HTTP". You host your own website so little to no censorship, especially if you self-host or pick a good server provider. People also stay notified with RSS, a new post notification system external to a browser.

Wassup y’all, I’m not super active on Reddit but I’ve been working on an idea and figured this was probably a good place to ask.

The idea is a platform around creators, fans, communities and internet culture: people can nominate creators, creators can submit themselves, users can discover and vote for creators, do rankings/polls, find similar creators based on their vibe, etc.

But the main thing is I want to build it with the community from the beginning, instead of building everything myself and calling it “community-driven” afterward.

So I’m curious:

1. What would you add, change or remove from something like this?
2. What would make you actually use it?
3. And what would you call it?

I’d like the name to have something to do with culture, but other than that I’m open to anything.

We're all here looking for a solid Reddit alternative. What if we just build a new, independent platform from scratch? Something completely open, anonymous, and with real free speech—like a mix between Reddit and the old 4chan.

Since I do web and backend development, I can start putting the infrastructure together. But before I write any code, I have one major doubt: if we actually launch it, will people care enough to switch over? Or is everyone just too used to Reddit to actually leave?

What do you guys think? Is it worth putting the effort into building this?

[ THE BOARD ] has been on free domains since it's creation (originally on Infinityfree, then on Alwaysdata), but now I coughed up enough money to get an actual domain from Namecheap, the-board.xyz!

I think that having an actual domain gets [ TB ], one step closer to actually being good.

I also got a troll from Gyrate.org telling me that any TLD that isn't .com, .net, or .org would destroy my computer, and give me AIDS, which is obviously satire.

I saw that on one of his Gyrate comments, he says that he goes around this subreddit and tries to get banned from Reddit alternatives as fast as possible, so watch out for that guy (I know you are reading this).

It's a reddit alternative for those who want a place to discuss interesting things in a warmer setting without public upvote counts or feeds, where your conversations don't last forever and aren't available to everyone who searches your username on google.

At Pollen, temporary chat tables start with an open-ended question.

Picture this: someone into gaming, a biologist and a programmer walk into a bar;
then the barman asks them a question where they all can add something.

Your interests or what you're curious about is mixed with what others who joined are into.
So everyone can share their viewpoints.

There are different types of questions
You can discuss them, riff on them, or ignore and talk about something else.
There's no way to predict what will be asked.

You can also interact with people in the following ways:
- by the river.
- through Pollen people drop in the forest.
- by giving and receiving Pollen in chats
(e.g. when someone says something you appreciate).
- dms

It's available both on web and mobile as a browser installable app, which works the same as a playstore app.

I think we’ve all been there. You need some information from Reddit or a Facebook group, so you join the group, and suddenly your social feed is full of things you didn’t really ask for. Your own social posts, friends’ posts, and group posts all get mixed together. On top of that, useful information is scattered across different groups and platforms.
That’s the problem I’m trying to solve with LetsManthan- Nepal’s Community & Discussion Platform

The mission is simple: collectively organize useful information, discussions, and knowledge related to Nepal in one place and slowly build a useful information catalog for Nepal.

I’d really appreciate it if you could check out the project. Your feedback is basically the fuel for fixing the “vibecoded” parts .
