What’s a movie you think deserves way more attention?

I’m really interested in people’s opinions on Sucker Punch. I’ll be honest, I remember watching it in ~2014 as a teenage girl and absolutely loving it. I thought it was badass and was totally saying F you to any lame authority and especially guys (super antsy, I know LOL).

Recently I rewatched it as an adult, I certainly agree with many users opinions that it almost goes against its intended feminist agenda, but I also don’t understand the hate it gets. Sure the girls aren’t dressed like saints, but I love the costumes and think they serve a purpose of “the male” idea of women. Really no part of this movie showed the girls **wanted** to be objectified by their abusers. If anything they use their sexuality to get what they want and need.

I was confused upon rewatching recently and reading Reddit comments/reviews on this one. It’s truly not the best movie, or the best story line - I get it. But as a girl I love it and I really don’t know another \[almost\] all female casted movie that is quite as good about dealing with traumatic experiences and sexual abuse and revenge and just as fun of a watch in general. These experiences lead to delusions so I don’t think it’s an absolute stretch. Look I understand this movie and storyline is not that deep, but it covers topics that people are uncomfortable with in a fantastical way. All in all, I t’s an entertaining watch, with **great** music and quite good acting!

Just curious people’s thoughts on this movie! And if you absolutely hate it, tell me why (aside from just hating Snyder). Or if you have any other badass girl movies let me know!

Something that’s like the last of us season 1, I am legend, world war Z, or even alien post apocalyptic movies

The studio, LAIKA, hasn't put out anything since Missing Link back in '19. A dark stop-motion fantasy seems like an easy sell, but the real-world buzz feels practically non-existent right now. Is it just me? Are people you know actually talking about this one, or does it feel like another movie that is going to be ignored until it's streaming?

I finally caught Spider-Man: Brand New Day and I get why people have been talking about it. What surprised me most was how much the movie focuses on Peter himself instead of just throwing one big action scene after another.There are some great moments and a few choices I’m still thinking about. Not perfect but definitely one of those movies that gives people a lot to talk about after the credits.Curious where everyone lands on it. Overhyped or actually worth the buzz?

First of all, I am so sorry if such a topic was brought up in here before recently since I was doing an observation on how some trends in movies look like they disappeared.

For instance, one trend I noticed that doesn’t get used anymore is the concept of wacky duos since I remember a time when John C Reilly and Will Ferrell had done funny movies together as I get that the Sherlock Holmes movie killed such a partnership due to bad reception.

But man, it’s just that I really miss when comedic duos could work as a concept in movies since again I had so much fun watching the Reilly and Ferell movies they starred in that I still can’t believe those days are long gone.

That rare movie where you get so locked in that the outside world just disappears for 2 hours. No checking your phone no pausing no distractions. What movie did that for you?

Finally watched ford vs Ferrari and it was sooooo good! Really good acting from everyone all around tbh, Bale is such a great actor! I’m so glad I watched it and will be finishing it up today!

Yesterday, they were ordinary individuals among you—people with dreams, talents, friendships, and struggles. Today, I feel blessed to have gathered this wonderful group of artists to lead them into the magical world of cinema through our upcoming film, LOVE & U.

Before talking about the movie, let me share a meaningful thought. Fr. Abel, the legendary founder of Kalabhavan, wrote a poignant song about a man searching for the Divine. The man wanders far and wide, visiting temples, churches, and sacred shrines created by human hands. Yet, God remains beyond his reach. Only after an endless journey does he realize a beautiful truth: the God he sought was never far away—He was inside his own heart all along.

What does this have to do with LOVE & U? Perhaps everything.

If our film finds a place in your heart and becomes a people's movie, it can offer something more precious than mere entertainment—a simple lesson about life and love.

When we observe successful people, we notice they usually have a dream or destination. They travel toward it with determination, making sacrifices and overcoming endless obstacles. Consequently, we assume that the grander the dream, the farther we must go to find it.

But what if we are wrong? What if life’s greatest treasures do not wait at the end of a distant horizon? What if the key we seek is already lying quietly beside us?

We often cross oceans searching for a pearl while ignoring the diamond resting at our feet. We chase a distant firefly’s fleeting glow, mistaking it for a gem, while the true jewel remains right beside us.

There are so many movies that never get talked about that are amazing yet movies that are shitty are the ones that get talked about the most

What caused The Double (1996) to collapse?

I was looking up and reading up on movie trivia and this got my eye. Apparently, John Travolta signed up to star in an adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s The Double that was to be directed by Roman Polanski and would receive 17 Million Dollars. It would’ve also star Isabelle Adjani, John Goodman, and Jean Reno. 

Apparently, they were so close to filming that they were in rehearsals, but it seems just before filming, John Travolta walked off set and quit the film. I’ve been reading up on this and they really don’t specify as to what happened, other than creative disputes. After Travolta quit, they tried to replace him with Steve Martin, but then Adjani quit the film as she would only work with Travolta and essentially the project died and many lawsuits were filed because of the collapse of the film from the Production companies and Travolta as well filing lawsuits against each other.

That is the basic understanding, but I wonder if anyone else has more information as to why This project collapsed and why would John Travolta just walk off and quit the film and forgo 17 Million Dollars.

What’s the general consensus for the theory of Cliff being Beatrix’s father? The age difference makes sense, and if you’ve read the Once Upon a Time In Hollywood novel, you’ll know Cliff loves the ladies… and they love him, lol. So him having more than one child he didn’t know about wouldn’t surprise me.

Anyway, I’ve watched both volumes of Kill Bill and Once Upon a time a mind bending number of times. And there are so many small… maybe unrelated details.

The blue Karmen Ghia.
The blonde hair and blue eyes.
The gold sunglasses with the ombré brown lenses… Cliff wears them all the time. Kiddo wears them to the brothel.
The fact that Cliff is probably the coolest dude ever and the same can be said for Beatrix.

And maybe most importantly of all. If Cliff Booth had an estranged daughter he knew nothing about. Isn’t Beatrix exactly the kind of daughter Cliff would produce… and if you asked me to imagine who Beatrix’s father is… I would only be able to say Cliff. Hands down.

As a writer/ director myself I’m the first to admit sometimes we give writers too much credit and it’s easy for an audience add 2+2 and end up with 5… is that what I’m doing, or is it justified?

I am Looking for for a comedy, I remember seeing a promo for this comedy a couple years ago. I never heard of it or saw it again. Apparently no major streaming site picked it up. I can't find any reviews for the film. It looks pretty funny from the Trailer? Anybody seen it? $3.99 on youtube.

what’s the best drunk acting you’ve ever seen in a movie or tv show? for me, it’s Charlie Day as Charlie Kelly in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. the way he plays drunk is genuinely fucking incredible. the voice, the movements, the facial expressions, the way he talks—it’s so ridiculously convincing and hilarious. every time i watch him, i’m just thinking, “how does this man not have an Oscar for this?” 😭

So to provide a quick bit of backstory is that I was doing an observation on how certain action based actors went from respectable to becoming targets of ridicule as I found the subject interesting due to how a certain Steven lost respect from his audiences in the mid 90s.

Like what recently stuck out to me was Steven Seagal as I find his "downfall" fascinating in ways that are hard to explain as I suppose it's because he had a decent if limited amount of success back in the early 90s as something about his short lived legacy changed during his career in the mid 90s since to put it simply, there was a turning point in his legacy that turned him into the butt of jokes.

Basically what I am trying to say is that I was wondering what other famous movie stars went through a similar phase where they had a respectable legacy at first, but then a series of flops causes their image to take a plunge as their career suddenly sinks after said flops happen since I wanted to see what other movie actors had a major decline besides the aforementioned Steven Seagal.

• I have noticed something, that I think might be weird, but I am not sure if it is just me. Might be.
• I have been watching a lot of movies lately. Mostly hollywood movies or european movies. And I notice other people in the cinema hall get emotional, in sad scenes, eg. something sad happens to a mother and/or her child. But it does not effect me.
• However when I watch movies with characters from the country my parents come from or movies from that country, I get much more emotional easier. I notice that this happens in "worse" movies as well.
• I feel like this might not just be the acting and story, it might be because I am psychologically more inclined to get emotional for people that I relate to. Like that mother could be my mother or that child could be or that is "my people" so to speak.
• I feel like cultural familiarity and percieved group similarity are affecting my emotional processing.

• Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Honestly I’ll cheat and I’ll say the back to the future franchise instead just one of the movies. Genuinely my favourite franchise and I grew up watching those movies, the story is so insane and I love how one leads into another and sometimes overlaps, the visuals are so beautiful and it’s a peak childhood movies all around to be honest.

I recently came across a post asking about the “scariest movie” and as a fan of the horror genre, immediately jumped into the comments to see people’s takes

I was expecting answers like The Conjuring or Hereditary, frankly the scariest films I’ve seen, but I was a bit surprised to see most of the answers being The Exorcist

Now, I have seen The Exorcist, and definitely wasn’t scared of the film whatsoever

This got me thinking about cinema and time

On one hand, yes, The Exorcist was the scariest film, when it was released, but it’s been more than 50 years now, the film hasn’t aged well at all, you could ask someone just getting into cinema to watch The Exorcist and they would be just as underwhelmed as I was when I saw a year ago

But on the other hand, since it hadn’t aged well, why are we still hanging on to the past, why aren’t we looking at the modern horror, directors like Jordan Peele, Philppou brothers, and Ari Aster bringing horror for the current audiences? Don’t they deserved their flowers too?

Now I get that I wasn’t there when The Exorcist, in fact my dad wasn’t even alive for it, but it seems a bit weird that people will choose to hang onto nostalgia and keep giving a film praise 50+ years later while there’s directors working hard to give the modern audience horror that are simply being overlooked just because they are in the modern era

I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this, I can kind of see both sides but interested in more

So I'm trying to find more movies when very different actors are in the same movie. And together as in not in a relationship. I mean if they happen to me in a relationship in the movie fine.

But yesterday I saw a movie with Tom Hanks, Stanley Tucci, and Paul Newnan in. Or True Lies with Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Or (my favorite) Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone.

Sexy Beast gets the attention it deserves while Layer Cake doesn't get enough attention, I love both movies but I'm not sure which one does better.

Layer Cake I would say is more original than Sexy Beast considering there aren't many British films about drug businesses and features very unique characters such as XXXX deciding to remain totally anonymous to evade being caught by the police because he believes having an alias makes you easier to track which actually makes sense, he decides to remain unknown instead of having an alias like Tony Montana or Walter White and also decides to be more honest about the criminal underworld by having XXXX killed at the end rather than the Hollywood "drift into the sunrise" ending.

Sexy Beast on the other hand has very good tension and more raw and human characters by utilizing a slowburn tension and Gal's dream sequences to emphasise the character's anxieties and frustrations which is actually well done and creative, Layer Cake also utilises realistic and raw characters rather than campy Hollywood characters like in Guy Ritchie's movies but they don't emphasise the character's emotions as much as Sexy Beast does but I don't think it's that much bad of a problem but Sexy Beast does do it better.

I like both films, I don't know which one I prefer after this debate but I think Layer Cake is highly underrated and doesn't get talked about enough.

I think that devil wears Prada is better as than book , in book Lily and Christian have bigger role than Nigel and Emily and Nigel and Emily are more interesting than Lily and Christian . Do you know any more examples where movie is better than book?
