What bugs me is he should've done that from the start. Imagine if he went on his little tour on all the talk shows. Wrote a book. Went around the country speaking to teams. Created a foundation or some organization to provide assistance to young men with addiction. He could've really built something out that would keep him busy and has longevity. He could've been halfway to an empire by now and instead he's got....this.

It’s a weird level of feeling. He absolutely needs to accept accountability and should have taken the L at the beginning, and the next best time to do so is right now.
Universities involved should also face accountability for any failings in their part to respond timely to hold him accountable.
And so while I feel he deserves these outcomes, at some level I also gotta feel bad that this kid is clearly getting terrible legal and career advice from folks who don’t have his best interests at heart. That lawyer of his is awful. Imagine having a gambling addiction, $5mln in NIL, and lawyer who will try every single action and avenue to win no matter what the cost (monetarily or career-wise).

For real. Pete Rose got a lifetime ban and can't even get inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, and he never even bet the under on any of his games.
Like, how can you ever trust a guy who literally places a bet saying his team will score fewer points than expected?

Even Pete Rose, one of the greatest hitters of all time, understood his ban. He didn't like it and fought it publically until he died but he understood he did the thing you can't do.
Sorsby hasn't played a significant snap in his career and feels like the system can bend to his knee. Reeks of youthful arrogance and an overly litigious adult influence. The kid did the thing you can't do and I'm sure it sucks to find out the consequences of that but I, in a way, feel sorry for him being jerked around by all these shitty "adults."

If an NFL player bet on an NFL game they were in, I think the NFL would ban them. Even if they only bet moneyline wins, overs, etc they'd still get a ban. This guy bet THE UNDER on himself.
It's insane to me that any team would want him, especially a team with national championship aspirations (or now any professional team who in theory all want to win a championship). Like what's to say in the playoffs at either level, he doesn't get paid off to lose, or bet on himself with a proxy to lose...? He's already shown that he's fine tanking performance to win a money outside of his pay from sports.

He really only has 2 avenues: Take the year off and prep for the NFL draft, working all the PR in the world showing you have recovered and are worth a flyer pick, or seek entry into the UFL. The UFL route would likely negate his ability to play in the NFL for the 2027 season, as the season would conflict with the draft.
Suing the NFL is a fool's errand. They're lawyered to the teeth, have all of their rights cemented in the CBA, and have antitrust protections the NCAA doesn't.

As someone who follows the CFL, I think fans greatly overestimate the interest CFL teams would have on any particular QB and how many players would be interested in playing in Canada.
I saw it with Pavia earlier like he was gonna step into the CFL and light the world on fire. It takes over a year for someone to get used to the new field dimensions and rules. Most of the higher tier QBs in CFB are not gonna have the patience to sit behind starter(s) for maybe 10% of what they'd make in NIL lol.
So, it does not surprise me someone mocked as a first or second round NFL pick would not have kicked tires on the CFL.

His issue wasn't his eligibility but that other schools didn't want to play TT if he was playing. So a D2 team and, more importantly, the conference may have felt that the exposure was worth the stink. Not guaranteed, of course, but a chance of being in a competitive environment where he may have been able to pad his stats would be leagues preferable to his current mess.

His issue was his eligibility. He couldn't transfer with the window closed and no one would take the risk even with the injunction because of his legal issues.

Good. Texas Tech was unwilling to force this kid to live with consequences, which is what everyone was so upset about. Nobody cares if he plays for Tech and gets blasted in the 2nd round of the playoffs. What we all do care about is setting a precedent that you can gamble and get away with it. That is what would have ruined the game.
Kids need to see this dude getting blacklisted to learn that there are very real consequences to breaking that cardinal rule of sports.

Kids also need to see this to understand ALL actions have very real consequences once you’re not “a kid” anymore. This is life. None of us get to pick and choose what rules apply to us, etc. You bet on your own team. Ask Pete Rose (and honestly, he never bet the under on his team so….). Ask any adult. This is how it works and unfortunately, Sorsby lacks the one solution: accountability for his own actions. I hope there are younger people than me who get this take away from all this noise - it’s a lesson everyone needs to learn sooner rather than later.

I'm surprised people defended him. It wasn't just that he bet on games, it was what he bet on (unders). He effectively tried to make money betting on himself doing poorly or losing. Maybe he thought it was some weird hedge on his performance, and honestly I'd be happy knowing my rival's team was QB'd by a guy who took out "performance insurance" if he did bad in a game. It just can't be with gambling, especially with gambling that borders on wire fraud. Like you said, it's the one cardinal rule of being an athlete, you don't bet on games. The second cardinal rule is probably along the lines of "don't commit felonies" although a lot of guys get away with that nowadays.
