I'm an FSAE grad. I really miss the FSAE challenges, so I'd like to start a project on my own. I only had the chance to work with an electric FSAE car, but I've recently gotten interested in motorcycles, so I thought it would be nice to design a whole FSAE-style motorcycle from scratch in my free time.

I've been looking for an engine that would be a good fit for such a small bike, and something I could potentially reuse for a buggy later on. I've got my eye on the Yamaha CP2 engine, which I understand some FSAE teams use to power their cars. I was wondering if someone could help me with some info about the engine, such as:

• The location of the frame mounting points
• A bit about the ECU tuning infrastructure — is a stock ECU used, or does it get swapped? If not stock, what would I need to buy to tune the engine properly? I haven't been able to find much beyond some fairly sketchy-sounding ECU flashing options.

I'm really shocked , this is exactly the same as Rennstall Esslingen's livery.

When considering the overall shape, I'm wondering which approach would be more appropriate:

1. Come up with several 3D concepts first, then optimize the corresponding 2D profiles for each concept.
2. Optimize the 2D profile first, then extend it into 3D and optimize the overall shape accordingly.

Which approach would you recommend, and why?

I’m obviously going to run 2D RANS for screening and then 3D CFD. What I’m unsure about is the order in which I should decide on the overall design concept.

Hi everyone,
we had a pretty frustrating experience with one of our AP Racing CP4226 brake calipers at FS France this season and wanted to ask whether other teams have experienced something similar.
After successfully completing Endurance, we were disqualified because brake fluid was found on one of our brake discs (without the DQ, we would have finished second overall).

The brake line fitting and the entire area around the connection were completely dry. The leakage appeared to come from the caliper itself.
What makes this particularly disappointing is that the mechanical brakes had barely been used. We drove mostly using regenerative braking. The mechanical brake was mainly used during the Brake Test and in the first few Endurance laps (3 events + 5-6 test endus) when regeneration was limited because the accumulator was still fully charged.
Finishing Endurance and then losing the result because of a leaking caliper was obviously very frustrating—especially since this was a purchased motorsport component that we expected to be reliable.

We would therefore be interested in hearing about other teams’ experiences:

• Have you experienced leakage or other reliability issues?

• Did AP Racing or your supplier offer any explanation or support?

• Are you using any suitable alternatives?

Unfortunately, there do not seem to be many comparable calipers on the market that fit radially inside a Formula Student wheel for awd packaging, unless you develop and manufacture your own.

Let me get straight to the question. i need to understand suspension system particularly suspension used in fsae . i don't know where to start . if u have any suggestion regarding this , please do help me . Your help will be appreciated . i need resources to start with.

Does anyone know of companies that do chassis manufacturing (tube kit + welding) that aren't VR3? VR3 just sent an email that they can't weld FSAE chassis after October 31st this year, and that probably doesn't work w/ our team's timeline.

We're obviously starting to consider in house welding but wanted to see if any companies exist that can do the welding for us as an alternative before we pivot to welding in house.

I'm designing a battery for which I am looking for few wire bonding techniques, but the thing is the peak discharge of my pack is quite high like approx 1400 A and each cell will effectively deliver 60A so is wire bonding feasible for this and if yes which material I should look for.....

It states m10x1mm thread and in other sources it mentions 45 degree cone tip.

Because my brake lines use m12x1mm I have a T-connector

The question is, I'm not sure that the adapter and sensor connections will be tight and right for this application.

Does anyone have an endurance layout from the Michigan comp for Assetto Corsa? Our team is looking to run lap time simulations/driving training, and none of us know how to use blender correctly.

Our team is currently working on our powertrain packaging and we are planning to use a Garrett GT1544 turbocharger.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a reliable 3D model on GrabCAD, and the old WWU Shared CAD library link seems to be permanently down.

Does any team happen to have a .STEP, .IGES, or even a simplified Dummy CAD / Space Claim model of the GT1544 that they would be willing to share? We just need it to check clearances against our chassis tubes, suspension nodes, and the wastegate actuator envelope.

If anyone can help us out, we’d appreciate it a lot!

As a first year team we are a bit confuse what to do and what not to need a mentor who can help us we are from Indian Institute of petroleum and energy

Just found out something pretty frustrating about this year's Formula Student Poland event, and wanted to see if other teams feel the same way.

Apparently someone (still unidentified) took a "Uwaga, mokro" (wet floor warning) sign from the venue. Instead of trying to actually find the person responsible, the organizers have decided the "solution" is to charge every single team a €300 deposit as a consequence — and yes, every team registered for the event has received this same notice.

If you do the math, with the number of teams competing, that adds up to roughly €9000 collected by FSP — over a plastic warning sign that probably costs a few euros to replace.

A few things about this that don't sit right with me:

-Collective punishment One unknown person did something, and now dozens of teams (who had nothing to do with it) are being forced to pay.
-Wildly disproportionate. €300 x every team for a missing sign is not a "deposit," it's a windfall. Even accounting for the sign itself plus some admin cost, we're talking a few euros, not thousands.
-No transparency. No clear explanation of how this deposit gets refunded, under what conditions it won't be, or where the extra money (beyond the actual cost of the sign) even goes.
-Precedent. If this is how "someone did something wrong and we don't know who" gets handled, what stops organizers from doing this again next time something minor goes missing?

I get that events need rules and consequences, but this feels like using a minor incident as an excuse to collect a large amount of money from teams that already run on tight budgets (most of us fund this ourselves or through sponsors).

Since every team got hit with this, I'm curious:

1. Has anyone gotten more context on why the number is €300 per team specifically?
2. Has anyone pushed back on this with the organizers, or is everyone just paying it?
3. Is there any actual mechanism for getting the deposit back, or is it just... gone?

Would love to hear if I'm missing something here, but on the surface this looks like a cash grab dressed up as a "safety deposit."

I recently joined an FSAE team in July and am now part of the design team. I am a first year mechanical engineering student and prior to being a part of the team, I had never used OnShape and any other CAD software. I have been trying to learn how to use OnShape as well as do some research on various suspension designs but am unable to find out what kind of a project I should do to gain skills (I have done almost the entire OnShape Learning). Are there any beginner friendly suspension project ideas for modeling using OnShape which will help me learn skills that can be applied in FSAE suspension designs like suspension components such as uprights, sway bar, or a rocker(I have a rocker designed if someone needs to see it I can add it) and assembling an assembly. Currently what I have done is A-arms and a rocker. My team is looking towards going to cylindrical camber blocks, if anyone has any resources for that it'd be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to any resources, project ideas, or advice!

Hi, I have a question about second year chassis. Is the chassis invalid for another year since when it pass the mechanical inspections or all the technical inspection? Cause we will not able to run this year but we want at least to conduct the tech inspection in order to know if the car is fine.
Furthermore, for a spaceframe chassis, who decides if a change to chassis is substantial or not?
