[Project] Self-taught beginner here: Just a basic, rough C++ demo of a 3D Inverse Kinematics solver. Looking for gentle feedback! πŸ˜…

Hi everyone, I'm a self-taught female engineer from Vietnam, currently exploring Hardware IP Cores for Edge Robotics.

As my very first step, I wrote a basic C++ algorithmic model for a 3-DOF robot arm's Inverse Kinematics.Β Please note: This is just a rough, early-stage demo!Β I know the C++ structure might still be messy, but I wanted to get the math logic right first.

To make it hardware-friendly (preparing for future HLS), I used theΒ Planar Projection (Decoupling) method:

  1. UsingΒ atan2Β to rotate the base (yaw).
  2. Collapsing the space into a 2D triangle to solve shoulder/elbow angles using theΒ Law of Cosines.

Here is my GitHub repo:Β https://github.com/nguyenkhanhvy3131-tech/AuraLogic-IK-Hardware-Model

Since I am learning completely on my own, I would love some gentle feedback. Did I miss any critical edge cases in my math? Any tips for a beginner on how to optimize this further?

Thank you so much for your time and kindness!

I created a CS roadmap from fundamentals to system design and need feedback

I’ve been researching how to build a strong foundation for a software engineering career in India and created the attached roadmap.

My current plan is:

CS fundamentals
β†’ Java
β†’ Backend development
β†’ SQL/RDBMS
β†’ Data engineering
β†’ Cloud/DevOps
β†’ Distributed systems
β†’ System design

I’m particularly unsure about the middle of the roadmap.

For example, should I learn Data Engineering, Cloud/DevOps and Distributed Systems before specializing in Backend/SDE, or would it be better to focus on backend development first and learn the other areas later?

I’m trying to avoid the common problem of learning many technologies superficially.

For developers who have worked in the industry, how would you restructure this path?

I’ve attached my roadmap for context. I’d especially appreciate feedback on what I should postpone, remove, or study more deeply.

Practical Guidance for computer Engineering student

Hey! Everybody currently in my 2nd year of computer Engineering tier 3 college who wants 75 percent but don't know how to teach. So I am on my own I have learned c language on my own I am pretty good at it I am thinking about dsa in cpp but before cpp I am doing oop in cpp but I am also interested in app development to earn money also wanted to crack gsoc in 2027 also interested in cybersecurity I am also interested in core computer Engineering don't know how to proceed for all of this things but one thing is for sure wanted to create something before 2027 starts and earn money or atleast create something outstanding and also definitely want to crack gsoc. Please guide me how to move further.

[Project] Need help fixing logic flow / breadboard circuit for Traffic & Pedestrian Light System (Tinkercad)

Context: Need help fixing logic flow / breadboard circuit for Traffic & Pedestrian Light System (Tinkercad)

Hi everyone, I'm working on a traffic light and pedestrian light simulation project in Tinkercad (using 555 timers, counter ICs, and logic gates like 74HC4017, 74HC32, 74HC08, 74HC86, etc.) and I've run into an issue getting the pedestrian button trigger to work correctly.

The Problem:
The section highlighted in the white circle is for the pedestrian lights, but when I press the push buttons, the circuit doesn't react.

Expected Behavior / Logic Flow

Trigger Condition:

Pressing any of the 4 push buttons should trigger a state change across all LEDs in the system.

Traffic Lights (Upper Module β€” N, S, E, W):

When a push button is pressed, the active traffic lights should first transition to Yellow, and then turn Red.

Pedestrian Lights (Circled Module):

Default State: Pedestrian lights should stay Red ("Don't Walk").

Triggered State: When a push button is pressed, the pedestrian light should switch to Green ("Walk") for 10 seconds.

Reset State:

After the 10-second timer elapses, the system should automatically revert to its normal traffic light sequence.

Are these two streams interesting for someone who enjoys JEE PCM. I would appreciate if you send papers for both branches so I can decide whether my interest lies here or not.

[Discussion] Would a game where students build and program their own CPU be useful for learning computer engineering

I'm developing an educational game where players gradually build their own computer from scratch.

The goal is to teach computer architecture from first principles. Players would work their way through concepts such as digital logic, registers, ALUs, memory, instruction execution and CPU design.

Eventually, the player would have a functioning custom computer and would be able to program it themselves using the instruction set they created.

The player could then write and run simple programs such as Fibonacci sequences, prime number calculations and other programming challenges.

This idea comes from my own experience. I wanted to understand computers beyond software and eventually built and programmed a simple CPU using breadboards.

I'm now trying to turn that learning process into a game that could potentially introduce students to computer architecture in a more interactive way. I am targeting primarily the students of class 6-10, and anyone else who is interested in learning about computers.

I'd love feedback from this community:

What concepts would absolutely need to be included for this to be technically meaningful, and what concepts could be simplified without losing the educational value?

[School] Hobby projects

Hi! I'm currently an ungraduate CS student, and would like to pursue CE after this. I'm currently taking OS classes and find it very interesting. At home I've already done stuff with Arduino, but feel like this might not always translate into a real world environment. I was wondering what kind of beginner projects are common to work on for someone who is interested in the field? FPGA boards for example, any recommendation?

Would you recommend a Master on Embedded systems with a flavour of A.I. ?

What do you think about something like Embedded systems+A.I. ?

Is it valuable, in your opinion?

What are Career Fair Problems

Hi, I want to build a software that can actively solve a problem the recruiters face at a career fair. The plan is to give a live demo of that software to the recruiter to hopefully impress them.

But that issue is I have no idea what kind of problems a recruiters faces in a fair and even more terrifying is the fact that whether they face problems that can be solved by tech or not.

So, for the recruiters who have been to career fairs, what problems do you actually face?

Asking for basics of CE tips

I’ve gotten into CE recently haha. Could anyone give me tips and advice since I want to have it as a possible future career, what basic practices can I do for a good start off?

If possible, PLEASE give links for free good start offs thank you :)

Not a school/job question

In detail, I’m mainly looking for something I can REALLY begin with. I’m pretty much lost at the moment but Iβ€˜m ambitious and quite fascinated about CE. I’d love tips from mainly professionals and/or people who are actively learning CE.
I know most of maths β€” though, theres never an end and would be happy to learn even more about it. Always up for a challenge

Links, tips, advice, etc,, ANYTHING will help

PS; I’m not an AI user

[Career] I am in 4th year and need serious career advice from fellow developer!

Hello everyone,

I’m Shibham Bangwal, currently pursuing B.Tech from a third-tier government college with no real on-campus placement opportunities. Due to the grading system, my CGPA will likely be around 7, as hardly anyone in our batch has an overall 8+.

In my third year, I got deeply into AI/ML and spent significant time learning it. As a result, I fell behind on DSA and have basic software development experience. I also feel that most AI/ML roles require prior experience, making it difficult for freshers.

Now I’m quite anxious and confused about where I stand and what path to pursue. I’ve considered GATE and even government jobs, but I’m unsure if either is the right choice.

If anyone has been in a similar situation or has experience in this field, I’d really appreciate some honest guidance on what I should focus on and how to move forward.

Thank you.

Masters and BS in computer engineering but not one internship. People in similar situations, how long did it take you to land a job after graduating. (USA specifically)

[Discussion] Hesitant between Computer Engineering and Electrical engineering. Please help.

I feel like software engineering skills can be gained online without the need of a degree.

Why should I study a major that has software when I can learn it online and be hired without the need of a degree in software engineering?

Sooo

Should I major in electrical engineering as it is broader and covers everything related to hardware and embedded systems? I think it covers everything electrical in Computer Engineering degree and it is broader.

Bachelor in electrical engineering will give me the chance of studying Computer engineering without the need of completing a lot of prerequisites.

Hello all! I just created my first YouTube video of what will hopefully be a fully-fledged CS education channel. I'm currently a PhD student studying CE and have picked this up as a side/passion project. The content will likely focus on hardware/systems content, but hopefully there is room for some variety. Would love any feedback to make future videos better!

[Software] Advice needed

I’m currently working as an SDE at a service-based company and have 1+ year of experience. I’m applying for jobs for the past month, but I haven’t received a single interview call. I update my resume every morning and apply through Naukri, LinkedIn, and Foundit, but still haven’t received any calls.

Because of this, I’m considering pursuing a master’s degree related to electrical engineering or hardware, as I believe these fields may have less competition and could be less affected by AI-driven restructuring.

Since I have a bachelor’s degree in CSE, what hardware-related fields would be suitable for me to pursue a master’s degree in?

Don't troll me guys, plz give advice or suggestions on what to do next

CS vs CE better job prospects?

Hi, I’ve always been passionate about CS, but I keep seeing that CS graduates currently have a relatively high unemployment rate (around 6–7% for recent grads).

Would CE be a better choice in terms of employment prospects? Does having both hardware and software knowledge give CE grads more opportunities?

For those in CE, how has your experience with finding internships/jobs been?
