Looking for a handful of volunteers to test RangeLeagues, a project I've been working on for the last few months! Details inside.

Hey folks! Some of you have used the zeroing target generator I posted here before. I've spent the last couple months turning it into something bigger: a casual competition platform, and I'd love a few of you to help me test it.

Quick rundown of what's new:

- Rebrand: ShooterOS → RangeLeagues, full redesign.

- Target generator improvements: added a guided setup so getting your rifle (or pistol) shooting straight is less intimidating for first-timers, plus a new experimental Scope Leveling target.

- Shot Analyzer: Improved the overall marking engine and page, it should work a lot better now and it actually allows you to save your analyzed targets (some cool analysis tools are planned for later on, like performance tracking, etc)

- New thing — Leagues: casual competition, using standardized "smart" targets and app-based scoring. Fully asymmetric, compete on your own time, at your own range, with your own gear. Purely casual and peer reviewed submissions, participants review each others targets before certifying and receiving a score. It's meant to get anyone interested in competitive shooting to get an easier, casual and fun way to compete in shooting sports.

There are two types of leagues, community leagues and private leagues. Private leagues are still a work in progress and will be available at a later date, the short and sweet is that you will be able to host one for you and 4 of your range buddies. Community leagues are free to join and participate in, they are meant to be open and accessible to anyone who wishes to join.

What I'm asking: if you've got a printer, go to the range frequently, and don't mind poking at a beta release, I'd like to spin up an r/CTGuns league and run an event so you all can compete against each other to test if the app is ready for a general rollout for all of us here at r/CTGuns.

Tools are still free and available same as before — this is just layering a league/competition mode on top.

Drop a comment or DM if interested and I will send you a beta invite, happy to answer questions here too. Beta testers will receive some rewards on their accounts for participating in the testing. More details and information soon, wanted to see if there is anyone interested in taking this for a spin first.

For the rest of the community, I would love to hear if you would be interested in joining our own remote casual league, I think it could be a fun way to see how everyone stacks up.

I’m glad the senator is open to making the laws easier to understand (I’m sure to him that just means making the bans more complete).

Hartford Gun Club

Been thinking about joining the club, mostly for the ability to holster fire and be able to shoot rifles while standing, for those who are members how are the pits on the weekends? And how many individuals are allowed at a pit at once? For rifles is standing okay? For the metal targets shooting normal ammo non pen, are they resettable right away or does the range need to go cold in order to reset them? My guess 660$ and your all set? No need to pay any additional range fees? For those who are members and took classes do you need to pay the range fees or is that wavyed since you're a member!

Paging havenrogue! Pistol weight question.

Someone mentioned to me today that they inquired about the new CZ TS3 and were told by a FFL that it exceeds the 50oz weight restriction. Is that still a thing? I thought that went away with PA 13-3?

Fixed Mag Ar past TSA?

So if I want to bring my ar pistol to another state and the tsa requires the magazine to be removed from the gun. How do I do that without breaking ct laws of having constructive possession of a assault weapon or a assault weapon charge…

Carrying question

Can my wife legally carry a gun that's in my name? Or she can only carry guns that are under her name? I thought I read somewhere that when you're married you could... But obviously I just want to make sure.

MP5 fixed mag solution at Arcana Arms

Bottom loading magazine for the MP5 platform. The magazine itself, the part that holds the rounds, stays in the firearm when a maglock is used. The follower module is detached and rounds can be loaded into the magazine from the bottom. Much the same as if you had a fixed mag in an AR15 and removed the baseplate of the magazine/spring/follower and loaded rounds in from the bottom. The difference is that all of those components are contained/organized neatly into a self contained “module”.

Do the new atf changes now allow for personal use home made 3d supressors??

I don't think it does in CT but what about other states?

Is fixed mag worth it?

I have a lot of featureless rifles and SBRs that I like as range toys and home defense and I've always been curious as to why everyone wants to go with fixed mag. They seem like a pain to reload and clear malfunctions so they wouldn't be good for home defense and would probably be frustrating at the range. Are there any benefits to fixed mag rifles besides looking cool with the pistol grip and collapsible stock? Are they worth it as strictly range toys?

Is stebbens still the best option for gunsmithing near Fairfield area

I used Mitch Schultz from the time I moved here back in 2020 because everybody said he was the best and he was. I have not needed anybody since he retired but people said stebbins in new Milford is on the same level as Mitch. I just want to make sure there is nobody else closer before I drive all the way up there.

Able to be refurbished?

Recently had this handed down to me. Any chance of refurbishing it without ruining it? If so, any recommendations on who to visit for this?

Also interested in any info if anyone recognizes this model

Thanks!

ETA: not concerned about value or being able to shoot. While that would be nice, this has family value. I am only asking if you have knowledge of someone in CT who does this work well.

AWB - Certificate processing Timeline?

Hello,

I hate to ask this. A friend of mine has been waiting for several certificates of Possession of Assault Weapons from DESPP since April 27th 2024. This was before the registration deadline.

Yes we know, all gun laws are an infringement but this individual has other contributing factors and so they wanted to avoid risking any criminal offenses.

What are there options? Are certificates still being processed? Are there other people stuck in this limbo? Should they write DESPP and/or contact an attorney? Or should they just wait?

How long is it taking to get your pistol permit these days typically?

Unfortunately I have to get my pistol permit again after it expired. Between buying a house and having a baby it slipped my mind and I’m past the grace period, so I accept I just have to go through the process again.

I live in griswold. Last time I got mine just as Covid was taking off, so there was a huge backlog and it took about 4-5 months. How is it these days now?

Looking to try a 4.25 Platypus

Anyone in the Fairfield or New Haven county with a 4.25 Platypus I could try? I’d supply ammo and lunch.

I’m interested in the Stealth Arms product, but have to try it out.

I was at Sig a couple months ago and rented the P211 GT4, nice firearm, that’s an option, too.

Thanks

AW certs finally received!

Submitted 9 of them electronically 9-20-23. Got emails today. But all of this probably won't matter next year depending on what Supreme Court decides. Hopefully others got approved today. Maybe they did a bulk batch.

Best pcc/bag guns ?

Looking to buy a pcc or arp (not a fan of Ruger pcc’s) and I’m okay with it being fixed until I move. Any recommendations?

Compact safe recommendations?

I have a Fast Box Model 20 and wanted another, but they've been discontinued. I might just get a Model 42 instead but I wanted to check here for recommendations to see if I'm missing something.

Are there any compact safes like the Fast Box Model 20? What do you use for handgun storage?

I built an iPhone app that maps firearm-law references along a driving route — looking for honest feedback

Full disclosure: I’m the developer of CarryRoute.

I built it because ordinary reciprocity maps don’t show everything encountered during an actual drive—county and city boundaries, tribal areas, transit properties, stops, and overnight stays.

You enter two addresses, and CarryRoute:

  • Maps the route using Apple Maps
  • Breaks it into state, county, city, tribal, and special-jurisdiction sections
  • Lets you tap each route section
  • Shows concise research summaries with links to official government sources
  • Accounts for your resident state, permits, age, and selected carry/transport mode
  • Supports offline itineraries and optional jurisdiction alerts

The route colors identify jurisdiction changes only. They do not mean legal/illegal or safe/unsafe. CarryRoute is a research tool—not legal advice—and users should verify the current official text.

I’d genuinely appreciate blunt feedback: What information would you want before crossing a state or local boundary? What would make the route view more useful?

iPhone/iPad: CarryRoute: CCW Navigation

It’s free to download. Optional Pro is $2.99/month or $12.99/year with a 14-day introductory trial.
