Moderator Annoucement The “best evidence” for the paranormal is getting harder to find every time someone asks for it.

This question is being asked several times a week at this point.

Everyone has a different standard for what they consider “credible evidence,” and what persuades one person may not persuade another. What seems to do the best job is having a personal experience, but those anecdotal stories rarely persuade anyone who wasn’t already a believer.

Either way, the best way to find this evidence is by…you know…looking for it. Try using the search function on the subreddit.

And to all of you skeptics who were genuinely convinced by a piece of evidence you found online, please post it on this subreddit!

Haunted House There’s something in my house.

My stomach is turning right now. Many weird things have happened today. My house was built in the victorian era. It has had many owners. Some doors in the house open and slam shut randomly, though that only happens if they are not FIRMLY SHUT. this is important for later.

I woke up feeling a general sense of unease. On my way to work i saw a black swan. Got home, was really, really, tired all of a sudden and had a deep nap while i was in the living room with my family. Woke up around 8.

Some time passes, and decided to stay up a late. It’s currently 1:47am and some unexplainable shit just happened. I was watching my phone, when all a sudden i hear my door open, then slam shut. My door was firmly closed before this. How did that happen? The doors in my house are old, they may close, but they need a little extra shove to not get opened by gusts of wind through the house. I shook it off.

But all of a sudden this really, really heavy spiritual weight is placed onto me. I get up and go to the toilet. Down this long dark corridor i just can’t shake the feeling that something is here with me, watching me. It’s not comforting. It’s threatening, and creepy. Like a really dark, sinister, rotten feeling. I quickly rush back to my room.

About 5 minutes later, i’m trying to light a pink candlestick for whatever reason. I just felt like it needed to be done. But before i could, i hear footsteps quickly shifting down from the corridor, passing my room, and kind of just standing around in the room next to mine. I’ve been careful not to make a sound, i’m too scared.

I’m not the type of person to believe in the supernatural or ghosts. I’m very careful not to jump to conclusions based from emotions. I try to focus on the facts. There are many different contributors to why this old house makes noises. The wind is strong outside. The house has loose floorboards. The wind can get in easily; the windows are single glazed. But the footsteps? The door opening and slamming? I know for a fact that my door was properly closed shut. The wind cannot physically open it when i shut it firmly. I cant even brush off the footsteps as the boards just creaking because THEY SOUNDED LIKE FOOTSTEPS. they were light, delicate, at first i thought it was my mum. But then i remembered she was upstairs, sleeping. It’s just my parents and me in this household. Nobody sleeps down in the room at the end of the corridor.

Question Trying to figure out who warned me

So last night I was cleaning my playstation cleaning and had the disc and all the glass cases up on the window. I fell asleep and in like a half asleep half awake state something told me to take them all down. So I woke up suddenly and took them all down. Was like 5am when i did this. Something just felt off. Then when i was at work the bar that was holding up my curtain feel and the bar smashed down onto the window sill. it would have smashed all my glass cases to pieces . What sort of ghost was this ? a loved one sending a warning? what sort of state was I in when they were talking to me in half dream/half reality state?

Encounter Sleep paralysis or something else??

A few months ago, i was helping my older sibling move out of their house. Its important to note that this house was over 100 years old and was used in world war 1 as the generals home along with the top floor being where a medic lived and treated people (the house was 3 stories) my sibling had a few roommates and they’d all already established there was 100% the ghost of a little girl living in that house. The general had a daughter so they think it was her. The 3rd floor was the known haunted floor, but other weird things would sometimes happen, just not as often on the 1st and 2nd floor. Things like lights turning on, things falling when they shouldn’t be able to, small stuff like that.
On the last night before my sibling moved out, i slept over in their room. Mind you, i had slept over in their room before, and they had lived in that house for 3 years, and nothing that weird had ever happened. But on the LAST NIGHT that they would ever sleep in this house, something weird happened. In the middle of the night i woke up to feel the bed shaking. I assumed it was my sibling getting up to use the bathroom or something, but when i adjusted myself, i relized they were still right next to me. When i lifted my head up to look around, at the very end of the bed i saw a shadowy black figure sitting facing away from me. Then when it turned around to look at me, it had white glowing eyes, and then i immediately went back to sleep.
NOW, I WAS ALSO FULLY CONSCIOUS WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING AND I COULD MOVE PERFECTLY FINE. Thats why im so confused. Ive always heard people say when they have sleep paralysis they cannot move and they’re in a paralyzed state. This is not what was happening with me. I also know this was not a dream, because i am ALWAYS aware in the morning if i had a dream, especially when i remember the dream. When the figure looked at me i basically passed out, not like a “oh my god i need to go back to sleep what was that” no like a “huh thats weird anyways” ive also literally never ever once in my life had a sleep paralysis demon either. I did take melatonin that night, but i’d been taking it months prior, and to this day ive never had anything like that happen to me. I put a picture of what it kinda looked like below, but have you had this happen?? Was this just a weird sleep paralysis thing or something else???

Question Something punched my pillow?

Could this be a sleep thing. Currently at home by myself and was napping. I felt a punch to my pillow which woke me up. None of my pets are in my room. Please tell me this is some sleep related thing, I have not really had experiences in this place before except maybe one. I heard my partner calling from upstairs, but they were in the shower.

Unexplained Something strange happened to my aunt two days ago, and I genuinely can't explain it.

This happened two days ago at around 5 PM at my aunt's house. At the time, only two people were staying there: my aunt and my grandma.

My aunt was lying on her bed in her room, while my grandma was lying in another room. Both of them were using their phones, watching YouTube and stuff, I think.

At some point, my grandma noticed something and went to the terrace. I think she went there to dry some freshly washed clothes. My aunt wasn't aware that my grandma had gone upstairs.

So now my aunt was alone in the house. The main gate was completely closed.

Suddenly, she felt someone grab her hair on the back of her head and pull it.

She initially thought it was her husband playfully grabbing her head. She turned around and looked toward my grandma's room to see if my grandma had noticed it (the doors between the rooms were open, since it was broad daylight)

Then she realized that there was actually no one else in the house.

She got terrified and immediately tried to remove that hand using her hand while holding her phone in another hand. She grabbed and touched it, trying to pull it away. According to her, it felt like the hand of a grown man.

After a few seconds, the hand suddenly let go.

She looked behind her.

There was absolutely no one there.

That's it. Later, she told all of us what had happened.

I'm a science believer, and I don't believe in paranormal stuffs, and I honestly can't explain what could have caused this. I'm not necessarily saying it was something supernatural, but I genuinely have no idea how to interpret the experience.

What do you guys think could have happened?

Experience My grandmother said something was watching the house from the tree line. Three weeks after she died

My grandmother's house sat at the end of Cutter Hollow Road in eastern Kentucky, about four miles past where the county stopped bothering to plow in the winter. She'd lived there alone since my grandfather died in 2011. I want to say up front that Ruth was not a nervous woman. She'd buried her husband, survived two knee surgeries alone, and once ran off a man trying to break into her shed with nothing but a broom handle. I bring that up because what I watched happen to her over those last few weeks was not like her at all, and I've spent a long time now trying to understand it.

I drove up every other Sunday from Lexington. Groceries, prescriptions, whatever needed fixing. The Sunday I'm starting with, I pulled in around eleven and her dog Scout didn't come to the fence like always. I found him under the porch steps, ears pinned back, staring past me at the tree line instead of at me.

Ruth opened the door before I knocked. She looked like she hadn't slept.

"Somebody was on the property last night," she said, before I even got both feet inside. "Standing right at the edge of the trees. I watched him from the bedroom window near on twenty minutes."

I asked her what he looked like.

"Just stood there," she said. "Didn't move the whole time. I only knew he was a man and not a stump because stumps don't turn their head."

She said she didn't call the sheriff because by the time she worked up the nerve to go get the phone, he was gone. She'd sat up the rest of the night in the kitchen with the lights on and Grandpa's old shotgun across her lap, though she admitted she hadn't loaded it, because she couldn't remember for certain where she'd put the shells.

I checked the tree line myself that afternoon. Found nothing but a flattened patch of weeds about thirty yards back that could've been a deer bedding down, could've been anything. I told her that's probably all it was. She didn't argue, but she also didn't look at me like she believed it, and before I left she gripped my sleeve at the door the way she never used to and told me, "Don't come early. Whatever happens, don't come before Sunday. Just come on your regular day and knock the regular way, three times, so I know it's you."

I promised her I would.

I called her every night that week. Wednesday she sounded fine, tired but fine. Thursday she said the dog wouldn't stop pacing the porch. Friday she didn't answer, and I told myself she'd just fallen asleep early, and Saturday she didn't answer either, and I told myself the same thing again because it was easier than the alternative.

I drove up Sunday instead of waiting for the following one. I know that breaks the promise I made her, but I couldn't sit with two missed calls anymore.

Scout wasn't at the fence. He wasn't under the porch either. I never found him again, not that day or any day after.

I knocked three times like she'd told me to. Nothing. I let myself in with my spare key and the house was cold in a way that had nothing to do with the weather, like the heat had been off for days. I found her in the kitchen, in her chair, facing the back door. The county coroner later said her heart had given out, probably Friday night, and that there was nothing else physically wrong with her, nothing that would explain the look on her face when I found her, which I am not going to describe here except to say that I have never seen an expression like that on a person before or since, and I hope I never do again.

I stayed after the funeral to deal with the house, because Mom couldn't manage the drive with her hip and there wasn't anybody else. I figured a week, maybe two, enough to sort through the estate and get the place ready to sell. I told myself I could handle a couple weeks alone in a quiet house. I'd grown up spending summers there. It shouldn't have felt any different than it always had.

The first night was just sad. I sat in her kitchen chair, not the one she'd died in, and I went through drawers of photographs and old bills and cried more than I expected to. Nothing strange happened. I want to be clear about that, because I think if something strange had happened that first night I would have left immediately, and maybe that would have been the smarter thing to do.

The second night, I went out on the back porch around nine to get some air, and out of habit more than anything I clicked on my flashlight and swept it across the yard toward the tree line, the same spot Ruth had described.

There was a man standing there.

He was maybe fifty yards off, right at the edge where the yard gave way to the woods, and he didn't move when the light hit him, didn't flinch, didn't raise a hand to shield his eyes the way anybody would if a flashlight caught them by surprise. He just stood there, facing the house, facing me, and I could make out the shape of his shoulders and the outline of his head but nothing of his face at all, like the light refused to land on it properly.

I don't know how long I stood there. Long enough that my arm started shaking from holding the flashlight steady. Then, without any wind that I could feel, one of the branches near him moved, and by the time I looked back at where he'd been standing, he wasn't there.

I went inside and locked both doors, which Ruth never used to bother doing, and I didn't sleep much.

The third day I told myself I'd seen a hunter, or a hiker who'd wandered off a trail, something ordinary, and that going out at night with a flashlight looking for trouble was a bad idea regardless of what it turned out to be. So that night I stayed inside after dark. Around midnight I heard something on the porch steps, slow, deliberate, one foot at a time, the kind of walking a person does when they don't care if you hear them coming. I sat at the kitchen table with the lights off and didn't move until it stopped.

In the morning I found four long gouges cut into the porch railing, deep enough to see daylight through in one spot, spaced about a hand's width apart, the wood around them splintered outward like something had been dragged across it with real weight behind it.

I should have left that day. I've replayed that decision more times than I can count. Instead I told myself I needed one more day to finish the estate paperwork, because leaving felt like abandoning something unfinished, and because some stubborn part of me, maybe inherited from Ruth herself, refused to be run off a piece of family land by something I couldn't even properly describe.

That last evening, close to dusk, I walked out to the shed at the edge of the property to grab a box of Ruth's canning jars Mom wanted. The shed sat maybe twenty yards from the tree line, closer than the house. I had the door half open when I heard it, a slow chopping sound coming from somewhere back in the trees, rhythmic, evenly spaced, like someone splitting wood except there was no woodpile back there and never had been.

I looked toward the sound instead of just walking away like I should have, and about sixty yards back into the trees I saw him standing in a thin patch of that dying orange evening light, and this time I could make out what he was holding. It looked like an axe, held loose at his side, the head catching the light in a way that made my stomach drop straight through the ground. He wasn't chopping anything. The sound kept going anyway, steady, like it was coming from somewhere else entirely and he was just standing there listening to it same as I was.

Then his head turned toward me, slow, the way a compass needle settles rather than the way a neck actually moves, and he started walking. Not fast. Just steady, straight through the underbrush like it wasn't there, straight toward the shed, straight toward me.

I dropped the box of jars. I heard them shatter behind me but I didn't look back at them. I ran for the house, and the chopping sound kept going the whole time I ran, never speeding up, never slowing down, just steady, like a clock, and somehow that was worse than if it had sped up, like whatever was making it wasn't in any hurry at all because it already knew how this was going to end.

I got inside and threw the deadbolt, and for about a minute, maybe less, I actually thought I was safe. I remember standing in the kitchen catching my breath, telling myself the door was solid oak, that Ruth's windows all had those old iron bars Grandpa put in back in the seventies for storm season, that whatever was out there couldn't get through either one.

Then the banging started.

It came from the front door, hard, like someone was kicking it or throwing their whole shoulder into it, over and over, no pause between hits long enough to be a person catching their breath. I don't know why it only ever went for the door. Looking back, I think it already knew about the bars on the windows, knew they wouldn't give, and the door was the only way in. That thought has stuck with me more than almost anything else from that night, the idea that whatever it was had studied the house before I ever got there.

I got my phone out with my hands shaking so bad I dropped it once on the kitchen floor, and I called the only number I had saved from a sign at the trailhead a few miles back, a ranger station number Ruth had stuck to her fridge for emergencies. A man picked up on the second ring and I don't remember exactly what I said to him, only that I was screaming most of it, and that he told me to stay away from the door and stay on the line.

While I was still talking to him I heard a different sound under the banging, a heavier, sharper crack, wood splitting instead of just shaking, and I understood somebody, something, had an axe against that door now instead of just hands or a shoulder. The door was old growth oak, thick enough that Grandpa used to joke you could stop a truck with it, and even so I could hear it giving a little more with every hit, a groan running up through the frame into the wall.

The ranger kept telling me they were maybe ten minutes out, five if they pushed it, and to get into a room without a door to the outside if I could. I went into the bathroom, the only interior room, and sat on the floor with my back against the tub and my knees against my chest, listening to that axe hit the door over and over, waiting for the sound to change into something worse.

Then, somewhere under all of it, I heard the low grind of an engine coming up the gravel drive, and the banging just stopped. Not slowed down. Stopped, mid-swing it felt like, and I heard something moving away from the house fast, back toward the tree line, back the same direction it had come from that first night Ruth ever saw it standing there. I didn't look. I stayed on that bathroom floor until I heard boots on the porch and a man's voice calling out that it was the rangers.

There were two of them. They walked the property with flashlights and rifles slung over their shoulders, though they told me straight out they weren't going into the tree line that time of night for anybody, and I didn't argue with them about it. When they came back around to the front, the older one, a heavyset guy named Wickline who didn't say much, just stood there looking at the door for a long time without touching it.

There were four or five deep gouges raked down through the paint that looked like nail marks, too long and too even to have come from an animal, and a dent punched into the middle of the door itself, low, about waist height, like it had taken repeated blows from something heavier than one man could swing on his own, over and over in the same spot.

Wickline didn't explain any of it to me. He asked me a few questions, wrote something down, and told me flat out I shouldn't be staying there alone anymore, not that night, not any night after, and something in the way he said it told me he already had an idea what had been at that door, even if he had no intention of telling me what it was. I've thought since that whatever he knew, he'd decided it wasn't the kind of thing you explain to somebody who's about to leave anyway.

I spent that night at the ranger station instead of the house, sitting in a folding chair by a space heater while Wickline sat across from me not saying much of anything, and in the morning I drove straight back to Lexington and did not stop to collect a single thing I'd left behind.

I have not been back to Cutter Hollow Road since. The house still hasn't sold. Mom asks me sometimes if I'll drive up and meet the real estate agent out there, just to walk through it one more time, make sure everything's in order.

I always tell her I'm busy that week. Every single time. I don't think I'll ever tell her why.

Experience Shadowy Blob at Cemetery

I work for and with my father in law and brother in law (that’s not the scary part lol) and today after work, we stopped by the cemetery to visit my father in laws late wife (my wife’s mother) since we worked close to her cemetery. We aren’t really the sentimental type, we just like to go visit her and clean up her plot a bit. I was FaceTiming my wife with her brothers phone, pointing the camera towards my FIL and BIL pulling out some plants that unfortunately did not last. While the camera is pointed at my FIL, I notice a shadowy blob standing behind his left shoulder. It’s was hovering behind him, about 3’ tall and 2’ wide. Dark gray see through shadow is the only way I could describe it. I thought it was a smudge or a hair on the lens so I wiped it off but it was still there. I asked my BIL if he had an issue with his camera and he said he never saw that happen before. He waved his hand in front of the camera and a few seconds later it disappeared. My BIL, my wife, and I both saw it through the camera. I don’t know what it was but I did not have any negative feelings about it. Just completely neutral. My brother in law does not believe in the supernatural but was uneasy. My wife is on the fence too, but she also knew it was something. Anyone have something like this happen to you? I’m incredibly intrigued as I have not had any sort of ghostly encounter since I was a kid.

Apparition Doppleganger or Something Else?

In December 2020, my mom, who lived 1200 miles away, texted me to say she had a strange experience. It has never left my mind. It still gives me goosebumps to this day when I think about it.

She and my whole family are very in tune with the other side. They see ghosts, know things before they happen, etc., but this one was especially strange.

She texted me that something woke her up a bit earlier than she normally would in the morning. She felt as if someone was in her room and actually saw a little girl in a white dress and veil standing at the foot of her bed, smiling at her. She was not happy about the apparition and rubbed her eyes, wondering if she was seeing things. It didn't help. The little girl in white was still there.

She lay there frozen, trying to process it, and finally, not liking the experience, she yelled out loudly, causing the little girl to disappear right away.

What my mom left out of the story came in a separate text to me hours later. The text read...

"I didn't really want to tell you this, but the little girl in the white dress and veil I saw at the foot of the bed today.......Was You."

I got instant goosebumps and a feeling as if someone had walked over my grave. To this day, even with psychic abilities, I still can't figure out what happened that day or why.

So what do you think of the little girl in white?

Unexplained Weird Crying Sound in South Florida College

So I was up late the other day, roaming around my college after a workout and came across something very unsettling. A faint sound which almost resembled a female crying or sobbing. For context, I go to FAU in Boca Raton and typically don't find myself hearing anything abnormal at night, just racoons or an occasional sprinkler going off. This time it was different. I was at the humanities building looking at the boards that contain all the fliers for student events when I heard a crying sound for around 3-5 seconds. I decided to investigate, thinking to come across a girl upset about a breakup or something along those lines, but no. Nobody was upstairs where I heard it. Literally nothing at all, just empty and eerie. The minute I realized that what I heard was not an actual human I ran down the stairs and left campus. Is there any type of animal in south florida that sounds similar to a woman crying?

The humanities building in FAU was my go to place to relax and now I'm frightened to go back.

NSFW / Trigger Warning My paranormal experiences (take with a grain of salt). Spoiler

Uhm, no spoiler and no flair, seriously....Well except for my friend's mom getting attacked, nothing weird here. Just read.

I am not saying anything further about these experiences but they are what I truly experienced and what haunts me to this day.

My grandmother's home and the area was known to be haunted. There were several slave graveyards in the area as this is the deep south.

  1. I was 5 years old and spending the night at my grandmother's home with my mom. I woke up to a blue flame in the fireplace and woke my mom up screaming. My mom and family are super religious and she held onto me till it went away as she quoted prayers. Lots of things went on in that house while she grew up but I won't document her experiences just mine. Too many things happened to her and her brothers and sisters and I won't get them right.

  2. The next day I disappeared while outside playing. They found me crying on the stairs going into the attic. There were several things in front of the attic door and no other way into the attic. I have no recollection on how I got there.

  3. Kids used to make fun of me talking about my experiences. My friend's mom used to run in the neighborhood and came upon a woman picking flowers one early morning. She asked about what kind of flowers and the woman turned around and disappeared. My friend said he didn't believe his mom but she refused to run the same route again. Unfortunately the route she ended up taking (she ran miles) put her in some very remote places and she was eventually attacked. She ended up running with a .38 special after that but said she would never take the safe (haunted) route again.

  4. My mom and I were driving home from my grandmother's home one late afternoon. There was a gentleman named Jess that always gave me an apple when we stopped by his place. We saw him at the end of the road and my mom asked him what he was doing out so late. He said he was waiting on a friend. My mom called my grandmother when we got home as my grandmother checked in on other elderly people and she said he died a week ago.

  5. One of my friends that used to laugh at me lived in the same neighborhood until he went into the woods and found one of the graveyards. Lights surrounded him and he couldn't escape for a half hour crying out to his parents. He was 18 at the time and said he felt like a child crying for help.

  6. My grandmother built a new home next door to the old home. I was 19 at the time and had been out with my friends (no no drinking). I was taking my one friend home (graveyard dude), and we drove by the old house and saw my uncle's dog on the porch. Samson was very unique as he was part Husky and part Timber Wolf and was very noticeable. My friends all knew the dog because we stopped many times to pet him. Unfortunately he had cancer and died 3 years earlier.

  7. I dated a girl in college that said she had precognition abilities. I didn't believe her but she could specify a bird would land, and the type of bird at the end of our picnic table to prove her point. I took her to my grandmother's home and we went inside. It really wasn't safe as the floor was falling through but she wanted to go in. Her nose immediately started bleeding and she demanded I take her home the next day as she shivered all night (she lived a few counties away). We stopped dating afterwards.

  8. Note on my grandmother's home. There were 4 oak trees surrounding the home. The roots only grew towards the home. In 1974 several tornadoes came through. I was 2 weeks old and we survived in the cellar but everything outside of the 4 oak trees was destroyed but nothing inside them was touched. My grandfather was FBI. He would neither deny or confirm the shit that went on in that house but he said on his death bed that he hated living in that house. No explanation was given but little scared that man, but when talking about that house, he was scared.

I had a gap in experiences for many years. I even lived in a home in Pittsburgh from the 1800s. My ex used to say someone was always standing over her but only when she was pregnant. I never experienced anything and she was skeptical but she said she couldn't shake the feeling when she was pregnant with our two kids.

I moved into a house in Florida in 2023, built in 1980. The bedrooms where the kids stayed had external locks. I took them off but why would there be external locks? What I have experienced is when taking a shower, in the bathroom adjacent to my office, the door will open. I put new grasps in the door frame as I thought they were just old but it still opens. I tied it off one time and it still opened, as though the knot came unloose. Nothing is malicious but like kids playing pranks. My office is in one of the rooms the kids stayed in. My wife loves to stay in my office (spare bedroom) but I always feel weird doing so. My cat likes to stay in our offices (prior kid bedrooms). She meows loudly in the middle of the room and she always brings in a specific toy. She never did this in my old house ior our apartment prior to moving into this house.

Anyway I know people share. These are mine.

Shadow People A familiar face watches me while I sleep…

Post image
118 Upvotes

When I was freshly postpartum and sleep-deprived, I can remember suddenly jolting awake to see what looked like a 5 year old boy standing in front of our closed master-bathroom door. There was light escaping from the bottom of it because my boyfriend was taking a late-night shower before coming to bed. My infant was sound asleep in the bassinet next to me. As soon as I saw the silhouetted figure, I called out “What is that?” “What the fuck is that?!” and tried to squint my eyes so I could see it more clearly through the darkness. What’s weird is that I wasn’t afraid of this young child—he had curly hair and his presence felt weirdly familiar…

Fast forward to over a year later, my son (1.5 y.o.) is sound asleep in his crib next to my bed. I was also asleep until my son’s screaming startled me awake. He usually never cries when he wakes up—he’ll just whine for me a couple of times until I pick him up and bring him to bed. This time was different. My eyes immediately went to the far side of the room, where I saw that little boy’s shaded figure again. At first, my mind thought HE was the one crying. It took me a few seconds of squinting my eyes and trying to make out the face before the figure faded into a shadow from the rocking chair.

Although, these occurrences are likely from stress and lack of sleep, it’s pretty entertaining to imagine that this could be something deeper. Especially considering the figure seems familiar. The older my son gets, the more he resembles this figure. Maybe he’s visiting me from the future??? I’m only kidding…but like???

Experience Experience Left Me Afraid of Living Anywhere but in Towns/Cities

This happened when I was a teenager, I think about sixteen (and I'm thirty-three now), so it's been a while, but its stuck with me all these years. And for some reason, it's been preying on me recently (it's been in my thoughts a lot, I mean) so I'm posting my experience here to, I don't know . . . get it off my chest, I guess?

Fair bit of backstory: I live in a fairly rural area in Western Kentucky. So horses are huge here and I've grown up with them. When my family and I first moved to my childhood home, there was nothing about it that struck out as, "Hey, don't live here". And even when we moved in, there was nothing out of the ordinary that would have raised any flags. We didn't have horses on our land immediately, but once we got it fenced in, built a barn, etc., then we got horses full time and, as every horse owner knows, with horses comes horse feeding twice a day.

We had 21 1/2 acres of land, much of which was forested. And those woods. There was something wrong with those woods. You know how when you walk into woods, you can hear birds, you see squirrels, wildlife, that kind of thing? These woods were silent. Dead silent. In the middle of the county. You walked into them and its was like the world around you held its breath. That's the only way I can describe them. You saw zero wildlife. No birds, squirrels, rabbits, nothing. It was like the woods had been abandoned. During daylight, they weren't bad to be in, but at nighttime? I never went into those woods at night. And, unfortunately, those woods were right by the barn.

We brought the horses into the barn to feed at night and during the winter it was unavoidable that I would have to do this at night. The walk back up to my house from the barn was maybe a five minute walk. Most of these I did make with our farm dogs.

Okay, now for the creepy encounter that won't leave me alone. And I'm going to state this now: for the entire fifteen years we lived there, we had zero evidence of coyotes or wild dogs encroaching on our land. We always kept farm dogs (Great Pyrenees and similar breeds) so they kept predators away from our horses and our home. I'm fairly confident this wasn't an animal predator.

It was winter. Night time. Just got finished feeding the horses. I HATED walking back up at night because I always felt like something was watching me. This night, I don't know what was different, but as soon as I had taken five steps away from the barn, I felt this "presence" behind me. Like how you feel when you know someone is walking behind you. It had "weight". There were eyes on my back, something behind me was following me up to the house, the whole nine yards. And the whole way up to the barn, there was this voice in my head, different from my regular stream of conciousness, going: "Keep your eyes on the ground. Do not look up. Do not look behind you. Keep walking. Do not run. You look behind you and you will not like what you see. Do not look behind you." My dogs were whimpering and looking behind us the entire time, too. And these were farm dogs. They weren't cowardly dogs. But they legitimately looked afraid of whatever was behind us. However, the feeling went away when I reached the house, and while the "feeling" never came back to that extent, I always felt eyes on me at night, even when I was on my back porch. And I had other experiences there too. For example, I had a window AC unit in my bedroom and most nights during the summer I would smell decay coming in through it intermittenly, even when I knew there was nothing dead beneath my window because I would go out multiple times and check. That kind of stuff.

Now, I've done some research on my county and apparently, my county in particular had some pretty notable Civil War moments. I can't help but wonder if that particular land is "sour" because of it. I don't live there anymore, I live in the nearest town, and my partner wants to buy land to live in the county but I don't want to. What if whatever that was "found me"? I have this sinking suspicion that if I were to live in the county, it would. And that terrifies me.

Like I said, I have no idea what this could have been. For all I know, I was just a teennager with a hell of an overactive imagination. But I know what I "felt" and I have never felt anything even remotely like that since. So, yeah. What are you guys' thoughts? Was I crazy as a teennager? Or did I have an encounter with something unexplainable?

Unexplained Strange experience with ceiling and object moving

I had a very strange evening a few nights ago.

I was sitting in bed and I had a strange sensation like the ceiling was moving downward. It is hard to explain exactly but it was sort of like the ceiling moved downward like an elevator but only in my peripheral vision. When I looked at the ceiling, it was normal.

About 1 min later, an item literally jumped off my desk. It was a charger in a plastic baggie and it was about 5 inches away from the edge and it suddenly flew onto the floor. My husband was in the bathroom, my kids were asleep and I was sitting in my bed about 4 feet away.

It was very creepy and I am not sure if this means something or if anyone had some sort of weird ceiling dropping sensation before.

Any thoughts are appreciated. I have witnessed some other strange things happening in our house (a wax burner turning itself on periodically, a musical card playing the happy birthday song when I was on the phone with my niece when the card was in the top of the closet etc.) This is the first time I actually have seen something move or change.

Thank you.

Experience My experience: The only paranormal thing I remember

You might not believe this, but I once heard my computer speak. It simply said "bears" a few days after talking to Chatgpt about a weird missing 411 case involving a bear. It was so real. The reason why I'm sharing it is because I'm a HUGE skeptic like, wouldn't believe you if you told me. Fuck dude this shit was serious. Nothing that produced sound was on, and it was with this CREEPY robotic voice that just hmm idk man. Has anyone ever experienced something similar?

Shadow Man I Saw the Hat Man in Broad Daylight

My parents live on a rural country road, and when I visit them, I like to go on walks down it. There is a section of the road where it dips into a little valley that is surrounded by dense woods and thus always in the shade, and that makes it several degrees cooler than the rest of the road. I always got an odd feeling when walking through this little valley, like I was being watched. As I walked along it, something would always rustle in the woods, always trailing a few yards behind me, as if I was being followed. Everytime I would look over, though, I'd see nothing, and the rustling would stop until I turned and started walking again.

When I got my dog, I started taking her on my walks. She walked next to me just fine until we reached the top of the hill where the road starts to dip down into the valley. As soon as we reached the shade, she freaked out, pulling at the leash to go back towards home. It startled me enough that I let her take me back that time. But this can all be explained, right? A weird feeling is just that: a feeling. The rustling could easily be a squirrel, a rabbit, or some other woodland animal, and I only felt like it was following me because I was already creeped out by that section of the road. My dog is a rescue and tends to be skittish, so her reaction was normal too. Everything was perfectly explainable.

Until one day it wasn't. One day, I was walking my dog through that valley, tugging her along because she was being really reluctant again. I noticed something up ahead, something black. It was right at the end of the valley, where the road starts to go up again, and the trees break into a field, letting the sunlight come through. I kept staring at the black thing, trying to figure out what is was. It must be a shadow, I thought. Perhaps a tree is casting a shadow across the road. I keep walking towards it, and, well, it's awfully dark to be a shadow, especially in the middle of the day. Most shadows are grayish, not black like this, so maybe there is something black lying on the road, some litter, perhaps? I keep walking towards it, not really concerned.

I look around me, and then look back ahead and suddenly I see so clearly that the black thing is a figure. A humanoid figure, wearing a wide-brimmed hat. It is standing very still right at the edge where the shade of the woods meets the sunlight. I stare at it, trying to understand what I am seeing. I realize that I am still walking towards it, and suddenly that fills me with alarm. I turn and walk briskly back the other way, much to my dog's relief. I don't look back. Once I am out of sight of the figure, I start to run. I don't know why, but I felt very strongly that I needed to get away from it.

Now, here are the reasons why I think this was not a person:

  1. It just appeared. There was a black shape that I thought was a shadow or a piece of trash, and then suddenly it was humanoid. I don't typically mistake people for shadows or trash, even at a distance.

  2. It just stood there. I've encountered other people plenty of times on my walks, and we always wave or acknowledge each other in some way, much like you do on a hiking trail. This figure made no acknowledgment. It didn't move at all. It just stood there, for a really long time.

  3. It was SO black. I couldn't make out a single feature. Even sillouhetted against the sunlight, I should have been able to see SOMETHING. But all I could tell is that it was humanoid and wearing a brimmed hat. Everything was black.

So, what do you think? For the record, I was not under the influence of anything, and it was early to mid afternoon on a sunny day. Did I see the Hat Man in broad daylight? I think I may have.

Debunk This I think I’m being hunted

It started two weeks ago. I was returning to my bedroom at midnight and saw a shadow on the wall. It made my knees fail and I almost dropped to the floor. Ok, I thought maybe it was just projected fear.

Then, this week, things started to worsen. One night I woke up to my led lights turned on, out of nowhere. Maybe an energy issue? But then, one night, at 2:47 am I woke up (I always sleep through) with an unexplained fear. I was sure something was hunting me and wanted to get into my room, which is locked. I kept falling asleep and seeing/hearing things. I saw a blonde woman in my “short” dreams (I was sleeping, dreaming then waking up, but knowing how to differ reality from my mind), she was watching me from the side of my bed. The next one, I heard several loud bangs on my door, like when someone is mad and want to get into your room. That freaked me the f out and I could only sleep when the sun rose.

The next day, my blanket was heavier. Don’t know how to explain it. I felt a presence on top of it and refused to get out of under it until it went away.

But the worst experience was today. I woke up exactly at 3 am like “oh boy here we go again”. Tried to act like I wasn’t scared and went to sleep with the lights on. When I was almost succeeding, I heard a loud bang on my door. Like someone punched it, but since it was locked, nothing happened. I’m 100% sure I was awake this time. No, this kind of noise NEVER happened, specially not at MY door.

I do not live alone, but my parents never make this kind of noise at night and the sound they make are further. Not at my DOOR.

My family does have an issue with the paranormal. My sister always have had sleep paralysis in this house (she moved and it stopped) and my cousin has had the same scary experience happen to her twice after watching the same scene of the same movie, decades apart. She’s usually pretty skeptic. And I’ve already dreamed that I was being posessed, and had similar issues with movies (lights turning off in the middle, internet suddenly stopped working, weird noises etc.).

I sure do hope you guys say it’s just paranoia. But I’m scared enough to come here and ask for help. I feel like something is mocking me before actually hunting me. Like a slow burn. I can’t sleep anymore. It’s not about only fear anymore. I’m actively seeing/hearing things. But at least I have myopia, so if anything bizarre actually shows up, I’m not going to see it lol.

Encounter The Thing in My Cousin's House

I've been housesitting for my great cousin for a few days now because he had to go abroad. He lives alone, and the house is kind of old, situated near a small patch of forest. He only moved in a few years ago, after his wife passed away. I've visited him there a few times, but my visits were always pretty short.

Ever since I arrived, I've had this weird feeling that I'm being watched. I'm not a jumpy or skittish person, so at first I just brushed it off as me not being used to staying in an unfamiliar place for days at a time.

On my first night, I was watching TV in the living room when I noticed some quick movement in my peripheral vision. When I turned to look, there was nothing there. Later that night, I was brewing some tea in the kitchen when the back of my neck suddenly started tingling.

I looked over my shoulder and saw what looked like the silhouette of a head peeking out from behind the study door. The door faces the corridor that leads into the kitchen. I blinked, and it was gone.

I yelled, "Who's there?" as I walked into the corridor to turn on the light. Then I went straight into the study. There was nothing there. All the windows were still shut tight.

Honestly, that's when I started getting really freaked out. But I'd never experienced anything remotely supernatural before, so I tried to convince myself that my eyes were playing tricks on me. The corridor was pretty dark, and it was only partially lit by the light from the kitchen.

Then, last night, it happened again.

I was lying on the couch in the living room, scrolling through my phone. All the lights were off, but the TV was still on, casting a dim blue glow across the room.

Then I saw it again in my peripheral vision. The head peeking out from behind the study door. Except I was pretty sure I'd closed that door earlier. This time, though, I didn't move. I just lay there, pretending I hadn't noticed it. Then it started slowly coming out from behind the door. First its head. Then its shoulders. Then the rest of its body.

It was tall. So tall that its head almost touched the ceiling. It just stood there, watching me in complete silence. I could feel my heart pounding so hard in my chest that my whole body seemed to lock up with fear.

But then I quickly turned on my phone's flashlight and pointed it at the thing. What I saw next is something I'll probably never forget. It looked like a human being. A tall, incredibly skinny man with unnaturally long limbs. But it had no visible features. No face. No clothes. Nothing. Just a completely featureless, human-shaped silhouette.

I let out a gasp, and my phone slipped out of my hand. The flashlight went out, and suddenly everything was dark. I immediately jumped off the couch, grabbed my phone from the floor, ran to the front door, and bolted into the front yard. I spent the rest of the night at a friend's place. I only came back in the morning, with him and another friend.

I've already told them everything that's happened, and thankfully, neither of them is making fun of me. They're staying here tonight, and my cousin is supposed to fly back tomorrow.

I've done some Googling and found a bunch of articles about Shadow People. But unlike most descriptions of shadow people, this thing didn't make me feel any sense of dread or evil when it was watching me. If anything, it felt... curious. That's honestly the only way I can describe it.

So... what the hell is this thing?

Visitation Dream Woke up from my dream praying out loud.

Thought I'd share this little dream I had about a week ago.
It's quick, started with me listening to YouTube on my phone at the end of the bed and when I went to grab my phone it was gone and suddenly on the couch in my room a few feet away. Not scary but creepy. In the dream my dad who I live with didn't really believe me about it then I'm talking to him in the doorway of the bathroom, him on one side and me on the other and suddenly the door slams shut between us. I'm pulling on the door to open it but I can feel the force closing it again. I finally open the door and with my dad I'm yelling "Jesus!!" "God loves me" "God is with me!!!" "The power of Christ compels you!!" (I think that's only a thing in the movies lol I'm not sure) then I started praying the Hail Mary (obviously this probably wouldn't do anything irl) but then I wake myself up finishing the prayer "Holy Mary mother of God..." that was it. Creeped me out maybe it's silly to you but oh well lol

Photo Evidence The Long stairs in Newcastle upon Tyne

Me and my fiancé travel across the UK for his work a lot and we have been sent to Newcastle upon Tyne a few times, where we will stay in the Travel lodge next to the Wetherspoons on the quayside. When we travel into town we take the very steep stairs across the roads. We knew nothing about the stairs but it made me feel very uncomfortable from the first time we went there. It looks very ominous in itself and it's pretty dirty and a dark place so I didn't think about it further than that until my fiancé took some pictures of the stairs and a very strange figure showed up In one of them. At the time of taking the photos there was noone on or near these stairs and we have a picture taken right before that looks totally normal. I won't tell you what I see because I want people to tell me their own thoughts on this. You might want to zoom in a little. I am avoiding the stairs on our next visit and will be taking the long way around to go into town from now on.

Question Does Anyone Know What This is?

Post image

A bit of context; I’m a tradesman and we have been working on a property that burned down a year ago. The fire started in the living room of this house. In the area where the fire started this cabinet was found. It’s old. Not just old but…old old. And it has dry cracking parchment covered in characters lining the inside. It’s already alarming that the cabinet didn’t burn when the house around it did. Not even the paper inside was singed. Inside was a small tag (I didn’t grab a pic of it since I was a bit weirded out) that said “My dear Mr *****. Always remember the tune that put us children to sleep”. Throughout the home were several tall skinny statues of the same man with no facial features other than a wide grin. Every morning throughout the jobs duration, we would come in to see about 15 chairs in a large circle in the living room. We asked several times that the owner stop moving furniture into the home during construction. But all he said was “I’m sorry but we have to watch the sun”. I’m not a superstitious person, but I’d be lying if I said all of this doesn’t make my skin crawl a bit. Does anyone know what might be happening? Is it some sort of religion?

Trigger Warning / Death I’ve seen myself pass away multiple times now.

When I was 14 I had a massive seizure and saw a lady in black robes carry my soul out and put a new one in.

When I was 18 I saw myself in a car crash that KOI me.

At 24 I dreamed I committed suicide and saw my own funeral, saw the lady in black again putting the old soul back in.

Few years later dreamed of a banquet with my friends who had passed before me and what appeared to be copies of myself standing in a room

At 31 I saw a break in, where I was shot, shortly after was diagnosed bipolar

At 33 i dreamed I’d had a heart attack and passed at home in bed, saw the ambulance take my body

And at 35 i saw another suicide and the funeral again but everyone was older.

Do you think these series of dreams are connected to the bipolar? Or breaks in a timeline that I keep surviving?

Every-time I have these dreams I have this intense and visceral feeling of de-personalization when I wake up. Like I have to remember who I am.

It’s so jarring and always leaves me with this sensation of a passenger being handed a steering wheel.

Question Hello everyone 3 knocks when I'm alone and not recording.

I'm just here to tell you about a thing that has been happening in my home when I'm alone each night at 11:30pm there was this knock I talked with chatgpt and said maybe some electronics or pipes or house moving okay... It happened for a couple months and stopped thought nothing later on appeared and thought there were no pipes no electronics, just a wall. Started waiting when it appeared sounded like knocking on wood but I couldn't remake the sound anywhere I tried recording and the sound didn't show up but later in the night started. Okay went through forums and some said to tell it to stop doing it and it was gone for a month later it was back and gone again now today it hasn't been here but I have an uneasy feeling and nobody believes me am I going crazy? I know it'll repeat maybe the fact that I got a pet it's gone as I'm not alone?

Literally feels like whatever is doing it is pranking me. Has anyone experienced this? One night from hundreds of times it was 3 reapeats of 3 knocks paced out evenly but the knocks seemed to be changing.

They're slow and long knocks.

Trigger Warning / Death At 28, I saw my dad the morning he died in a dream and peed myself in my sleep out of … realization?

Background: my dad moved back to our hometown to retire, in a different continent, where he would either come visit us or we go visit 2-3 times a year.

One day we were unable to reach him. After trying different avenues, we found that he had been in a car accident. It was a hit and run by a van, while he was on foot. He had lots of injuries that I’m sure you can imagine, and that I will not mention.

Half of my immediate family travelled to figure out what to do, what needs to be done, what’s the current situation,.. etc. the other half was me alone in a continent, and a sibling with their family in a different continent.

We went back and forth on whether or not we should also go, but repeatedly got told there was nothing we can do, she was in a coma unresponsive and doctors refuse to take any action until he wakes up (I don’t even know if that’s how things should go).

2 weeks passed, nothing changed.

Then one night I’m deep asleep, I dream that I’m in an unknown location, it’s dark, I’m being attacked by multiple men, crying, running away, until a door opens, bright light comes in with my dad at the door, once he comes light fills the room and I’m relieved. But I realized in my dream that he’s in a coma now. I ignore the thought, I run to him, he hugs me and says “No, no. Don’t worry. Everything is gonna be ok from now on” …. and I wake up.. and I have peed myself in my sleep at 28.

I clean up and realize I have about an hour until I need to wake up for work. I go to the guest bedroom and close my eyes. I’m asleep for 30mins, only to be woken up by phone call from mom telling me that dad passed away.

I didn’t tell anyone this story. And only realized the timing 2weeks later. I can’t explain it, but hope someone can share their opinion.
