community Self-serve: Flair posts as resolved, award points

If you, the original poster (OP), post with the Help Request flair, and receive a helpful answer, you can award a point to that user and flair the post as Resolved.

To do this, reply to the comment with thanks or thank you somewhere in the comment. It is case-insensitive.

What are the points for? We have been helping each other here for 14 years. It's less an incentive for imaginary points but hopefully an indication of reputation (not quite analogous to post count on the official forum). We'll see how this works out, if it does more good than harm.

You may notice mods distributing points especially if a user has not. We use a trigger command comment which you may see if we haven't deleted it after awarding. We delete since it creates clutter.

help request Kick drum trigger overlapping

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello! I’ve used Reaper for well over a year at this point, but wanted to get more into the MIDI side of things. I got my Roland TM2 drum module plugged into Reaper and all was well in the setup, until it came time to play

Absolute nightmare. Even when playing simple 8th notes, some notes would randomly skip, but the midi note is still registered. If I played long enough, the pitch of my sample would drop, despite it staying the same C2 note on the piano roll???

After about 4 hours of troubleshooting, i would guess it’d has to do with sample overlapping. My main question is? How could I make every single midi note I play be very quick. I mean, I’m playing a kick drum. I don’t exactly need it to sustain lol

My secondary question would be, has anyone got any other possible solutions? This seems to be one of those problems where no one on the internet has had to deal with, so if anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it

Thank you!!

help request Rendering/Freezing track with Melodyne introduces artifacts

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi all,

I’m tuning a bass track using Melodyne as a VST3 on the track. Everything sounds correct when I’m just listening back with the Melodyne instance active as an FX — the pitch correction is clean and there are no issues.

However, as soon as I render the track (or freeze it), I get strange artifacts and glitches/clicks in the audio that weren’t there before. I’ve attached a screenshot comparing the two: the top waveform is the rendered version, and the bottom is the same section with Melodyne still active as a live FX. You can clearly see extra spikes/discontinuities in the rendered version that don’t exist in the live-processed version.

Has anyone run into this before?

Please help

help request 2nd Pass Render not making a perfect loop

If I select a range to render within, and use 2nd pass render, shouldn't the loop be perfectly seamless? Why am I getting a little discrepancy between my end & beginning of this audio file, which is intended to be a loop? It's audible in the form of a little pop, but the real test is looking at the waveforms, which I've screenshotted below. It's clear there is a discontinuity.

Not using any post-processing settings in the Render dialogue, no tails, etc.

I must be missing something. I've gotten this to work properly before. Thank you!

help request Drum Replacement for DUMMIES?🫣

I really want to get into KickDrum replacement in reaper

I check YouTube videos but I am only hearing one single sample and that's it... I understand there's such a thing multi samples (forgive me Im old School!) but can I cheaply & easily make a realistic acoustic Kick sound..?

I just don't know how I'm gonna incorporate that with reaper

I'm really working on a budget and I only want to replace one drum (the Bassdrum/Kick) so any advice would be really awesome
thank you

help request Troubleshooting help

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi y'all I really need some help with this issue. I am using an at2020 mic plugged into a focusrite scarlett 6i6 to an old Mac. When my audio device is set to the scarlett I am able to record but can't hear any audio when I playback. The only way I can hear anything is if I set my audio device to my Mac output and plug my headphones into the aux instead of the scarlett. But when the audio device is set to my macs output I obviously cannot record anything. This becomes a big issue when trying to listen to a track while recording over it.

I am new to all this and could not find the solution available online so I would really appreciate any help with what I'm doing wrong. Thanks a lot!

help request NEW LANE COMP WITHOUT OLD COMP ITEMS

Post image
53 Upvotes

I remeber watching a Reaper Mania video where Kenny talked about lanes/comping with vocals. He would use comp into new lane then would comp a second take. Then use an action so that the previously used iteams were not reused for the second comp.

Does anyone know the name of this video, because I cannot find it. Or understand what I am asking and can explain the process to me. Thanks in advance.

What’s the best way to handle midi controllers on reaper (Linux) - like simple foot switch and a more complex instrument with pads/keys/controllers

Have an old atom sq in the cupboard and wondered I can get working or if someone had already done work.

help request How to apply default FX chain to vsti/MIDI tracks as well?

So the default FX chain functions as you'd expect when manually inserting a new track, but I can't figure out how do that with vstis. I simply drag & drop vstis, since Reaper automatically sets up the MIDI functionality etc. But what I'd like to achieve is adding a channel strip along with the vstis automatically. Any tips?

resolved Using virtual midi keyboard as a footswitch

How do i do that, i want to use the vmk to switch between my guitar presets. It worked if i put my input to midi->virtual midi keyboard but obviously the guitar didnt work because theres no input routed to that track, only the midi one. Can i get like 2 inputs in one track to put the guitar in and the vmk to use as a footswitck?

help request Using MIDI overdub with MIDI that is routed from another track

I Hi everyone, I just started using Reaper and I'm loving how customizable it is.
However I can't seem to find a solution to this problem. I mapped the pads of my MIDI controller so that each pad is triggering the C note on a different track. Everything works fine and how I wanted it, the only problem is that all the tracks need to be set to Record: Output (MIDI), so I can't use the MIDI overdub function. If I select MIDI overdub Reaper simply doesn't record anything (I guess because the MIDI is not coming from an hardware input but rather from another track). Is there another way to enable the overdub or simply another way to route the MIDI to make it appear as a sort of virtual input?
I'll leave a screenshot below to show how I currently have the tracks set up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Edit: I also just noticed that since the note filter and note transpose are on the fx chain instead of the input fx chain it also affects the playback of the recorded midi, which doesn't play correctly.

discussion I DID THE THING!

it's not done yet, but I have decent templates that I can use and improve upon. I have protools, logic, abelton and reaper each as separate configurations that I can edit and expand upon.

the goal right now it to find the key features of each DAW and implement them into it's corresponding configuration for now I'm working on logic as it's the one I'm most familiar with. The protools one is already done as it was a premade config made by Daniel Kharrat, and it works flawlessly.

abelton I feel will be the hardest cuss I won't be able to implement all the features... It just has to many to put in.

but other than that thing are now going smoothly... all it took was 2 days of troubleshooting and 4 reinstall, but hey were here now.

NOTE: what ever I write now will be me documenting the progress of this project.

SIDE NOTE: to clear any confusing, logic pro it using the reaper tips theme.

resolved I need an action that sorts selected items by volume

Hi, I chopped up a bunch of audio into three second sections and I want to sort it so the quietest item is on the far left and the loudest one on the far right. This is on one track.

I can't find anything that does that.

Thank you!

resolved How do you change defaults?

I like having snap disabled and selection to be in minutes:seconds rather than ruler time unit, but every time I start a new session, it keeps putting those things back to their original state.

How do I configure it so that snap is disabled and selection be in minutes:seconds by default?

help request Question about Scripting (Sidechain Setup with ReaComp)

I was wondering if you can modify the drag and drop to add a new send function in a way, that when you hold a certain button at the same time, it will automatically set up the send 1/2 -> 3/4 and also put a ReaComp with Detector: Auxiliary Source at the end of the FX chain. I know that this kind of works with a script by selecting both tracks and hitting a hotkey, but in that case I also couldnt get the automatic Detector: Aux Source to work. Thanks!

help request Runtime Error (Yeah, that obe)

Hey folks,

in serious need of help because a paid project is stalling due to the following:

Reaper has increased issues withe Error:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program D:\Reaper\reaper.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Thing is; Its a VST (the SINE Player from Orchestral Tools) which ran perfectly so far and only recently i started getting this error increasingly - and now i literally cannot open the project(s).

I could of course bypass upon loading, but that doesnt solve the problem.

I also installed the Microsoft Visual Libs but it obviously didnt help.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

help request yabridge keeps giving me the 'failed to start wine plugin host' error (i'm on linux mint)

the error pop-up tells me to restart reaper from the terminal to see the actual error, but i don't see any when i do.

i've tried removing and reinstalling wine by uninstalling it manually with mintinstall, but that didn't work either.

if there's any help to be provided here, i'd love to hear it!

help request Reaper Bleeding?

I’m having a weird input bleed issue with my Focusrite 18i20.

We’re recording guitar and bass simultaneously, both DI’d straight into separate interface inputs and set as separate mono channels in Reaper. Guitar is on one input, bass on another.

The problem is that while live monitoring the guitar track, I can also clearly hear the bass coming through that guitar track, almost like the bass input is bleeding into the guitar input.

This setup worked perfectly for well over a year and this has only started happening recently. Nothing obvious has changed.

Has anyone experienced this or know what could cause one input to bleed into another?

EDIT:

Thought id add 2 more bits of detail -

1 - our guitars run through seperate multi fx pedal boards, DI'd straight into the back of the board.

2 - I don't believe its a monitoring issue as the audio from the bass has actually been tracking and recorded onto the guitar audio track.

Really weird, especially as we have run this exact setup for a while with no such issues. Any help us hugely appreciated :)

help request Interface Input Muting On Startup - Windows

Post image
2 Upvotes

Edit: Solved the issue, posting the solution in case anyone else has a similar problem. I discovered the mic volume in the XBOX app settings was at 0 and this was overriding all inputs in the Windows settings. Changing this to value to 100 resolved the issue.

I'm having a problem that isn't directly due to Reaper, but it's adjacent and I'm running out of ideas on how to resolve it.

I have a windows laptop running Reaper and a Behringer UMC1820 interface that I use for my band's playback rig. Recently I've been having the issue where my none of the inputs are receiving audio in Reaper. After some digging I found that Windows is muting all of the inputs in the actual windows settings causing me to manually select and unmute each and every input I want before Reaper is able to receive the signal. The issue is that I can unmute the mic inputs, but Windows is defaulting back to mute every time the interface is disconnected from the PC. Unfortunately I can't narrow down what change caused this to suddenly be an issue.

What I've tried so far:
-Reinstalled the Behringer driver
-Reset all audio devices to default
-Disabled "Allow applications to take exclusive controls of this device" under audio devices
-Confirmed mic is enabled in privacy and security setting, Reaper is also listed as permitted use.
-Disabled fast start up
-Windows and nvidia drivers are up to date

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get these inputs to be unmuted by default again? I appreciate any help, or other subreddit suggestions that might have the answers.
