Hi all,
I have booked a 5 night fiji package from Melbourne. Although we reside in Melbourne we dont have Aussie passport and were required to apply for tourist visa. Our arrival is on September 23. Its been 2 weeks we have not received our visa. Anyone here can provide timeline for visa processing? Also immi hib portal is very weird and requirements are weird too. Such as leave approval letter and partner consent. Although one of my companion is unemployed and sponsored by her partner, the hub still required leave approval letter without which application couldn’t be submitted.

Sharing our experience with getting our FJD 1,000 bond refunded from Budget Car Rental Savusavu, in case anyone else is having the same problem.

First, we really enjoyed our time in Savusavu. It was one of our favourite parts of the trip. We had a great Airbnb stay and our Airbnb host was extremely kind and helpful. So this post is specifically about our experience with the car rental bond, not Savusavu itself.

When we returned to New Zealand, about two weeks after returning the rental car, we realised that our FJD 1,000 bond still had not been refunded. At first, we did not realise that getting the bond back could become an issue.

Fortunately, we found the Savusavu branch owner's phone number through Google Maps. We called and then added him on WhatsApp, which gave us a direct way to follow up. He apologised, explained that there had been a technical issue, and promised that the bond would be returned by Friday, about three weeks after the car had been returned.

Friday came and there was still no refund. We followed up again, but received no response for several days despite sending several messages.

At that point, we realised that the delay did not seem normal, so we started looking more carefully at online reviews.

We checked Google reviews for Budget Car Rental Savusavu, where we rented the car, as well as reviews for Budget in Nadi. We found many many complaints from other customers about delays or difficulties getting their rental bonds returned. Some of those reviews were particularly helpful because people explained what they had done to resolve the problem.

We went through many of the reviews and decided to escalate the issue.

These are the steps we took:

1. We sent a clear message directly to the Savusavu Budget owner stating that the FJD 1,000 bond needed to be refunded that day. We made it clear that if no action was taken, we would formally escalate the matter, including contacting the Savusavu Police.
2. We started contacting official channels, including the Consumer Council of Fiji and the Fiji Police call centre.
3. We prepared to lodge a formal complaint with Budget customer service so that the issue would also be raised with the wider Budget organisation.
4. We were also prepared to contact our credit card provider and dispute the transaction if the bond continued not to be returned.

After we made it clear that we were formally escalating the issue, we finally received the full FJD 1,000 bond back (in a day).

For anyone dealing with the same situation, I would suggest:

• Keep your rental agreement, bond receipt and credit card/payment records.

• Keep screenshots of all WhatsApp messages, texts and other communication.

• Follow up in writing, rather than relying only on phone calls, so that you have a record of what was promised.

• Check recent Google reviews for the rental branch. Other customers' experiences can help you understand whether your delay is unusual and what escalation options have worked.

• If you are repeatedly being told that the refund is coming but nothing actually happens, clearly explain what formal actions you will take, and then start taking those actions.

• Consider contacting the Consumer Council of Fiji.

• Contact your credit card provider and ask whether the bond was processed as a charge or a pre-authorisation, and whether you can dispute it if it has not been returned.

The main lesson from our experience is not to keep waiting indefinitely just because you are told that the refund is being processed. We initially assumed the delay was simply a technical problem. It was only after several weeks, repeated follow-ups and then formal escalation that our bond was finally returned.

We received the full FJD 1,000 back today.

I am sharing this because some of the Google reviews from previous customers were extremely helpful to us. Hopefully, our experience can similarly help someone else who is trying to get their bond back.

Despite this issue, we genuinely enjoyed Savusavu and would happily visit again.

So I've been researching what it would take to move to Fiji. I have a remote job which can only be performed by an Australian Citizen. Can I legally work that job while living in Fiji? I know I can't work in Fiji and take up a job that a Fijian can perform.

Any pointers on where to find out more information about this.

Any suggestions for what to get a Father in Fiji as a gift for Father's Day, when family (and funds) are all overseas? We could do a Tappoo or Jack's online voucher as these can be purchased with a credit card, but we've done these before so looking for something new. Vinaka!

I’m a third-year MBBS student in Fiji and I’m seriously considering practising medicine overseas in the future. I’d love to hear from anyone who has sat for (or knows someone who has sat for) the AMC exams (Australia), NZREX (New Zealand), or USMLE (United States).

I’m particularly interested in:

• How challenging each exam is compared to the others
• The overall costs involved (exam fees, prep materials, courses, etc.)
• The time commitment needed for preparation while still in medical school
• Which pathway might be more practical or worthwhile in the long run as someone from Fiji

A few specific questions I’d love advice on:

• Should these exams be attempted during MBBS or after graduation?
• What study resources or prep courses were most effective for you?
• How long did you prepare before attempting the exam?

Traveling to Fiji in November 2026. Arrive October 29, 2026; depart November 05. We arrive early in the morning on the October 29 and depart 10:45 on November 05.

We're not looking to be excessively busy. Mostly looking to snorkel, some hiking perhaps. Happy to sit around and be warm (we're from Canada) on the beach as well. Snorkeling from beach is dandy but we're ok with paying to get onto a vessel for a day as well.

Looking for information on where to stay/what to do/what islands to travel to and how to get there. We'd like to stay in the range of $300-400/night or less. All inclusive is fine, but not required.

From our perspective we'd probably like a few days on Viti Levu but not absolutely necessary if recommendations are otherwise. Seeing recommendations for Yasawa Islands or Vanua Levu (Savausavu) but not locked in on either at this point.

Hi all! I have booked a trip to Fiji over New Years but long story short I have had some very frustrating issues come up and two passengers have cancelled on me. Basically I am out of pocket almost $3k and while I have considered just cancelling the booking I am also thinking I may just go by myself?

The booking is for the Pearl Resort so wondering what sort of activities or things to do around there or at the resort and if it is safe for a young female to go alone? And also if there is any celebration happening for New Years?

So I have officially booked my flight to Fiji next year. I fly in August 8, 2027 and leave August 16, 2027. My plan is to spend a few nights in Fiji and then a few nights in Tuvalu.

At the moment, I have very little planned aside from basic parameters (i.e. flight in and out). Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Help with project that can benefit Fijian farms

Hi guys im a student from Melbourne Australia and building a project that can help farmers in Fiji. I'm making a robot that can do weeding and pull out weeds which will boost the growth of crops in farms. I am going to be visiting the motherland with my family in a few months. I was born in Fiji but live in the U.S. currently!

I haven’t been back home in a significant amount of time and will be visiting with family soon. We have lots of family all over on both of the main islands, so we’ll be kind of everywhere, I think.

I am a chef professionally in the U.S. and love cooking seafood specifically. A part of my mission is definitely to try lots of seafood and hopefully try and figure out some “O.G” Fiji restaurants and foods. I’ve tried a lot of the classics, Kokonda, Lovo, Vakalolo, rourou, Palusami, fried Nathli (Natheli?) Palusami is a my absolute f*****g favorite. Coconut milk is my favorite.

I’d love to hear where you think I could try the best versions of these foods and also literally anything else you think I could enjoy with my family in the few weeks we are there.

Does anyone have recent experience with how long it takes to get a business visa approved for Fiji? I applied for one 2 days ago and my trip is coming up on very short notice (have to fly there in about 7 days from today). I’ve provided them with all necessary documentation - is it realistic to hope that it will be approved on time? I’ve read some threads of long waiting times for tourist visas, so I’m just wondering whether it’s the same for business visas too?

For background info - I have to apply for a visa to enter the country because I don’t have visa free access with my passport

I have heard the bag check lines can exceed 2hrs on wensdays at around 6pm. Can anyone confirm for Sunday's? Around 6-7pm .

Will Fiji ever get another network service provider apart from Digicel and Vodafone. I feel as if they know they don’t real have any competition in Fiji so they don’t necessarily try to improve their network. I know we have starlink for fast internet but my concern is mobile data, especially when it’s usually stuck in 3G or no network in half the places in Fiji (even in semi urban areas) or places that are even close to the towers. They keep increasing the prices of their plan but their speeds keep decreasing. They remind of politicians who overpromise and underdeliver, catering to only the rich and forgetting the middle class/ poor people of Fiji. Me and a few friends of mine have the same issue in different areas in Fiji so just wondering if its us or the majority of the population fee the same?

Also, when you message or email them with an issue, now they just don’t even look at it, they know the issues but refuse to solve any of it.

While cleaning under the DJ desk at the club, I found several vapes lying on the floor. I do not use or take vapes, so I had no intention of keeping them for myself. At first, I considered giving them away for free or should I give it to a responsible adult🙃

Was taking a taxi home and lots of people were walking around. The Taxi was a Toyota Probox and the boot was opened with the bootlid sat high.

I finished loading the car and as I shut the bootlid, a young male walked in front of me and ducked, the bootlid nearly hitting his head.

He then looked at me like its my fault for shutting the boot.
