Announcement AI Generated Content

Hi all,

As many of you have surely noticed, AI-generated content is becoming more common across the internet — and our subreddit is no exception.

Rather than banning it entirely, we’ve decided to implement a new rule to better identify AI content:

Effective immediately, all AI-generated posts MUST now be tagged with the “AI Generated” flair.

  • If your post includes content created with AI (text, images, etc.), you must use the “AI Generated” flair when posting.
  • Posts that don’t follow this rule will be removed and the user will receive a warning.
  • Repeat violations will result in a 3-month ban.

We appreciate everyone’s help in keeping the subreddit fair and transparent. Please feel free to report posts that don't follow this new rule.

Recently upgraded from my 2005 Mazda3 Sport to a beautiful 2022 Preferred Mazda3. Fell in love with Mazda from having it as a beater and landed on another Mazda3 due to it checking all my boxes (Automatic Transmission over CVT, real nice leatherette seats, not being Honda/Toyota price while still being reliable) and couldn’t be any happier. Was able to score one that was babied with only 17k miles on it. Looking forward to having this car for many years to come 😁

Advice Request Replace the rear diff + transfer case fluid?

Post image
30 Upvotes

I bought my 2025 turbo hatch brand new a couple months ago and I’ve noticed a very specific and honestly loud whine from the rear of the car, which from what I read could mean a rear differential issue. I had it looked at by the Mazda dealership and they said it was consistent with how their other awd Mazda 3s sound, so I left it at that. It’s been hot recently, and the sound has only gotten louder, and now I’m hearing a completely different whine from the middle of the vehicle. I feel I’m going crazy but I’m considering just replacing the rear differential and transfer case fluid for peace of mind because it’s easy. But in the case that there is a rear differential issue, should I just wait for it to go out? Could replacing the fluid prolong the issue past my warranty? Would appreciate any advice on this if anyone’s experienced the same with their awd

Discussion e-Skyactiv X owners, need some real talk on the engine before I commit

About to order a new Mazda3 Takumi with the e-Skyactiv X, automatic, and before I sign anything I wanted to get a proper read on the engine itself since it seems like a genuinely different beast compared to the regular Skyactiv-G.

Daily driving will be mostly city, stop and go traffic, a decent amount of lights and jams since I live in a fairly busy European city. On top of that I'll be doing a longer highway trip roughly once every two weeks, a few hours each way. So it's really a mix of constant short trips at low revs most days, with periodic longer stretches at speed.

A few things I've picked up from other owners that I'd like people's honest take on, not trying to talk myself out of it, just want the full picture:

Spark plugs apparently don't last as long as you'd expect on this engine, some people report having them changed way earlier than the official interval and them being pretty pricey when they do go.

Carbon buildup and injector clogging seems to come up a lot for GDI engines in general and I've heard the X isn't immune, with a couple of people mentioning it can go unnoticed since it won't always throw a check engine light.

The supercharger itself apparently can develop a whining or grinding noise on some cars, sounds like Mazda has acknowledged this on certain units.

Given all that, is the X actually a sensible engine for mostly city and traffic use, or is that exactly the kind of driving that accelerates these issues since it never gets to breathe on the highway. And for the fuel side, is running standard 95 fine day to day, or is it worth deliberately running higher octane premium fuel with the stronger cleaning additive every so often just to keep things clean, since in my country the beefed up cleaning additive only comes in the 98 variant.

Also curious if there's a driving style that actually helps this engine stay healthy, like should I be deliberately revving it higher sometimes even in the city, or does the compression ignition side of things handle that differently than a normal petrol engine would.

Would really value hearing from anyone who's put real km on one of these, especially in a similar city plus occasional highway pattern, good or bad experiences both welcome.

I want to learn how to drive stick without breaking the budget, so I’m looking for something that’s fun to drive and isn’t ugly as sin. So I found a 2014 mazda 3 with 100k miles for $3,000.

What do you guys think?

It was at a dealership for straighten and repaint after a hit.
Also, the rear light on this side has a gap from the one on the trunk, on the right side it s ok. (You can’t see it in this photo)
Car was bought new this year in February.

Modification Doing the inner trim wrap

Trying to add a pop of color to the all black interior... never did a wrap a day in my life but I think it'll be just fine in the end. Started with the rear doors for "safety" in case I messed it all up but it looks good. Its kind of a pain to do the corners of the trim pieces and that little upper cover you have to take the entire door card off to get out smh

Advice Request Curiosity but also looking for suggestions

Upvotes

I've had my 2020 Mazda3 for 6 years now. I'm about to make my last payment and during a parking job gone wrong (I made a bad mistake with the rear brakes) I've had the EPB rebuilt. I'm afraid they are getting close to the end and I'm trying to prepare by getting replacements . I'm going to take it to a local shop soon to get their opinion too but the mobile mechanic i worked with to get the vehicle at least functioning let me know that the motors were going. I'm trying to find the parts without going straight to mazda because each part is around 500 bucks. If I have to bite the bullet I have to but I'm really trying to not spend a a stupid amount that I can't really afford to get this done. What are your guy's experience or suggestions on procuring parts? I'm just honestly trying to avoid the heavy markup.

Advice Request Is it possible to relocate the front license plate lower on a 2022 Mazda 3 Sedan without drilling?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I have a 2022 Mazda 3 Sedan, and I'd like to relocate the front license plate from its factory position to the lower grille area, similar to the car in the second picture.

The Mazda in the reference photo appears to be a newer model/year with some minor front-end design differences, so I'm not sure whether the same type of relocation is possible on my 2022 Sedan.

From what I can tell, the owner of the car in the reference photo did not drill into the bumper, which is exactly what I'm looking for. I'd like to keep my bumper completely unmodified and have the option to return the car to stock.

Has anyone done this on a 2022 Mazda 3 Sedan?
If so:

  • Is there a no-drill mounting solution that allows the plate to sit centrally in the lower grille?
  • Does the lower grille on the 2022 Sedan have suitable mounting points for this?
  • Are there any compatibility issues between the earlier and newer bumper designs?
  • If a specific bracket/kit is needed, which one would you recommend?

I've attached a picture of my car and the reference car for comparison.

Thanks in advance!

Advice Request What dash cam should I get?

Upvotes

Hello, recently acquired a 2026 Mazda 3 Hatchback Carbon edition. I would like to purchase a dash cam that can record both the front and back of my car. It would be nice if it could record the sides as well but I don’t think any dash cams do that. I would like it to be very clear quality so license plates are readable. If possible, with audio recording as well. Does anybody know where to get one of these? I have never owned a car before and just got my license, so I am very clueless and Google is not giving straightforward answers. I’m in the US

Advice Request Passed pre-purchase inspection on a 2013 Mazda 3 2.0 SkyActiv (130k km) - I still have some fears

Upvotes

The car is from this earlier post: https://www.reddit.com/r/mazda3/comments/1w63jxv/should_i_walk_away_from_this_mazda_3_and_learn_my/

Just finished a comprehensive pre-purchase inspection (PPI) at an official Mazda dealership for a imported 2013 Mazda 3 (2.0 SkyActiv petrol, 130k km). Given all the usual anxieties around imported cars and dealer deposits, I wanted to share the results and get a quick sanity check from the community.

(Legend: M = Satisfactory, GY = Weak, R-H = Bad/Faulty):

Inspection Breakdown:

  • I. Brake System
  • Pedal free play: Satisfactory (M)

II. Suspension, Underbody

  • Front Right Wheel: Satisfactory (M)
  • Front Left Wheel: Satisfactory (M)
  • Rear Right Wheel: Satisfactory (M)
  • Rear Left Wheel: Satisfactory (M)
  • Ball joints: Satisfactory (M)
  • Control arms: Satisfactory (M)
  • Sway bar links: Satisfactory (M)
  • Underbody, floor pan condition: Satisfactory (M)

III. Electrical Equipment, Lighting

  • High beam headlights: Satisfactory (M)
  • Low beam headlights: Satisfactory (M)
  • Position lights / Parking lights: Satisfactory (M)
  • Brake lights: Satisfactory (M)
  • Hazard lights: Satisfactory (M)
  • Turn signals: Satisfactory (M)
  • Battery: Satisfactory (M)
  • Starter motor: Satisfactory (M)
  • Reverse light: Satisfactory (M)
  • Gauges / Instrument cluster operation: Satisfactory (M)
  • Alternator / Generator charging: Satisfactory (M)

IV. Engine, Clutch

  • Oil pressure: Satisfactory (M)
  • Engine oil leak: Satisfactory (M)
  • Exhaust system: Satisfactory (M)
  • Cooling system: Satisfactory (M)
  • Clutch: Satisfactory (M)

V. Steering

  • Steering free play: Satisfactory (M)
  • Steering linkage / shaft: Satisfactory (M)
  • Steering rack condition: Satisfactory (M)
  • Tie rod: Satisfactory (M)
  • Tie rod ends / Ball joints: Satisfactory (M)

VI. Remarks

  • (No negative remarks or fault codes listed)

Paint gauge readings (microns): The right side (top) fender and doors show factory paint (70-100), but the rear quarter panel has been repainted with minor body filler (359–541μm). The entire left side (bottom) has cosmetic resprays (160-240), but no heavy filler. Frame and pillars are completely untouched.

Overall, the official Mazda tech gave it a solid green light with no unexpected or immediate repair costs required.

What do you think? Walk away or a good buy?

Advice Request 100th Anniversary car mats

Upvotes

I recently bought a 100th Anniversary Edition that I fell head over heels for, but it was missing car mats.

I'm keen to keep the interior clean and I want to keep the wet and dirt off the burgundy carpets now when we're going into autumn. It seems impossible to find anything that matches even with custom options, or get a set through Mazda officially. I find the black mats you get online quite boring but it's looking more likely to be the only option.

Any suggestions on nice mats that aren't just black with a colour trim that would match the Mazda burgundy floor? I feel like I've scanned every shop on the internet at this point, most of them offer bright red trim/stitching, one had a burgundy trim at best. Maybe I've missed something?

Based in the UK for reference.

My car has just reached 40,000 miles. Should I replace the spark plugs now, or is it safe to wait until the annual service in March? I don’t expect to drive more than another 5,000 miles before then.
