News The Move to Python 3 Begins!

As someone who spent decades in the mainframe community, I find it ... humorous ... that there are legacy Python2 code bases that are only just (or have yet to consider!) moving to Python3.

My initial estimate: 5 years.

The new boss: 12 months.

We're about 1/3 of the way through the bulk modernization on our project after 18 months, not including deployment and verifying the seams.

I wonder whose estimate will be closer 🤔

25+, depending on who you count as a "dev".

With 10, we'd be a lot closer to done.

some bosses really need to stop pulling numbers out of their asses. Why do they do that, I still have no idea.

Because CEO-types have the attention span of a 9-year old iPad kid, and if you tell them "yeah sure we can modernize our infrastructure in 6 months", they'll buy the story and greenlight your infra rebuild, and if you tell them it'll take 5 years they just shelve getting rid of the technical debt for the next 12 years.

I mean, would you want to be a CEO? I wouldn't. You'd have to be kinda stupid to want to be CEO of a tech firm.
