Hey everyone,
I’m the developer behind GCM — some of you might remember me from before.
Today I’d like to introduce you to Orbit, a new launcher that runs on the ROG Ally and also works with Xbox Full Screen Experience / Xbox Mode.
We’re still relatively early in development, but Orbit already has quite a few features. One thing that makes it different is that it’s built using a different technology stack instead of the usual C#-based approach you see in many Windows launchers.
And before the comments start: yes, I use AI as part of my development workflow. No, that doesn’t mean the project is just AI-generated code. I’ve been a software developer for around 15 years, I use AI intentionally as a tool, and every piece of code that gets merged into Orbit is reviewed by me.
I think Orbit has a lot of potential, and my goal is to turn it into a true next-generation launcher.
Some of the things I want to bring to Orbit include:
• Proper Discord integration
• User profiles and social features
• Apps like YouTube, Netflix and more directly inside the experience
• Custom themes
• Deep customization
• A UI designed specifically for handhelds and controller navigation
The idea behind Orbit is simple:
Orbit should adapt to you — not the other way around.
If you have a ROG Ally, feel free to give it a try and let us know what you think.
I’d especially love to hear what features you would like to see on the Ally and what would make Orbit your ideal handheld launcher.
Feedback, ideas and bug reports are always welcome. 🚀
