hi, i am a video editor working remotely for a RE media agency, i am planning to quite the job and work as a freelancer, so i need some honest advice before taking the decision, currently i am making $3k/m and i edit on average 6vids/day(normal walkthroughs, cinematic videos and occasionally reels for RE agents) for 6days every week, it's 8 to 10hrs of work everyday and that is why i am quitting. I did some math and found out that currently i am editing around 150vids/month and making $3k, so if i can charge on average $50/vid (which i think is a reasonable rate especially for cinematic videos) i can make $3k by only editing 60videos per month, but i don't have much idea about the freelance market, like how to get clients, how much i can charge per video and is it even possible to get 60videos per month.

Hey everyone, so recently I've been trying new stuff to add to my workflow and to experiment with some new look. And I've come across this feature on Camera Raw called "Merge to HDR" and after some research and experimenting I think all is does is just combine the RAW data from all of the bracket into one single DNG. Which is perfect since you can basically have the photos be super dark or super bright without introducing any noise. Main downside I can think of is ghosting from moving objects but you can easily handle that problem with a normal bracket and adjust it to fit the scene and the HDR final file won't align with the original bracket anymore but a simple auto-align in photoshop fixes that aswell. I have a few example photos that I've done really quick but I find this to be a pretty cool discovery. Just wanted to yap about it for a bit

Started practicing REP this month to hopefully build a portfolio, but I feel most Zillow listings have this crispy white that I'm just not getting. I assume I shouldn't need to Photoshop every single photo to achieve this? I put some of my photos below. Any help is appreciated. (I'm doing HDR)

Got my FAA license last week (🙌) and rented a DJI Mini 4 Pro to try out on a shoot

Within about 10 minutes of flying, the battery overheated. Is this normal? I am on a shoot in the (US) South where it’s high 90s/100, filming during golden hour.

Not sure if this is due to the outside heat, the fact that it’s rented, or…?

Would appreciate advice from others who have experienced this before

I’ve been looking at short property reels made from still photos, and some feel surprisingly natural while others immediately look like a slideshow with effects.

The tricky part seems to be pacing: fast zooms may hold attention, but they can distort a room. Slower movement looks cleaner, but people may swipe before seeing much of the property.

For photographers and editors here, what gives it away for you—repeated motion, fake depth, transitions, music, captions, or something else?

Is there any version of this format you’d actually feel comfortable delivering to an agent?

I’m pretty close to NYC and was thinking of relocating there. Just wondering what it’s like working there. How do you guys get around with all your equipment? Do you use cars and pay for parking or use public transportation? I’m sure there is plenty of work, but getting from place to place sounds like a pain.

TLDR: Shoot ran very late. Learned that shooting HDR with the lights off renders better color and window pulls than with lights on. Lights on = extremely dark windows even with 5 brackets. Losing light fast. About 60-90 seconds per bracket at f/5.0 iso 1600-3200.

Multiple shoots today, 5 hours of driving, and got caught in a pinch where an agent booked late with photos and agent on camera video. I accommodated her schedule but the shoot still ran late.

I’d love to reschedule but I drove so long to get here and accommodate her.

After we finished the video, we were losing light FAST. I shot stills with the lights on but the windows came out extremely dark. Despite losing light quickly, I reshot the entire house with the lights off in extreme darkness. About 90 seconds per bracket. Counter intuitively, it worked way better.

I’m more curious than embarrassed, but when I’m in a vacant house, I usually throw some music on and sing like I’m in the shower. I just thought about the fact that they might be able to hear me when I’m doing the floor plan. 😭

Looks like I will be able to do some Architectural photography. I need a SUPREME editor.

For those shooting real estate, where do you draw the line with digital cleanup?
im talking about things like boxes, cables, toys, random bags or small personal items. obviously you dont want to make the property look completely different, but some rooms photograph badly because of temporary clutter. curious what other photographers consider acceptable.

If you haven't seen it, it may be a good idea to watch it. Integrity is very important in business.

Im testing out the viability of the NikonD5000 for bracketing and a bit concerned of whether it’d be able to perform up to par. I’m just looking for it to be able to make good quality still photos nothing extraordinary.

The camera’s AE-bracketing menu offers increments from AE 0.3 through AE 2.0. My planned test is:

Three identical frames without moving the camera: −2, 0 and +2 EV
A room containing both a darker interior and a bright daylight window

What do you think of these settings? How would you test and examine its limits ?

I've gone through two video editors who started off promising but quickly just continued making mistakes that just took an ounce of common sense to avoid - and then one revision, two revisions, three revisions, and four days later I finally get most of what I wanted accomplished and just roll over and take it.

I'm tired of dealing with video editors who make stupid mistakes. How do I go about finding a competent editor?

From the outside it seems pretty straightforward. Show up, take some photos, leave.

But I’m guessing there’s always some tiny thing that turns a 30 minute job into a 2 hour headache.

What’s yours?

Do you shoot the same way for designers or differently? I think more up close shots would be involved, but other than that, would the gear and general shooting rules be the same?

For those working in real estate media — what’s one thing you think makes a property video stand out from the rest?

Everyone keeps talking about AI replacing real estate photo editors.

But I'm not convinced it's that simple.

There are basically 3 ways to handle post-production:

1. AI editing

Fast, scalable, and convenient. But what happens when the AI gets the window pulls wrong, changes colors, messes up tricky lighting, or doesn't understand the look you're trying to achieve?

1. Outsource to an editor

You lose some control, but you also get your editing time back. A good editor can learn your style and handle the images that AI struggles with.

1. Edit everything yourself

Maximum control and consistency — but is spending hours in Lightroom/Photoshop really the best use of a photographer's time?

Here's where I think the real question is:

Are photographers actually saving money with AI, or are they just trading editing costs for more time fixing AI mistakes?

At the same time, outsourcing isn't automatically better either. A bad editor can create just as many problems.

So I'm curious:

If you had 40–60 images from a property sitting in front of you tonight, which would you choose — AI, an outsourced editor, or doing it yourself?

And more importantly:

What made you stop using one of the other options?

I work a 9-5, 5 days a week, I’m free on weekends, does anyone works on weekends only? As a part-time job / side hustle? If yes what’s your experience?

I just got a phone call from cubicasa telling me about their new features to get faster floor plans since “a lot” of photographers are switching to AI editing and are left waiting for their floor plans after the edit is done. I use human editors and don’t plan on switching to AI editing because the quality isn’t there so this isn’t useful to me, but it reminded when AutoHDR called me a bit ago too telling me their new model and how good it was and letting me know to try it out.

It seems these companies are marketing harder towards photographers/media agencies pushing the same narrative, even Nathan Cool was talking about some sketchy ways AutoHDR was trying to reach him

Ever since AI came along, my workload has been decreasing month by month. Now I’m

almost unemployed. What path can help me get out of this situation?

Hi this is not anything totally serious just more for fun but does anyone have any tricks that gets the agent staying in their car, at home or at their office when youre shooting.

So many agents get in the way, stand over your shoulder, tell you to take shots you were planning on already taking.

Lol sometimes I just want to be left at the house to work.
