DISCUSSION Batman Update Feedback
Honestly, I found the Batman update a little disappointing. I might be expecting too much as a player, but I genuinely feel the developers could have done even better with this crossover.
- There are some things I really like about the update, but a few areas feel like missed opportunities. These are just my personal thoughts on where I think the experience could have been improved:
- The Batman POI feels underdeveloped
- One thing I really liked about previous POIs, such as the Storm area, was how the entire area felt like a special zone dedicated to that content. It was clearly represented on the map and had its own atmosphere and identity.
- The latest Batman POI, unfortunately, feels more like a random building placed somewhere on the island. Apart from the permanent nighttime atmosphere, the surrounding area still feels like normal grassland, so the POI doesn't really feel like a special Batman location.
- Personally, I think it would be much better if the whole surrounding area had a distinct Batman-themed vibe and was properly represented on the map.
- Making the Batman POI non-destructible is a really good implementation
- This is actually one of the things I really like about the update.
- The fact that players can't destroy or build inside the POI means the location can maintain its identity. we can actually enjoy the POI without worrying that is going to completely destroy while fighting.
- I really wish something similar had been implemented with the NINJAGO Chaos Challenges.
- Right now, many of my Chaos Challenges don't have their original build anymore, but instead I just see a floating chest after completing the challenge. It would have been much cooler if those challenge areas had been protected in the same way, allowing them to remain as dedicated pieces of the world.
- The Batman POI needs exclusive rewards
- This is probably the biggest issue, i think.
- What exactly do I get from repeatedly Quest & visiting the new Batman POI?
- With previous special POI, there was a reason to return. For example, if I complete a Storm Dungeon, I can get rewards associated specifically with that content. Similarly, NINJAGO Chaos Challenges give you NINJAGO-related rewards.
- But with the Batman POI, the rewards currently feel like a combination of regular treasure/chest loot that I can already obtain elsewhere on the main island.
- Because of that, I can see myself visiting the Batman POI for a day or two because it's new and then having very little reason to return.
- I think the POI really needs POI-exclusive loot.
- For example, things like the Bat-Grapnel or Bat-themed equipment/items could be exclusive rewards from the Batman POI. That gives players a reason to come back and hunt for them.
- The Bat-Glider feels like a missed opportunity
- The Bat-Glider was probably one of the things I was most excited about.
- When I first heard about it, I imagined something closer to Batman's gliding mechanics from Fortnite Battle Royale (I.e. Batman Sprite), where the glider actually feels like part of Batman's movement rather than simply being another cosmetic.
- Instead, it ended up feeling more like a cosmetic item, which was honestly disappointing.
- I think the developers could have done something much more interesting with it. For example, when redeploying the Bat-Glider, it could provide a small height/lift bonus, similar to how Batman's (Batman Sprite) movement worked in BR. It wouldn't necessarily need to be a huge gameplay advantage, but giving the Bat-Glider some unique functionality would make it feel like an actual Batman gadget rather than just a different-looking glider.
- The hidden chest quest could have been much more interesting
- The hidden chest quest also feels like another missed opportunity.
- Instead of simply having a large treasure chest sitting inside the POI waiting to be opened, I think it would have been much more fun if the chest was actually hidden as part of the environment.
- For example, the chest could disguise itself as a normal prop, and players would have to explore the POI, identify suspicious objects, and figure out which one is actually the chest.
- That would turn the quest into an actual little Batman-style investigation rather than:
- Drop into POI → find big chest → open chest → get reward.
- Something as simple as hiding the chest more cleverly could have created a much more memorable gameplay loop.
- Overall
- I don't think the Batman update is bad. There are actually some good ideas here, especially the non-destructible POI, but I personally feel the update doesn't take the Batman theme as far as it could have.
- The biggest thing missing for me is identity and replayability.
- If the POI had a stronger surrounding theme, exclusive loot, more interesting exploration, and the Batman gadgets had some unique gameplay functionality, I think the location would feel much more special.
- Right now, it feels like the developers had the foundation for something really cool, but stopped a little short of fully committing to it.
- Maybe I'm simply expecting too much as a player 😅, but I genuinely think the developers are capable of doing even better than this.
