News / Meta Important Update for OGR2, Altair, and 21XX purchased through KeyGem

86 Upvotes

As of last week, 21XX were fully ready to ship to all participating vendors. KeyGem still has not paid the invoice, and were unable to commit to the payment plan we offered them. As such, we have made the decision to ship all unpaid 21XX keyboards & addons originally meant for KeyGem to our location in Rhode Island. Once we receive the shipment and finish QC, we will reach back out to the community with options for those who purchased from KeyGem. Like previous projects, we expect to offer them at GB price, with a discount to help offset the shipping cost of ordering from a USA based vendor.

Additionally, in order to provide some certainty to KeyGem customers, rather than giving KeyGem until the last possible moment to pay, we have decided to also have the Altair and OGR2 keyboards originally meant to go to KeyGem shipped to CannonKeys. Our initial plan was to try and give KeyGem as much time as possible in hopes that they would pay for these boards, as they told us they would when they originally delayed their payment. Prior to recent projects shipping, KeyGem was able to pay invoices when the boards were ready. However, given their recent track record, we have lost any faith this will happen. We no longer expect their payment, so we are closing out the invoices we have open on them, and moving forward.

To summarize, the following projects are now having boards meant for KeyGem shipped to CannonKeys. The plan is for KeyGem customers to be able to purchase at GB price, with a discount to help offset shipping that will vary from project to project.

  • Vida
  • Link
  • AK75
  • 21XX
  • OGR2
  • Altair

We are posting this to reddit as we do not have the emails of those who joined OGR2/Altair/21XX with KeyGem. This is our best option to try and let those who joined know about the situation.

Just finished my first custom keyboard build with Gateron Oil Kings on an aluminum plate. The assembly was a fun learning experience, and I love the smooth switches, solid feel, and crisp sound.

I finished this build today very proud of it.

Base: CNC’d Forged Carbon fiber
Plate: Lazer cut Carbon fiber plate
Switches: Hand lubed Gateron Oil king
Keycaps: Forged carbon fiber texture double shot PBT.
Foam: 3 layers PORON

The PCB is terrible and needs to be replaced at some point but for now it works.
The Stab rattle is crazy and needs to be addressed.
But damn it looks awesome.

Review SU 75 pro a year later

4 Upvotes

First couple of months were fun and flawless. Until the stabilizers kept sounding pingy inconsistent and just bad in general. So I had to upgrade the stabilizers then a month later I went and upgraded the cheap abs keycaps and since then its been flawless

On another note is that the keyboard software is kind of really bad and just finicky. I hate the silver metal top plate because my keyboard is black it looks bad. Since the top plate is metal it kind of makes everything sound a little worst. the remainder is good tho the switches sound like what they did a year ago its he and aluminum.

would I buy it again? no.. it costed me like 120 when I bought it and then I had to upgrade stabilizers and get new keycaps. It was definitely a bad idea and I strongly believe in looking for other companies and keyboards. 20000%

let me know if you have any other questions ill try answering

Review Bought EVO75 that I've been eyeing for, turned out the color is just so different

I've been wanting EVO75 First Light for almost a year, absolutely loved the silver tint on their ads.

So I finally saved enough to buy it, and was so excited when it arrives. But the color turned out was so off. It was more of a rose or pink tinted rather than silver, which felt closer to Sand Gold, its another line.

So disappointed...

Builds My Current Keyboard Collection

Post image
241 Upvotes

Around 2020-2021 during quarantine, I discovered custom keyboards for the first time and I was longing for one, but however was way too expensive (because I was young). In around 2023 I bought my first "mechanical" keyboard (The drunkdeer a75 pro, the middle right one) and I loved it, around mid 2025, I bought the lucky 65 as my first budget custom and I loved it even more. Around this year I finally decided to buy my first premium board, the mode sonnet black sesame 2026 version and my first GMK set (GMK ZX), and since then I've been on a roll buying keyboards.

From top left to right

  1. Neo60cu (Retro white, copper bottom) with GMK Monochrome r2 that was discolored + pbt Rainbow 7u pbt spacebar with HMX yoghurt S linears.

  2. Lucky 65 (silver), with stock pbt keycaps and Holy Pandas.

  3. Mode Sonnet 2026 Version (Black Sesame) with GMK ZX and Keygeek PA's with HMX yoghurt s linears on the spacebar.

  4. Drunkdeer a75 pro (Black), with random pbt 9009 keycaps and stock HE switches.

  5. Ramaworks U80-a (soy) with GMK Tiramisu and HMX Cloud v1s

  6. Smurve 80 (Sandstone) with MMD princess v4 tactiles, PBT rainbow + GMK monochrome 7u spacebar (wasn't discolored) and a cat paw artisan.

Review EVO 80 has some quality control issues re: RGB

3 Upvotes

Just wanted to report this here in case anybody else like me tries to google the issue.

I bought the Evo80 (PP + Neo) a little over a month ago and was really confused with the RGB modes as the lighting was super inconsistent, constantly flickering, and the top row wouldn't turn off when turning the backlight off. Eventually I figured it was just a defect so I returned it for a full refund and ordered another one.

I just got it today and.... it has the same issues. Constant flickering lights at random intervals BUT at least I can actually turn off the backlight and the patterns actually do seem to work somewhat. Just wish the issues with the lighting wasn't so jarring.

Otherwise I do love the feel of the keyboard, I'm coming from the Keychron Q6 MAX and in terms of typing experience this is a personal upgrade for me. I'm frankly not willing to pay for shipping again so unfortunately don't plan on going through a second return. The QC issue definitely is warding me away from ever purchasing another one!

Promotional Craftkey Mr.Soma Noxeye

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello my friend.

Soma immediately changed the plan. Instead of attacking NOXEYE head on, he ordered Renko and Morphex to keep moving in different directions, forcing hundreds of eyes to constantly shift their focus. For a brief instant, the creature's attention scattered, exposing the silent eye hidden at its center. The three warriors unleashed everything they had into a single strike that pierced through the enormous mouth and shattered the unmoving eye. Instantly, every other eye cracked apart, and NOXEYE's body collapsed into ash. The underworld began to crumble, and a black crystal known as the NOXEYE Core floated toward Renko as the reward for defeating the ancient entity. Oridus' ship roared back to life and escaped the collapsing dimension. As the stars came back into view, a mysterious signal appeared far beyond the horizon of space, silently pointing them toward their next adventure.

Thank you all so much for always supporting and standing by the team!

An abomination.

* Tofu60 Redux Acrylic O-ring mount

* Waffling60 solder pcb

* TX stabs

* Amazon aluminum plate

* Kbdfans Roller V2

* GMK Windbreaker

* Sneakbox 15u

I accidentally purchased the nontray mount pcb and had to switch to oring...so to keep the ring stretched out to the edges, I used the bottom housing of some sacrificial milky yellows. Removed the contact points and snipped the side rails for clearance.

Surprisingly, the spacebar is pretty leveled and even with a 7u stabilizer. No ticking at all. Just used more lube and grease.

Hope y'all like it.

Prior to obtaining the foundation base kit, I was convinced this was not gonna look that good without accents. Now I can’t bring myself to put them on there. So clean. Also, I’m sure somebody knows what to call this toy that came in a package from China last week. Any ideas? You push its bonnet down and its face changes.

Promotional Init40 - First impressions

Thumbnail
gallery
43 Upvotes

The new wireless Init40 keyboard was kindly provided to me by Chosfox for hardware and software testing and review purposes so I added the promotional tag. All views expressed are however my own and I received no other compensation than the keyboard. These are my early impressions of this little keyboard.

The Init40 has the same solid brick feeling as the Geonix Rev. 2.5, which most people who have picked up my keyboards comment on. The case is CNC'd out of one block of aluminium, and the keyboard is heavier than it looks. Overall it gives a very premium and solid impression. I like the look of the "grille" on the left side of the case. The "grille" is also functional since the RGB inside can e.g. be set to indicate which layer is active.

The layout of Init40 has 42 keys, and the Init40 firmware comes with 6 programmable layers as standard instead of the more common 4. I only need 4 layers though. The layers are easy to program in the VIAL web browser interface.

Aside from programmable layers, the VIAL interface also gives access to QMK's more advanced programming features like Tapdance and Combos, which comes in handy with a smaller keyboard like this.

Interestingly the case of the Init40 has a built-in angle of 5 degrees. For me this is great, since I usually have to attach hard black foam pieces on most of my 40-50% keyboards in order to get a comfortable typing angle. I do not have to do this on the Init40. The angled case also makes the front edge of the Init40 lower than the Geonix Rev. 2.5.

To me the Init40 sounds really good. Surprisingly the typing sound of the Init40 is even more solid than the Geonix Rev. 2.5. Maybe due to the angled design which creates less inner volume. I have different switches in these two keyboards, which makes the comparison harder. My Init40 has linear White Rain switches and my Geonix Rev. 2.5 has tactical Black Cloud switches. I like both switches, but in spite of usually going with heavy tacticals, I prefer the linear option in this case.

Overall I have really enjoyed using and configuring the Init40, and it will definitely be part of my rotation. Personally I think the Init40 is crazy good value at approx. 115 USD. Perfect for anyone who wants to try a smaller keyboard while not breaking the bank.

Important to note is that the keyboard comes with a really good compact semi-hard case that perfectly fits the keyboard, which is great when you want to bring the keyboard along to do work in a coffee shop or elsewhere.

There really are not many companies who make 40% keyboards that are easy to get hold of, and I am really grateful that Chosfox is repeatedly designing and launching new and innovative products that are competitively priced in this keyboard category. Thanks again to Chosfox for providing a free review sample of the Init40.
