Chess.com will host the first debate of the 2026 FIDE presidential election on September 9, bringing together all three candidates—Jan Henric Buettner, Timur Turlov, and Wadim Rosenstein—to discuss their visions for the future of international chess.

The live debate, moderated by GM Maurice Ashley, will give the chess community its first opportunity in this election campaign to hear all three presidential candidates. The debate will be streamed live on Chess.com, with all three candidates and Ashley joining remotely.

Questions will come from Ashley, who will also select some from the Chess.com community. The candidates will not receive the questions in advance, and the format has been designed to ensure equal speaking time and equal treatment throughout.

You can submit your own questions in the comments below! Read more about the debate.

Chess Improvement I got tired of people saying that if my lichess elo is 2100 then it means that I am 1600 on chess.com, so I made it on chess.com as well.

For now I have no problems climbing to 2100, and it doesn't feel different from lichess

I was so happy my opponent blundered and that I didn’t resign. He probably thought he had blundered too… until I reviewed the game and realized I was the one who blundered lmao

LOL LMAO I LOVE STALEMATES

So I accidentally didn't ss but lmao here's my story: I was just playing a quick game of rapid. And I get myself into a really bad position, and my opponent is trolling me by like trash talking in chat. This is the position on move 72. Black has 00:21 left, I have 2:42. I am rated slightly higher than them.

So black is just trolling by trash talking and proceeds to miss mate in 1 like 10 times. Well, not really missing it tbh, probably just trolling and trying to mate me when they have like 1 second left.

They asked me to resign, and I said no, and then on move 72, proceeded to stalemate me.

long story short: players can be egotistical and stupid at any level in chess. but i'm happy because I am so close to 2100 and if I had lost I would've been set back 😭

Chess Improvement At what point is studying any chess material required?

Upvotes

I’ve been on a climb recently and was wondering at what point studying material is necessary, I’m ~1400-1450 and haven’t tried anything too extensive. I analyse my games, win or lose and take small improvements away from it but apart from that I’ve been improving just off of experience. At what elo range does natural improvement “fall off”.

Also if any recommendations on good books/ courses and why that would be much appreciated !

How is it a draw when I won? And it’s not like it was going to be a draw if not for timeout, it was M2.

LOL I'll add to the plethora of posts saying to never resign or abandon. Sometimes your opponent just doesn't take a free queen

Chess Question New UI on chess.com

Why do they keep trying to change stuff that is already visually working. They decided to expand the time clock so there is a lot of negative space next to the timers. Its like the just stretched it out and I dont see a reason why it was necessary. Everything they just added was pretty awful in my opinion even the elo gain seems off.

Chess Question Tyler1 cow opening

I’ve heard a lot of criticisms and jokes whenever the cow opening is mentioned in chess conversations but this opening is actually amazing. I’ve been using since 700 and it’s gotten me over to over 1400 with no problem. Does anybody else play other cow opening I’m wondering if there are obstacles to using it or if someone else has also tried playing this opening?

Days ago was 1931. I said Queen takes knight, he takes back with the queen, i go d1 (make a new queen) and of course my mind slipped he doesn’t have to take the new queen and can take my light square bishop first with check.

I lost like 4 games today up a minor piece and pawn / or just a minor piece.

And it’s my birthday… Just feel terrible after that one.
