[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI | Extended Look + Previews Discussion

The GTA 6 Extended Look + Previews drop today.

The Extended Look will stream globally on Netflix at 3PM ET/12PM PT/8PM UK, before being dropped on YouTube later the same day. Content creators/streamers are being allowed to co-stream the extended look as it premieres on Netflix, and so we can use this thread to discuss it right as it goes live. This thread will also be updated with the YT link to the look whenever it drops online.

In addition to the extended look, various media outlets, creators and influencers have gotten a chance (potentially hands-on) to experience GTA 6 at Rockstar's offices, and the embargo for these previews are ALSO supposed to lift at the same time that the Netflix extended look premieres - I'll be trying to update this post with some such previews too.

Jormungandr in God of War is so damn cool.

I know I’m almost a decade late to the party, but I got Dad of Son on PS Plus a while back and decided to start playing it recently. Aside from it easily being as good as everyone says it is, I can’t get over how gigantic and freaking awesome Jormungandr looks. I went into the game blind and was hoping he’d make an appearance, but wasn’t expecting him to be so prominent. The devs really put some love into this title!

Anyway, I’m about to sail underneath his head. Getting some real thalassophobia thinking about - wish me luck, ha!

EDIT: Wasn’t expecting this little post to blow up so much! Great to see so many people sharing their memories of the game! For those that are confused about the quality of the graphics, I think it’s my photo thats the problem rather than the game itself - it looks excellent in person! Probably should have taken a screenshot in retrospect 😅 Thanks for all the good vibes guys!

Holy shit i can not stop playing this game it's genuinely nuts. Never in my life did i think that this would be a genre that would appeal to me but the Star Wars IP sucked me in and i have to been able to get back out for days. Is this how fun the X-Com games are cause i gotta give those a try if so

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s “Physical” PS5 Release Requires a Digital Download

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s PS5 physical edition will ship on a single disc, but a digital download will be required to play the full game. That’s a noticeable change from the previous games: Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth both shipped on two discs, with the games fitting entirely across the physical media.

PlayStation Is Not The Same, And Hasn't Been For A Long Time

3.0k Upvotes

PlayStation started to change for the worst around 2018/2019. Shawn Layden, a CEO that actually cared about games, left the company. Shuhei Yoshida, who was there from PlayStation's original conception, was demoted to a much less significant role because he wasn't fully compliant with Sony's new direction, live service.

Jim Ryan becomes CEO of SIE, and it's immediately clear from this point forward where Sony's priorities lie. Shuts down Japan Studio because Sony wants to focus on AAA. Restructures some staff to form Team Asobi as a last bastion (who won GOTY for Astro Bot, a AA game how funny). Then they announce that they have ***12*** live service games in development, and that they are acquiring Bungie for $3.6B to help steer this ship.

I won't reiterate Sony ending physical game discs, there's already been enough text written about that and probably what I've written above. PlayStation isn't even a shell of it's former self, it's morphed into something else completely. What do you guys think? Do you think PlayStation is still a brand worth being hopeful about? And for the PlayStation fans out there, do you support Sony's direction and if you do, why?

Today is Silksong first "birthday" - it was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated indie games in history. Your thoughts? Played or skipped? Enjoyed or not?

I finished Act 3 just few days ago and have to say that overall it was probably the best metroidvania which I ever played. Huge and brilliantly designed map, diversified biomes, challenging but also satisfying boss fights, fantastic and perfectly suited soundtrack. Hype surrounding this production was incredible, but IMO it lived up to expectations and landed on my TOP15 games of all time list.

Blood of the Dawnwalker fixes a gripe I've had with RPG dialogue for ages now

3.8k Upvotes

So, you're talking to someone, and you've got let's say, 3 dialogue options. Option A advances the dialogue, while B and C offer some kind of exposition.

Naturally, you want to experience more plot and lore, so you explore B and C before proceeding, but it completely ruins the flow of the dialogue.

After exploring options B and C you basically have the other character go on an extended exposition, and when you finally move forward with option A, it continues the conversation as if B and C never happened, completely ruining any semblance of natural conversation.

This issue gets worse the more dialogue options there are and the longer the exposition is, because the gap between their sentence/question and your reply gets longer. Sometimes it's also noticeably worse with certain dialogue options and you'll find yourself thinking "this conversation would have made a lot more sense if I had picked those options in the opposite order..."

So far, I'm only a few hours into Blood of the Dawnwalker, but every time there's been dialogue options, the dialogue is written in such a way the NPC's replies to options B, C or whatever, end in such a way that they naturally flow into the option to continue the conversation, making the dialogue on the whole feel much more natural regardless how many exposition options you choose or what order you choose them in.

Honestly this is probably a pretty minor gripe, but I've been really enjoying seeing it actually addressed in a game.

What games are my fellow older gamers enjoying?

I turned 50 earlier this year and still in love with gaming. I play on Xbox, PC and still have a Switch 1.

Currently playing Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. I usually play Diablo 4 and POE 2 whenever a new season drops. Will go back to Forza 6 at some point, and like most gamers I am looking forward to GTA6.
