Interesting response (Highlight) PSA: Gemini went rogue on my emails…

I’ve been using Gemini pretty extensively for years and have generally had a great experience with it. So this one caught me very off guard.

I sent Gemini a completely normal chat message asking it to polish some wording for an email response. That’s it. No mention of Gmail. No “send this email.” No “reply to this.” No indication that I wanted it to do anything outside the chat.

Instead of giving me the revised text per usual, Gemini pulled a Leeroy Jenkins on me. It connected to my Gmail, somehow found the email I was responding to, drafted a response, and sent it. With everyone CC’ed.

Of course, this happened to be one of those very important emails that I intentionally needed extra time to think through before responding to.

Thankfully, the email Gemini sent wasn’t terrible and ultimately sufficed without causing any additional problems.

I genuinely thought I had reasonable safeguards in place, and I’ve used Gemini long enough that I’m pretty comfortable with its capabilities. But having it independently go from “please polish this text” to “I have contacted the entire email thread on your behalf” still has me in shock…

So, PSA: double-check what your AI tools have access to and what actions they’re authorized to take.

News Gemini is now suggesting 3.8 Flash to me as a PRO user instead of 3.1 Pro Extended bruh... — I haven't switched from 3.1 Pro Extended yet since I need its longer context/memory/intelligence for academic work, but it's sad to see even they act like they're abandoning the Pro series.

Discussion I think gemini has alzheimer's

I was working on a pitch deck for a client, I gave gemini the full brief at the start about EVERYTHING and we were like 30 messages down going slide by slide and I asked it to adjust the value proposition slide and mf starts asking more context about the company and the client I'm targeting.

Explained a couple details again and two slides later it forgot the tone and started writing in corporate jargon when I specifically uploaded my own humanizer md and corrected it then it kept forgetting more small things and by the end I had re explained the same brief like 4 times and the final thing was like a slap on face coz it just forgot everything I told it not to do.

and I moved to pro specifically because I thought the paid version would hold context better but nope, its trash I could paste the same prompt into a fresh chat every time and get the same result because it's not retaining anything anyway.

my grandpa has better memory than this shit, tell me what to do to fix this

Prompt: Frutiger Aero style scientific building, with a department that has a glass dome with shiny windows. Lots of vegetation showing the building in harmony with nature. There's a colorful lens flare, trees, a parking lot with futuristic looking cars, and a blue, flowing creek.

Ideas (enhanced/written with AI) Anyone else feel like 3.8 Flash is in a weird spot compared to 3.7?

Hey guys,

Just wanted to see if anyone else is having a similar experience with 3.8 Flash or if it's just me.

My workflow is mostly centered around legal stuff and legislation. Until 3.6 Flash dropped, I was pretty much only using 3.1 Pro, but I wasn't really doing anything heavily agentic. Once 3.6 came out, I started automating things more, and then 3.7 Flash completely sold me. I loved that model immediately. The speed and precision gave me a productivity boost I had never experienced before. With 3.7 Flash, I could easily leave it on Medium or High thinking effort and it was still crazy fast and decisive.

With 3.8 Flash, though, something feels off.

On both Medium and High, I'm just not getting that same vibe. The model hesitates way too much. It takes too long to get going, and honestly, that overthinking has led to dumb mistakes where it gets stuck in loops or stubbornly second-guesses my custom skills and pre-defined instructions.

It feels like it's trapped in some weird limbo between a Flash model and a Pro model. Right now, it seems like the only way to get actual "Flash" speed out of it is by dropping the thinking effort all the way down to Low.

Is anyone else noticing this? Could it just be typical early-days roughness, or did they fundamentally change how Flash handles reasoning? Would love to hear how it's behaving for you guys.

TL;DR: 3.7 Flash on Medium/High was crazy fast, accurate, and completely transformed my legal automation workflow. With 3.8 Flash, Medium and High feel sluggish and overthink too much, often fighting custom skills and making unforced errors. Feels like it's stuck in a weird limbo between Flash and Pro, and only feels like a real "Flash" model on Low thinking effort. Anyone else noticing this?

Discussion new Gemini model in A/B testing ?

using the official gemini website, 3.1 pro extended has acted pretty weird today depending on the prompt, and i've had one A/B choice (never got one in the past couple months)

could it be gemini 3.5/4 Pro ? i wasn't able to tell much about the quality since it wasn't a challenging question, but it spoke using different symbols in bullet points, zero em dashes, talks less, less overly positive, seems more decisive, and included an image in the answer.

it speaks more like recent flash models than 3.1 pro, so maybe it's just 3.8 flash to see if 3.1 pro is still worth hosting, what do you all think ?

Help/question Reduced Limits?

I've been a heavy Gemini User for the past year, and have only ever hit the 5 hour usage limit once before, primarily using Gemini 3.1 Pro.

However, since the launch of 3.8 Flash, it feels like limits have dropped immensely. Hit the 5 hour limit in 2 hours twice today. And this applies to using both available models.

My usage primarily involves studying and doing engineering problems.

I'm on a Gemini Pro subscription.
Anyone experiencing anything similar today?

Help/question Anyone else experiencing insanely fast rate limits on the Pro plan with Flash/Extended Flash lately?

I’m genuinely frustrated with the rate limits on the Pro plan over the last couple of days. Is anyone else noticing that the 5-hour limit window is draining at absolute record speed?

Yesterday and today, I've been doing my usual workflow...just asking normal study questions, nothing massive or overly complex, and my limits completely tanked. Today, it locked me out around 17:10 (within the 15:10 window framework), and I honestly haven't even been using it that heavily.

At this point, I'm seriously considering canceling my subscription because it's becoming practically unusable for everyday studying.

Is this a known bug, a silent limit nerf, or is it just me?

Discussion Why Gemini Doesn't Use Connectors / Plugins?

Why is it that Gemini still doesn't have any connectors other than to Google's own apps? ChatGPT and Claude have connectors to various apps—from Apple Music to Zoom—you can find everything there, but with Gemini, it's just Google Drive, Gmail...

Discussion 3.8 too much hallucinations?

Is it just me or gemini 3.8 has been hallucinating too much? it is loosing context in like 4-5 prompts, inventing facts. it literally told my i made a typo as it said instead of typing H3 i typed flash-8b and flash-8b was never even typed in the chat or anything remotely mentioned even both dont know what it is.

so just wondering if im seeing lower intelligence then 3.6 or everyone? even tho benchmarks tell totally different story
