You can actually see the frames where it freezes for a few milliseconds, this even affects my cursor outside the game if it's running in the background.

I started playing yesterday and it was completely fine on day 1 and now this is happening :(

A few years back around 2019/2020 I bought a very expensive Asus rog gaming laptop. It was fine for a few months until the keyboard just randomly gave out. Everything lit up but pressing anything aside from the power button would result in no input being detected. I babied that thing too so im not sure what really caused it. I was broke so I had no money to get it repaired, and i believe the closest repair place was about an hour away. Like an idiot I let it sit there for years after it had broke, instead of selling it.

Now more recently last year, I bought an expensive hp omen laptop. It worked perfectly and again I babied it. Well of course a few months after I had purchased it (when the warranty and best buy return period ended), it crashes whenever a game runs for longer than a minute. So using it like a normal computer its fine but when gaming it'll crash 1 minute after a game is opened. The entire thing freezes so each time I have to hold the power button down for a while until it turns off, then wait for the entire thing to restart. Im not sure what is causing this, others have told me its a known issue with some hp omen laptops; but so far theres no fix.

I still had the receipt but best buy pretty much told me it wasn't their problem. I haven't contacted hp yet but others have told me its a nightmare. So i was thinking of selling it. Although after all this I am not sure what gaming laptop brand id even buy, since I dont want to repeat this a 3rd time after paying $1,000 on a laptop.

Sharing my experience with DPC watchdog problems and some methods that may help anyone with similar issues.

So I've been having DPC watchdog violation BSODs on my Zephyrus G16 GU605MZ (2024) for a while now. Certain games/applications would suddenly have extreme slowdowns, followed by a complete system lockup/freezing for 2-3 minutes before giving me a BSOD with the DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION code. After looking into this issue this past week, it seems like these issues are not isolated to any specific brand, make or model, and that many people are having these exact problems.

More information on these crashes/freezes:

- It only happens in certain specific games or applications, and it may vary for different people if their device also suffers from these problems. For me it likes to freeze on Forza Horizon 6 (one race in particular seems to he heavily affected), Cyberpunk 2077 (especially when modded) and when editing photos in Adobe Lightroom. Certain other games, including graphically intensive ones, did not seem to have any problems.

- When the issue occurs, you will typically first hear extreme audio stuttering and a massive system slowdown. followed by a complete freezing of the system. Audio might continue playing in the background until the actual blue screen shows up 2-3 minutes after the initial freeze.

- Many different laptops are affected, this isn't an issue with any specific manufacturer, lineup or model.

- This appears to be a VBIOS issue with Nvidia GPUs. Specifically regarding voltage regulation and GPU die manufacturing tolerances.

- nvlddmkm.sys freezes and initiates a driver deadlock, resulting in the completely unresponsive system described.

What I Tried & Potential Fixes:

- Undervolting: try this first. This fixed the problem for me. Altering the VRAM clocks may or may not affect this too, I haven't properly tested yet.

- Going to Windows\System32 and configuring user permissions nvlddmkm.sys to full control: Some people had their problems fixed when they did this, but I did this first before undervolting; while I went a bit longer than usual without crashing, it still eventually gave me the BSOD.

- Installing Linux: again, an inconsistent 'fix'. Some people had their issues resolved by installing Linux, while others still experienced errors.

- DDU wiping & reinstalling fresh drivers: this did not work for me.

- If RMA is an option and you're willing, do give that a try. Motherboard swaps are also an option (only do this if the vendor offers it for free under warranty).

Conclusion:

(My own deductions, if you have more info I'm glad to be corrected)
Laptops are being shipped with VBIOSes that push the GPU voltages too hard. If you get unlucky with the silicon lottery and get a die with lower voltage tolerances, you suffer from these DPC watchdog violations. Undervolting would be the most effective solution.

Hey everyone, I'm getting ready to sell my desktop setup to save space in a smaller flat, but I'm struggling to figure out what laptop hardware actually matches my current rig.

My desktop runs a Ryzen 5 5600X, RTX 3080 10GB, and scores 4,147 in 3DMark Steel Nomad. I posted recently looking for recommendations around a £1,500 budget, but I don't think it was realistic.

Some people have mentioned an RTX 5070 Ti laptop might be roughly equivalent, while other stuff has said even a 4080 wouldn't be much different

For those who have swapped from a desktop to a laptop recently: * What benchmarks or metrics did you rely on to find a true 1:1 equivalent? * How well do mobile GPUs (like the 5070 or 5070 Ti) actually stack up against a desktop RTX 3080 in real world 1440p gaming? * Is a ~4,100 Steel Nomad score realistic for a laptop that does not sound like a literal jet engine running full blast?

I am in the market for a mid to high end gaming laptop. I want at least a 4090 or a 5080 graphics card as well as ideally an OLED or 4k display. What I've narrowed it down to now is the Razer Blade 16 with the 4090 and the mini-led 4k at 120hz dual mode display and the Omen Max 16 with the 5080 and 1600p 240hz OLED. Both are around the same price used with warranty on ebay. I like to play single player games with good graphics like Cyberpunk and Ghost of Tsushima, with the exception of The Finals. I like the 4k display of the Razer, but being locked to 120hz isn't ideal, and I've heard that the difference between 4k and 1600p isn't noticeable in a laptop. Also, the OLED of the Omen obviously beats out color of the mini-led, so I am having a hard time choosing which in terms of display. Then comes the issue of the graphics card. The 4090 is objectively more powerful, but the 5080 has the blackwell architecture, and I don't mind having some ai frames. The Razer has 64gb RAM while the Omen has 32gb, but both numbers are so large it doesn't make a large difference in my eyes. I have heard mixed things from both reddit and the various ai I have used for research regarding the quality and reliability of each laptop. These 2 are the best options I have found do far that fit my preferences, both are priced on ebay around 2100. Tell me what you guys think, am I looking at the wrong thing in the wrong place? Or which one would fit better? Also please don't be prejudiced towards the laptops just because of the logo. You guys are honesty my last resort, because I don't really know what to choose at this point. Thank you everybody!

Need some quick buying advice on the TUF A14 because local stock and pricing are driving me crazy.
I want a compact 14" laptop, but right as I was about to pull the trigger, the 2025 model (Ryzen AI 7 + RTX 5060, 16GB) that was sitting at 73k completely sold out.
Now I’m basically looking at:
2026 Strix Halo (32GB RAM) for 77k
2024 Ryzen 9 HX + RTX 4050 (16GB RAM) for 63k
(Still hunting for the 2024 RTX 4060 version, but zero luck finding one in stock anywhere)
The pricing is messing with my head. The Strix Halo is only 4k more than what the 5060 was, and the 32GB RAM is a massive plus since the RAM on the A14 is soldered with zero upgrade slots. But at the same time, paying 77k for an APU when a dedicated 5060 was cheaper feels kinda insane.
Then there’s the 2024 4050 model. It has the Ryzen 9 HX and saves me 14k, which is real money. But is 6GB VRAM on a 1600p screen dead on arrival for newer games, or is it fine if I just drop settings/resolution down to 1200p?
Also, for anyone actually daily driving an A14: is it genuinely good, or are there hidden red flags? How are the fan noise, keyboard deck temps under load, and general build/hinge quality?
Would you bite the bullet on the 77k Strix Halo for the 32GB, take the discount on the 4050, or just hold off and keep praying for a 5060 restock / 4060 find?

So this has happened with couple games mostly gears and now Wardogs. Updated to 610.88 as well. An example is I'm playing Wardogs. Randomly screen goes black and flickers then comes back. Shows 2fps and shoots back up to 170. Have a Legion with 5060 Ultra Core 9, 32gb Ram and 1tb SSD. Tried rolling back but gears can't be played tried some other things but can't figure out what to do to just fix this. Not overheating either. Wondering if anyone knows this problem or dealt with it. And need help thank you!!

Had my laptop for around 3 years and checked on the stock thermal paste and looks like it needs replacing. I've decided to replace it with PTM7950.

What's the safe and proper way to do this (like a step by step process)? What thermal pad size I should buy (thinking of the 40x40mm)?

I looked at a few YT videos and I read comments saying that they should unplug cables to prevent any short circuit, use 99% isopropyl alcohol to clean off the old thermal paste, etc. This is my first time doing this so any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Just need a proper chair and I'm all set (for now I'm using a regular dining room chair isn't comfortable). I'll eventually get a better table, but this fold up one is acceptable for now.

I'm having a critical and frustrating issue with my HP Victus laptop. While under gaming load, the laptop either suddenly switches from the dedicated GPU (GTX 1650) to the integrated Intel GPU (crashing the game), OR the entire laptop just restarts randomly on its own.

When the GPU disconnects and I check Device Manager, the GTX 1650 often has a yellow warning triangle (Code 43) or acts like it's physically disconnected. If I right-click it, select "Disable device", and then "Enable device", Windows recognizes it again and it works normally until the next crash.

* **Third-Party Installers:** For full troubleshooting transparency, I often play repacks/unofficial versions of games, and I usually install the bundled redistributables (DirectX, Visual C++, etc.) that come inside those installation folders. I'm starting to wonder if a bundled file corrupted my Windows system files or caused a deep driver conflict.

* **Drivers:** I have the latest NVIDIA drivers installed, but I haven't used DDU yet.

* **Power/Thermals:** The laptop is plugged in and set to "High Performance". It gets warm, but I'm not sure if this is a thermal shutdown, a motherboard power delivery failing under the combined CPU+GPU load, or a nasty software/malware conflict from the game installers.

Has anyone experienced this "disappearing GPU" alongside random restarts? Could corrupted redistributables from third-party installers cause this hardware-level disconnect, or is my motherboard/PSU failing?
