Monthly Motivation Thread NoFap's "Awesome August" or "PMO-Free August" 2026 - continue or begin your PMO-Free journey here (see instructions).

Hello all,

It's that time of the month again! One month is ending, and another is beginning. We hope you've had a good month. But if you haven't, now is a great time to refocus and rededicate yourself to recovery. This is your opportunity to create the new porn-free you!

New to NoFap and rebooting? Here are some suggestions:

  • Learn about the website, porn addiction, excessive masturbation, sexual compulsivity, and abstaining from PMO. Read through NoFap's main website to get informed.
  • Read about the basics of rebooting here. Rebooting is the abstinence from certain sexual behaviors to recover from pornography addiction. Read about how porn addiction develops here. Some people go beyond rebooting and into the territory of retention, or sexual transmutation for periods of time, although that is not the main purpose of this subreddit (which is RECOVERY).
  • Consider reading through the free Getting Started PDF from NoFap's website.
  • Download NoFap's in-browser panic button extension that blocks NSFW subreddits too. Download here
  • Decide if rebooting is something that you really want. If you don't buy into the process 100%, you'll probably not make it through the month. If you have decided that you would like to participate, proceed to the next point.
  • Sign up for this month by replying to this submission. It is that simple. State your intention and stick to it!
  • Consider setting up a day counter badge to track your progress.
  • Ask questions and get support by posting on NoFap. Set a goal to remain accountable by making a post daily. Help others. Come here every day and participate.
  • If you need additional support, you can get an accountability partner and document your progress in a daily rebooting journal.

Would you like to participate? If so, please reply to this thread with the following information.

  • Are you not going to allow yourself to masturbate? View porn? Orgasm whatsoever? Not allowing any outlet for sexual release is called "hard mode".
  • How long do you want this challenge to last? By default it is one month, but 90 days is recommended for rebooting.
  • What are your goals?
  • Why are you doing this?

Arriving late? (past the first of the month?)

It's okay! Still state your intentions and don't postpone rebooting based on the day of the month. People can join in at any time to participate.

Mod Note: We suggest NOT USING REDDIT'S DIRECT MESSAGES due to porn trolls trying to disrupt the community. Also, please note that some posts are temporarily removed prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Hello r/NoFap community members,

Please note that we highly suggest that you avoid using the Reddit direct messaging system entirely, due to porn trolls coming here to disrupt our porn addiction recovery peer support community. Some of these people pretend to be helpful at first, then will message pornography. It's in a similar vein to how a forum on epilepsy was reportedly hacked to display seizure-inducing images.

You can disable direct messages in your Reddit settings by changing "Who can send you chat requests" to "Nobody."

Secondly, please note that sometimes posts are flagged automatically for manual review prior to appearing on r/NoFap.

Due to Reddit’s anti-spam filters and NoFap’s additional filters to control spam and pornography, sometimes genuine posts are flagged as potential spam or pornography. Further, entities within the legacy porn industry have been attempting to de-platform porn addiction recovery forums such as r/NoFap, and we must remain extra vigilant to ensure that rule-breaking posts do not appear on the platform for even one second. If your post gets flagged, please just wait for a moderator to approve it.

Thanks for reading :-)

Motivation Benefits I have observed

I (19M) haven’t gotten a streak above about 25 days, but I have been observing all the benefits that I get from NoFap, and the time at which they come around.

Deeper Voice/ Less stuttering: I always had a problem with stuttering but I find that I have about an 80% reduction in stuttering. This usually happens after 2 days.

Eyesight Improvement: I am near-sighted, and I have found that my need to wear glasses to see things far away decreases after about 3-4 days. I also found that my eyes are less sensitive to sunlight. My eyesight doesn’t heal fully, but it does heal a noticeable amount.

Less Sleep Required: When I fapped regularly, I needed 8-9 hours sleep, but since starting NoFap, I only need about 6-7 hours sleep. This started after 5 days.

Interactions with women: I’m not a very social person. Never had sex. The only time I kissed a girl was when I was on a 24 day streak, my longest streak yet. That has given me a lot of confidence in NoFap.

When I was on a 10 day streak I chatted up a girl and brought her back to my friends house. Due to some bs beyond my control nothing came of it.

Everyday life just seems better: The best way I can describe this is that NoFap brings the light back to life that disappeared after childhood ended. This effect happened after 2 days for me.

Random erections: When I was fapping regularly I almost never got a random erection or morning wood; now I get them more frequently. This started after about 4 days.

This isn’t every benefit, just the ones I thought of.
I hope this motivates you guys to keep going, especially if you are struggling with the first few days!

Question People don't believe porn is an addiction

I kinda didn't believe this either until I found this sub. I always assumed that men's engagement with porn went like this:

Man is horny. Man watches 10 minute porn video. Man masturbates while watching video. Man ejaculates. Man happy. Man looks at something else online.

And I wouldn't consider that to be an addiction. I guess your engagement with porn is different. Did you used to keep on watching until you felt numb or something?

I hope this doesn't bother you, I had this thought and question and I didn't know where else to ask it.

I suck

I’m 20M, I’m hopelessly single, been fatherless for over two years, suffering from ocd, and a very bad porn addiction I’ve had for years.

Why is it so goddamn hard?! Like I’d say 98% of the time I can abstain from fapping for no more than a day or two.

I don’t understand. I’m not making any progress why can’t I abstain longer why? WHY?? WHY CANT I DO IT?? I’d rather screw up after an entire clean week than like 2 days.

I hate this shit. I fucking hate porn so much, yet a piece of me loves it. This never ending cycle of misery and mental torment. I can’t believe how much of a loser I am, how painfully pathetic my existence is. I didn’t know my life would come to this. I’m wasting my existence and not 1 second of it is at peace.

I’ve been through so much shit in my life… but the other night I realized something. Anything I put my mind to in life I have accomplished. Except for this.

I can do anything in life… except beat this addiction. It’s the only thing I can’t do.

Also note that with my ocd I have nonstop intrusive thoughts about sex and porn all day and all night. The only relief I get is when I sleep. That’s it.

I wish I had the strength to kill myself. I wish I could, but I know I never will.

In this world I’m left to bleed and die alone. We all are. We will all die, so what’s the point of life if it’s gonna end?

I shouldn’t exist
The world doesn’t need a pathetic piece of shit like me.

Telling my Story My struggle with addiction

Upvotes

Hello everyone. I am a 55 year old male. Porn has been part of my life for decades and decades. It was during the pandemic however, that it truly became an addiction. 10-15 hour days of gooning and fapping to porn was not uncommon. Over the past four years, I would say I average at least around 2-3 hours a day.

But that’s not all. I also have sex addiction. I’ve had sex with 37 different people and hundreds of sexual encounters the last four years. Luckily, I feel like I have this addiction under control.
I also started vaping at the same time I got seriously addicted to porn so I now associate the two. If I vape, which I do a lot, I get horny and want to goon.

On top of that, anytime I’m free of the gooning and edging addiction, I turn to gaming. I’d easily game for 10 hours or more per day.

I feel like I’m at crossroads I am doing much better than I was two years ago, but I’m always teetering on relapse.

Just wanted to tell my story and say hello. Look forward to chatting with people with similar issues and hope to help each other out.

Question for my monk mode brothers

I'm on this no fap journey again after a 120 day streak 11 months ago currently now on 30 days but I've been thinking at what point do you stop counting days I feel I should forget the days as it seems like a anchor when not fully mature . I can look. Back and so oh ex amount of Months but the days I'm. Not sure. What got me to day 30 is thinking about the shame as when u relapse people say get back on the horse but they don't address the side effects of fapping while on no fap u mostly don't see the benefits until relapse then to late that type of post but clarity is hell. If someone said your life or fap u wouldn't do it again yet so many don't live because of this and then our female companions over the years have felt the affect of pmo

Question How far will you take NoFap?

I was wondering how others on this board will approach NoFap. For me, I'm planning to do it for 30 days (Maybe 60 or even 90, not sure yet) to reset my brain, then only masturbate occasionally using physical sensation. No porn or mental imagery. I hope this will be a good way to heal myself from porn addiction and PIED. What about you guys? Are you going for something similar or will you do NoFap permanently?

Question 20M - Can’t get hard anymore

Tl;dr 20yo, quit porn 3 wks ago, can’t get hard anymore and dislike sex and don’t have any horny thoughts. used to be able to have sex with gf and be hard when I did watch porn (ironic!), not sure what to do

Context
- I’ve been watching porn since I was around 10-11 years old, and I’ve been watching it pretty consistently up until a few weeks ago. I’d say I masturbated to porn 3-7 times per week for the past 10 years.
- I go to the gym fairly consistently, and I USED to get morning wood pretty regularly. I’m on the edge of normal weight and overweight according to BMI. I have a girlfriend (been together for about a year), and I’ve sometimes had trouble getting hard with her for the past year. I attribute this to a combination of porn and performance anxiety. 90% of the time I’m able to perform just fine, though, and we have sex almost every day.

The problem
I just quit porn, and it’s been about 3 weeks since the last time I watched porn, and I literally can’t get hard anymore. I don’t think about sex, and even when I try to think about sexy scenes of porn, or my girlfriend, it does nothing. I don’t really wake up with morning wood anymore, even though I sleep 7-8 hours a night, and I just feel no desire for sex anymore. I don’t even have a desire to watch porn anymore, and I don’t get horny either.

What’s ironic is that back when I DID to watch porn, I used to be able to perform pretty well with my girlfriend! For example, if I watched porn and masturbated on a Monday night, I would STILL get hard with my girlfriend on a Wednesday or Thursday night just by rubbing against her and we would then have sex. Sometimes, however, (back when I still watched porn) I had to envision porn scenes while having sex with her to stay hard (not always though, I only did this maybe 5-10% of the time).

What should I do? I don’t know if there’s something wrong with me or what happened

Journal Check-In Day 40 - sleep issues

I’m very proud of myself never got so far. My brain feels cleaner everyday, more sharper. Perverted thoughts are less frequent. More energy in the gym/during the day.

The only downside is that my sleep is a bit short. I used to be able to sleep 8 hrs with no issues, now my body wakes me up only after 6. Has anyone experience that?

Anyway, aside that I’m very happy

There is hope

I’m on three weeks right now. I haven’t felt this good in about a decade. Before, I was null of feeling, only anxiety and tension. Now I’m starting to feel more relaxed and in control of my feelings and thoughts.

It was excruciating at first. Especially two weeks in. I was having panics attacks and felt inhuman. If anyone is feeling like this, just know that means you are ridding your mind of the toxic poison.

I did this at first so that it would force me to talk to women and try to fuck them in person. (Very shallow and honestly kind of evil I know). But now I know that was my mind on this type of drug that is porn and masturbation together. It’s a drug no doubt. I used to objectify women so much it was honestly very dangerous. I’m writing this because I know this is a safe space and it will help people if I’m honest. I would see a woman in revealing clothing or just yoga pants tbh, and think about tearing her clothes off and having sex with her. It was that bad.

Sure, now I see a beautiful woman and still appreciate the beauty, but that’s what it is now, appreciation and happiness rather than lust and darkness. I still do want to go up and talk with them but with just a much lighter objective. Connecting with people. It’s not just women too now, I find myself being friendly with guys now. Not in a sexual way at all too. Porn mixed with masturbation changed my relationship with people, I saw only darkness. I’m starting to see the light.

41 Days In

53-year-old male. From what I've read, my story isn't anything new, so I'm not gonna go into it.

This morning marked 41 days in and so far, so good, though I'm home alone the next two days, so I assume these will be two of the harder days in a while just due to boredom and opportunity.

I can't say I'm experiencing any of the life-altering highs I've read so much about, but the cravings have diminished a ton and I've actually found myself having explicit dreams for the first time in a long time, which I won't complain about. I've even woken up with what I'd describe as semi-wood, which also hasn't happened in a while.

The plan is to give up the porn and the fapping pretty much altogether. 90 days seems like such a long way off, considering I'm not even halfway there yet, and while I've occasionally peeked at women (I'm off all socials, but the weightlifting app I use to track my workouts has a community/follow feature), I haven't come close to breaking down at all.

So there ya have it. That's my story. Nothing too dramatic.

Therapist asked about relapses

I was in a couples therapy session with my wife. We have been going about twice a month for about 5 months. I like the therapist and my wife and I both feel she is a good fit for us. She asked me directly if I have had any relapses in the last 6 month, since my wife mentioned I hit a 6 month milestone the other day.
I have not had a relapse since February, but the direct question made me feel like I needed to confess something. I said no, and I meant it and the therapist asked again, making sure to include "any less serious videos or behaviors" I said no, but I still felt like there must be something I should confess here to her and more importantly my wife, but I really don't feel I have relapsed. Although I did think about a couple times pop up ads came up and I hesitated to click away and never told my wife about. Now I feel guilty that I did not have something to confess in the moment.

Has anyone had a similar experience before?
My best guess is I spent so long in hiding that I feel like I should have something serious to confess.
