I watched a story about a guy who made his own floating island.
Everyday he collected empty bottles and tied them together. Think 2 liters filled with air. He used netting and rope to fix them together. Then he took buckets of dirt to build up the ground. Eventually he built a house on his DIY island.

Yeah that part is really the worst thing about it. Could have gone with so many more ecologically sound options. Would otherwise be a funny story.

I am curious to know what some of these materials are if you have the time.
I am looking for such materials for a future project.
Plastics are hard to beat for performance, despite the slow disintegration.
Perhaps aluminum cans could have worked.Fiberglass is a popular material for small to medium sized craft.
In a marine environment, almost any material would be covered in barnacles, eventually.
I’m curious to know if the barnacle layer would prevent microplastics entering the environment or not.2

After the fall of the Dutch East Indies in 1942, the small minesweeper HNLMS Abraham Crijnssen needed to travel 1,000 miles to safety in Australia.The crew covered the deck and superstructure with tree branches, netting, and tropical plants, and they painted the exposed hull to look like rocky cliffs and shorelines.The ship anchored near real islands during the day and only moved at night, successfully reaching Australia without being detected.

I'm very curious, how does it form like that in the first place? My theory is that floating debris gathered together, became note substantial with accumulation, and over time was able to have enough nutrition and size to support a patch of forest. Might be wrong tho

My guess is it formed on land but eventually due to erosion and whatever it had so much water under it that it broke off from the main land
Kind of how when there is a massive iceberg it will break off and float away

blames inaction on AI, doesn't mention erosion once, claims it's not significant enough to investigate further, "others could ..", has trees on it that are at least 5 years old so consists of a significant patch should have been recorded anywhere and is now missing - proves his position is obsolete or was simply the wrong random person to ask.

There is literally no way that is possible. That amount of growth takes a long fucking time. Stable ground. Which apparently is floating around a lake? That can support a small town in weight. K.

I share your view. My non-scientific assessment is this was a surface patch of forest which washed into the reservoir intact following a landslide.
